Good sign they have put numbers up for the likes of Pages, Evans and Aluko.

Squad is still to big.

Assuming we’ll see some loan movement o it before the end of the window.

How do they allocate the numbers?

The club give the players total freedom? Or they tell the academy products who are still breaking through that they have to pick a number greater than 20?

Should be 19

Backup attacking mid gets 18

Or at least that is what I do on football manager :ph34r:lol

Noooo backup 9 gets 18. 9+9=18.

Like Klinsmann or Zamorano. Who famously wore 1+8 at Inter when Ronaldo took his no9

So new players

6.

12.

13.

18.

I think the last player that wore 13 for us was Slimani, we don't seem to issue it otherwise it would have been an obvious choice for Begovic

I rather he didn’t have it but it’s not unexpected that Ayew gets the 9 shirt, he wore that number at Palace and wears 9 for his country

Ayew being 9 screams "don't get your hopes up for that new striker".

Or they're trying to avoid giving it to a new player because of the weight of expectation it carries. It being passed to a striker already at the club is much less of a story than, say, Kone being signed and being given Vardy’s shirt straight away. Remember that Vards isn't just a legend to us.

I do it the other way around, 18 is striker (1+8 = 9) and 19 (1+9 = 10) for AM 😅

Possibly but depends on who we sign, don't think Kone would be number 9 if we signed him anyway. I expect us to get in a senior, experienced striker who is not Danny Ings.

Crikey, I remember everyone making a valid argument we shouldn't retire the 9 and it should be something every young player strives for. I dont think anyone should have it until they earn it. But weve just given it away 🤷‍♂️

Who do you suggest should have it?

I wonder if that ship has sailed now we know the Number 9 has gone. The 'senior, experienced striker' gets the shirt while the young striker with potential gets the Number 18 to alleviate the pressure. All it takes is for said youngster to have a slow start and go three or four without scoring and the 'he's no Vardy' comments are afoot.

If it turns out to be Kone in the Number 18 shirt who then goes on to score 20 goals before Ayew leaves this time next year, he'll likely step up to it.

I mean out of the current squad who would have 9. You wouldn't give it to the kids with the weight of that number.

Good point.

We’re not getting 2 strikers 😂

Absolutely 100% agree with this, for once I think this is very sensible move by the club, why burden a younger player or new striker with the added pressure of wearing the shirt number recently vacated by possibly our greatest ever player, that would have been an unreal weight of expectation for any player to carry.

Vardy to Ayew such a downgrade although I guess it means the next guy isn't quite living in vardys shadow.

After my initial ‘what the f**k’ reaction, I thought this too. A lot of pressure on a new main striker if they get given the number 9 straight away.

Zero problems with Ayew taking the 9 shirt. A senior pro and member of leadership team standing up and putting himself forward to be a main man. No issue at all, shows balls and belief.

huge fan of BN4

I genuinely couldn’t remember if we had sold Harry Souttar. What on earth is going on with him? Guessing he’s severely injured and I’ve missed something?

Also, who’s this Decordova-Reid bloke? 😂
