LOL, you've had a mare re. Vestergaard. Any questions on his performance today?

But back to the thread, surely Nelson gets a go now instead of Faes?

Nelson seems like an alternative to Vestergaard rather than Faes so nothing is likely to change re his position.

Yeah, I see that but they did play together under Enzo. At least make him part of the squad.

Must be something going on. The thing I was most looking forward to this season was Ben at the heart of the defence. I hate seeing Faes and Vestergaard throw away goals and points game after game but clearly Nelson is not fancied. Genuinely I don’t think we will see him again and he will be off in Jan.

Easy to see why he would not usually replace Jannik, as Jannik’s weakness is normally predictable, I.e.; he is slow, and you can manage around that,  but with Wout, his issues are it is unclear when his failures will emerge, and there ain’t no planning for that

Yes, but wasn’t he also in the training videos ?

There is no real evidence for that though. He's in all the training videos working with the rest of the team as usual and he's not mentioned whenever Cifuentes give updates on fitness and availability. If he is injured then a) it's not bad enough to impact his ability to train and b) he's so far away from the team that the manager doesn't even think it's worth mentioning

I am pretty sure that is just based off his knock that he got away with England and they haven’t updated it even though he has been available

Martí said post-match of Oxford he just didn’t want two centre backs on the bench but he is a big believer he will have an impact in the season…

I've had a mare? I gave you evidence, you have me nothing but the laughing emoji yesterday, still none of these stats and waited until after today to then bring up the reply. Absolutely pathetic lol. I think that's all the validation I needed that I was correct and you were wrong, so thanks I guess

He had a pretty good game today, and? He also dropped one absolute clanger on the edge of his own area in the second half. So my original assertion that he's decent at this level but has made multiple mistakes holds true.

Reckon we will see this CB pairing until the January window, when we may see Faes leave?

Thing is, based on the squad selection so far this season - even if this were to be the case, it seems like Okoli is likelier to slot into the defence if Faes leaves, not Nelson.

Thought CB in a two tend to form partnerships, so we might (hope) to see Okoli yes, but with Nelson as his partner, as an alternate pair.

LOL, I base my comments on evidence. MotM performance yesterday. His style is high risk/high reward - our best football comes from when we play those quick passes to build into midfield. But you do you, let's agree to disagree.

Can I please agree to disagree too?

Thanks

Can anyone confirm that he isn't injured.

Looks fine in the training footage. When asked about Nelson in the post match talk Cifuentes said he didnt want 2 centrebacks on the bench and didnt mention an injury. It's pretty much confirmed he's fit and ready to play but he's just out of favour.

My guess is that we don’t want someone on Vestergaards wages sat on the bench or in the stands. I also wouldn’t want Faes or Okoli guiding Nelson through a game.

When he’s back fit I think Nelson and Souttar would be a great partnership. Harry is excellent at this level and they would compliment each other really well

I agree about Souttar, but I have a feeling he signs for Sheff Utd in January for a depression and panic move after his comeback.

I've seen it alluded to in a few threads but I can't remember it - what did so-called Guy Branston say about Ben Nelson on BSLB?

A load of crap.... About everything

Be an interesting one that.  Wilder will obviously fancy him, but it'll be interesting to see if Utd are willing to spend any kind of wedge on a  player who is only just coming back from injury, as well as considering their position.
