Who do we need (Summer 2026)

Just saw this. If we were linked to a player with these highlights, especially considering last season was a "bad" season for Alves, we would be creaming ourselves.

I thought Luc de Fougerolles had a decent World Cup at CB for Canada, yet to make an appearance for Fulham and imagine he'd be after another loan, spent last season in the Belgian league so he may be aiming higher than League One.

I can see us bringing in at least one CB on loan, but this is where I can see Man City and Maresca helping us out.

 

Not sure they’d loan us Alleyne or Mfuni, but they also have Kian Noble and Finley Burns, wouldn’t surprise me if one of those two joined.

You expect our CB position to be decimated(A good thing) to the point where the loan market might have to be used.

 

Alleyne and Mfuni looked the part at Watford last season, so not sure they’d be attainable. Finley Burns has had a few loans already, Martin had him at Swansea but didn’t feature much. Kian Noble was one of the best players in PL2 last season, probably due a loan, I reckon he’s starting material in League 1.

Thing is with that though Ric, is will a new manager 'gamble' like that, when they could just go and get someone new in, quite easily (assuming at least three of our current CBs leave this summer)?

Oh we definitely need reinforcements at the back with hopefully Vestergaard, Okoli and Faes going and quite likely Souttar and Nelson too. However, loan deals for 18-20 year olds I don't think are what we should be looking for when we have Wilson-Brown and Gray. Maybe we get 1 of that profile in but we need to rebuild this team as well as plug the gap.

I think he just needs a full season of playing. 
 

His last 2 seasons he has barely played consistently. Get a minimum of 35 games into him this season and see where he’s at.

Depends how willing Martin is to properly integrate some of the younger players but we probably genuinely need at least 10-15 new players... need to get a shift on and I do not trust them at all

 

Going to be like every transfer window where we get to the end where we have some massive glaring gap somewhere in the squad

I think (like many people) you're over estimating the amount that will leave. We're just not going to be able to shift all those

Even if it is on loan I just cannot see many of those from above staying and playing in league one

 

Most of them in recent times have made it very clear they want out and wont be sticking around and that was when we were in the Championship

 

Of those I have said will leave who do you think will actually end up staying?

Vieites I can see leaving because we will probably get a new number 1

 

Coulibaly hasn't wanted to be here since he joined and I just cannot see him staying around

 

Nelson I think we will have no choice but to sell because of his contract

 

Mavididi I do think could stay, but there is interest in him from Spain (somehow)

He's probably the most technically gifted player in league 1, perhaps would even be a competitor for that title in the championship if we were still at that level. Reminds me of Iliman Ndiaye.

 

I haven't seen a single player mentioned on this thread with comparable control of the ball.

 

As you said hopefully he gets some consistency with us and that technical ability translates into performances.

Vietes - just think he's a classic 'happy to be a squad keeper' type

 

Coulibaly - Dunno. Just have a feeling he could work well in a RM system when he plays 4 at the back and has 1 full back bombing on (on of his tactics, apparently). God Knows where he is though. Probably trying desperately to get a move tbf!!

 

Nelson - think RM has already put an arm around him, told him he's going to be one of his merry men. New deal soon I'd expect 

 

Mavididi - I think he's too lazy to force a move 😂

With my optimistic hat on, I think Nelson could stay. Has featured pretty prominently in coverage so far and seems to have led our new kit campaign. Could see Martin really liking Nelson and building the defence around him.
 

Would obviously need him to sign a new contract… maybe a new contract with a get out clause for a reasonable amount if we don’t get promoted straight away?

Hearing NTT20 do a podcast about transfers in the EFL so far has made it hit home how far we're lagging behind again. With as much to do as nearly anybody but absolutely nothing, as usual.

 

This club is literally not capable of doing a lot of things at a time. I'd imagine it's linked to the owner having to sign off everything and being available about 5% of the time.

In an ideal world, with those players hopefully we want gone we’ll need so many signings, but hopefully wants to that remove too many opportunities for the young players we do keep
