If we go down, Sunderland came back from a much worse position than us. We can come back from this but it needs a lot to change.

Indeed, took them 3 or 4 years to get back. But they did and are now in the Premier League.

If you take the whole of the clubs history from 1884 we are top 6 I'd guess of the 2nd tier, we've spent more years in the second tier than either the top tier or the third tier.

We are top 20 for trophies, fanbase, ground capacity...we are a premier league club in stature. Clubs like Burnley and stoke with a few more seasons in the top division are smaller than us.

I think we'd be in a battle to stay up without a potential points deduction. So many teams below us that'll be ahead of us within a few weeks.

Portsmouth will be above us soon enough we are down with Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn.

Our next few fixtures look...tough

Loads of better away days in League One. Just hope Lincoln don’t go up.

And less happy clappers, I guess we have to look on the very small positives of another miserable season.

Will we ruling be made within this season?  Does anyone actually know?

It's easier to take when you switch the way you look at it.

1. Our owners deserve it. See it as just punishment for them and their pockets.

2. What are we losing out on? Do you really see us turning things around and becoming a progressive force in the Championship again under these owners? No, of course not. So let it go. Relegation means you don't have to watch further slow decline in the Championship.

3. While not a sure thing, relegation surely shortens the odds of the ownership selling up. If nothing else, it surely speeds up the process.

4. Most of the players deserve it too. Many of whom will believe they are too good for that level. We'd be rid of even more of this playing squad that we hate than if we cling on.

At this point, I have zero hope of us turning things around under these owners. The idea of the utter carnage that would be relegation feels like justice, and also feels like ripping off the plaster.

There's no guarantee we'd 'do a Pearson', but the prospect of us fading into obscurity in League One, for me, is no less appealing than the idea of limping along in the Championship, clinging onto second tier status as we watch turgid football and journeyman footballers jog about the pitch.

Relegation > Mass protests (wishful thinking) > Top sells up > Start again

Oxford will still go down with Wednesday and probably us. Don't let last week fool you. They are an appalling football team.

Go back a year and on here was “a reset in the championship”. Don’t fool yourself and think there would be any type of reset in league 1.

There is a big difference between relegation to the Championship and League One.

Relegation to Championship isn't seen as embarrassing as it should be for a 'club of our stature' (despite the recent success and money spent which should make it unforgivable.)

Relegation to League One, given the money spent, would be unprecedented.

Reminder that our owner still thinks we're gearing up for a play off push. Relegation to our lowest ever point would hit hard. It'd be truly embarrassing, and would tear up the 'business as usual' blithering zombie mode that we are stuck in. It would be a shock to him. A slap around the chops.

Change, in some form at least, would surely come about. It might not be instant, but surely Top doesn't have the appetite for the repetitive failure and financial drain we're becoming. And even in League One, with our infrastructure and history, we'd be an interesting proposition to new owners.

I’ve been saying for a while we are literally the new Sunderland. Over-paid players not arsed about the club, wouldn’t surprise me to see a younger age group bullying the first team similar to the Netflix doc with Sunderland

Without paying too much attention to Sunderland during their League 1 years, have they had changes at the club since? My concern is, with our current regime I still can’t see us turning things around even in League 1

I honestly feel like the league are waiting to see what happens to us before they enact their punishment so as to inflict it at the worst possible time. Why does it take so long? All horse shit.

But my point is, exactly what you’ve just said was said by some about us going to the championship.

I honestly think now, the people at the top don’t have the ability to change things, but are stubborn to admit it. So personally, I think we drop again and there’d be another interview with him saying “I don’t know how we are here but we will go back up” whilst simultaneously doing nothing to make that happen.

Who do we think will likely be here and in the side next season in League 1?

Aluko

Braybrooke

Alves

Page? Could get temped away

Cartwright? Would he be ready?

Monga will likely go. Same with Nelson.

Surely most others will want to move on. There’s only so far that sitting around on their wages will suit them….

If the deduction is any more that 5-6 points then we are 100% down.

I'm not even sure we'll stay up without a points deduction. The EFL will probably wait for us to be relegated this season then slap with us a huge points deduction to wreck any chance we have of coming back up.
