It is not going to be Martin for the following reasons:

1. He is currently out of work. If we wanted him and he wanted us, he'd already be in post.

2. He is severely damaged goods after the Rangers gig, and while our owners make bad decisions they don't typically appoint somebody off the back of a spectacular failure.

3. Everybody knows that what we need more than anything else is somebody who can organise a defence and make us more resilient. Martin has shown in every job he's had that organising a defence is not his forte.

4. The club knows it would be a profoundly unpopular choice among the fans at a time when we're at serious risk of a major drop in attendances next season. It would be commercial suicide to appoint him.

5. One of the few encouraging things to come out of Top's recent interviews is that he seems to have finally let go of his Man City obsession and accepts that football has moved on. Martin's time as a viable candidate for us has passed.

Gerrard would be just as much of a disaster as Martin. After three managers in a row who lost the dressing room at Seagrave we need somebody who has proven he can inspire and lead a squad of players. Gerrard proved himself to be a horrendous man manager at Villa, where he was hated by the players. Unfortunately he's also tactically clueless, which means he has literally nothing to offer. Thankfully I think there is very little chance of the club choosing him anyway.

You give very true and clearly obvious reasons why Martin shouldn’t even be vaguely considered, it just remains to be seen whether Top the Dunderhead can work it out too!

Two editions, one with a “longest champo goal” patch on it, one without.

The kind of people hoping for Gerrard are the exact same lot I'd guess who were so easily cucked by the Dutchman

Majority here seemed happy with Cifuentes too, and look how that turned out.

Sometimes, it is just luck whether a Manager clicks with a club and squad or not.

Not to say that we should just appoint anyone, but I do find it strange that people are so willing to lambast others who have a different opinion/vision of what might or might not work.

Personally, I am not keen on hiring Rowett, but he may just click here.

Not convinced by Gerrard at all. I think I’d rather go for some up and coming manager from the lower leagues than a “name” like Gerrard. First job is to coach and motivate a team to achieve Championship survival - not build a team to strive towards European qualification in the Premier League. It’s horses for courses

This is true, but you improve your chances of a manager 'clicking' with the club if you have a strong culture, clear direction and effective leadership from the board. If everything behind the scenes is in place, a competent manager should be able to succeed. But if the culture has become toxic, there's no leadership and the club is generally a mess, you'll need to find a genius manager to make a difference—and they are hard to come by.

We are doomed then :surrender:

A cold sweat, eh?

You know what would do just the job to keep you warmer...

Seems Rowett is close to Blackburn.

What on earth is the plan here? (Short answer is there isn’t one I know)

I think he is a better fit for them at the moment. I struggle to see how he would motivate our squad of divas and underperformers. It will likely take a very strong character to get a tune out of us until the end of the season.

Because we literally haven't got a pot to pee in they are waiting until King wins his first match and then they will announce him.  (Even though King doesn't want it).

my thoughts too. They were desperate for him to win a game, so they can confirm him. Doubt they would even give him a pay rise either.

I’d rather we let King have it to the end of the season than hire the wrong person.

If the right manager to take us forward isn’t available, I don’t want to be bringing in another pointless candidate from our limited pool.

Agree on this. And picking up on your previous point, I don't necessarily think it's all luck whether a manager succeeds. Some managers just fit.

On that point, I think the OGS vibes are perfect for us. There's just something right about him for us. The slight element of misfit,  of unfancied but at the same time has that against-all-odds winner about him (in a similar way to MON)

Very valid points there. Unfortunately No 4 is probably a mute one as the club give no thought, or very little to what the fans think anymore. Fans are seen customers.
