Calling himself Elves is a great way to improve his game.

He now needs to raise his game further with new levels of technique to make himself look like a continental Portuguese maverick. He could have changed it to Willfredo Alverez, but no, I think he's going about it the right way.

And yet I still feel he wasn't utilised to full effect yesterday because of our laborious build up.

An attack-minded manager gets Alves in with about 15 G/A in a season off the wing

Thing is, even if he does get amazing numbers he just completely transforms the dynamic of the team. His directness and pace does far more for us than any numbers will show.

That's why it's so great he's playing at wing back, keeping him nice and far away from the attacking third...

I want him closer to the opposition goal, he has the 1 v 1 ability to win us games on his own. Joseph at RWB and Alves at RAM would be a dangerous combo at championship level so they will be unplayable (if they’re allowed to take any risks) in L1.

Kangasniemi for Thomas or Okoli, JJ in at RWB and then Alves over Chaplin or whichever dosser changes the dynamic of the team completely. We need individual quality to compensate for our coaching deficiencies - just as it has done in pretty much all of our (few) wins over the past 3 years.

Fully endorse this. Alves can play at RWB as he'd in mustard form but it's not making best use of his attacking capabilities.

Per 90 stats and he is definitely at the top end for the league for creative players, being used as a wing back in a third of his games isn’t hurting his creativity thankfully

Obviously I hope there’s more to come but have been Impressed with his creativity. Was a bit worried he wouldn’t influence the game.

We all hope he starts adding goals which I believe he’s capable of. Took his goal at Bromley really well. I can see him scoring a goal arriving at the back post soon.

The assists will surely come. Creates too many chances for them not to.

At the very least he works hard which I know, bare minimum but these are tragic times.

Your either over estimating him, or under estimating the league 1 opposition..

The numbers aint numbering...

The lad is a joy to watch, numbers or not. The reason he stands out is that he is exciting with the ball at his feet which is a stark contrast to the rigidity in the rest of the team.

I think he's doing well, and has made a effort to play the right wing back role.

I think he still sometimes struggles to make the right decision or pass when he gets into the box, but it's coming and it's not for the want of trying.

Anyone else notice how slow O’hora was to get the ball to him? Under hit the pass nearly every time.

Seems to be the case everywhere on the pitch

The passing is so slow a lot of the time or they take loads of touches before making the pass that the receiver has so much less space and often has no choice but to go back

Martin mantra keep the ball at all costs.

Alves would be in so much space and he’d get the slowest ball ever allowing the defender to be back in position

It’s frustrating to watching players behind so they have to stop and most of the time send it back.  It feels like passing into space and 1-2s isn’t even a thought.

I wish Alves had half the amount of chances that Thomas does, 90% get sent backward

With stuttering Okoli as playmaker we have no chance.
