For balance's sake - a large proportion of Maccabi fans were looking for it, they knew what they were getting in for.

100% there would have been. It's the same when any violence like this occurs and I don't have any sympathy for those looking to cause unrest or trouble.

My sympathies lie with the 200 Tel Aviv fans who had to hide in a casino because they were a victim of targeted violence based solely on their religion.

With the level of tension that was around at the time, some people ended up hurt but IMO that is to be expected when either side taunts the other. I'd expect a whack on the nose if I ran past Old Trafford with a Liverpool flag shouting You'll Never Walk Alone, let alone if I ran past a group of Israeli's with a Palestinian flag or if I ran past a group of Palestinian protesters with an Israeli flag.

The whole stuff about a "Jew hunt" is disgusting. It's clear that Tel Aviv fans were targeted for their religion and also that the Police did a horrendous job of managing the situation. It's clear that there were organised efforts to attack Tel Aviv fans on mass.

It's a chicken and egg situation really, they were targeted because they are racist against Arabs. It's almost as if these two communities have hated each other for 3000 years!

The comparison with more "conventional" football hooliganism doesn't really hold water either, hooligan groups can be relatively easily kept away from each other on a matchday. Put a couple of thousand openly anti Muslim, racist Tel Aviv fans into Birmingham and every single interaction they have with a big proportion of locals from the minute they arrive to the minute they leave is going to be an incident.

The Tel Aviv CEO said that he expected around 1,000 tickets.

You're not wrong when you say that there will be a significant portion of their away following that wants to cause trouble and there will be a significant number of pro-Palestinians who will want to attack them. There are simple measures the Police can take to drastically reduce the chance of ticket holders causing or being a victim of violence.

This blanket ban is just blatant antisemitism. Jewish football fans are being treated unfairly because of their religion.

Russians were banned before you could blink yet the Israelis are still here, would argue that is the opposite of antisemitism

"The Israelis" are not here. That's what we're discussing.

The game is going ahead. They're in the competition and playing home games in neutral territory. It's a farce.

Let's not open a can of worms but these fvckers should be nowhere near UEFA comps anyway. Look at the map.

We've gone full circle and policticains are now desperate for racist football hooligans to attend matches.

I was just thinking how funny it is the way English fans are treated re: hooliganism but when a foreign club with a long history of hooliganism is banned from attending a match it's a different story

It's a ban on Maccabi Tel Aviv isn't it? I'd question if we were talking about Hapoel Be'er Sheva qualifying it would happen.

There's no ban on jewish football fans attending games at Villa Park or in this country. Clubs such as Tottenham will play at Villa Park without incident this season and someone like Ajax will be playing in England next week.

I think they are bringing more attention to it and increasing any likelihood of trouble. A lot of people in Birmingham probably had no idea this was happening until it got in the news.

Not sure about that. There has been recent talk about Israel and Israeli clubs being banned from UEFA competitions plus Aston Villa are obviously a massive part of that region. Plenty of people would have known this was happening.

I'm sure the decision will be reversed and huge pressure on the Police to keep as many safe as possible. Don't envy them.

They very much did. I knew of one Villa fan not attending due to the likelyhood of violence. A fair few were utterly appalled by the control of Legia last season and didn’t want a repeat

And if it does they will take all the blame now .

Problem isn’t at the ground as such but how the locals will react or thugs who mlght go to the area looking for a fight .

That particular card has long passed its sell-by date, despite what politicians and so-called journalists may tell you.

The Maccabi fans have been banned for their actions, not their ethnic status.

Well it seems there will be no away fans travelling to the game now.

Maybe some common sense in a way but sad it’s come to this ?

A complete embarrassment for the UK. A very sad situation where we can't control our own population and offer protection to visiting football fans from some horrible racists 😕
