I think that’s the issue. So many players are out of contract at the end of the season, many on very high wages. They know those contracts won’t be renewed, so what difference does it make to them? They have probably seen Wout Faes playing against PSG in the Champions League and think, why not me? Free agent in the summer, and then over to Ligue 1 or Serie A. It’s a pay cut but so what? They made a mint while they could, they can play their football wherever. No commitment to the club, to the city, to the fans. Nothing to play for, so why play? Ironically it’s the young loanees who are busting a gut for us, trying to catch the eye of their respective managers for next season. I realise I’m not speaking for all the players all the time - I mean, what do I know? - but it’s the solid impression they are giving as they walk around the pitch and watch on as the opposition actually try, and actually win, against  ‘star players’. 
 

Im resigned to League One. So long as we can stay solvent, maybe under new owners, we might retain some of the promising youngsters and maybe pick up some up and coming players who want to play for a ‘big club’, with a manager with something to prove, and maybe we can make a tilt for the Championship within a season or two, and start all over again.

Yeah, probably not but it's been a tough day and I'm not asking for much in the face of back to back relegations and financial peril so let it go, eh?

Yes sadly we'll be forced to flog anyone we can get a few beans for, or terminate contracts with compensation for those we can't sell. But Hamza might still be haunting the place!

Yep, we'll be forced to flog anyone we can get a few beans for.

 

 

Souttar, Thomas, Choudhury, Reid, Kristiensen, Skipp will continue to stink the team out next season because none of them will take a pay cut to go elsewhere, and even if they would very few would have any interest. We will have to play them as there won’t be the headroom to replace them with anyone else. Will be these disgraces plus our 2nd rate youngsters, as anyone we can get a pure profit fee for will be long gone.

Golding, Skipp, Ayew, Daka, Woyo, Carranza, Okoli, Richards, Reid, all signed having been scouted by a blind man. 
Hamza and Thomas getting contract extensions 

Ramsey still here even though he’s injured.


No forward planning whatsoever. 

 

 

This is why we’re heading to league 1.

Surely some of these will have to go on loan with some of their wages being covered if we can't get a fee for them. It's not sustainable for us to pay the sort of wages these guys are on and it wouldn't surprise me if the total weekly squad wages of some League 1 teams are less than Skipp's.

Hasn't that already happened this season?

I recall reading that Winks for example, was on more than the entire Oxford eleven when we played them.
