What a day that was. 3 May 1980, nearly 46 years on but can remember it like it was yesterday :scarf:

Wasn’t you that tipped that hot dog van over was it?

Haha, no. But I was at Harlow away when we lost in the FA Cup and remember the hot dog wagon being rolled over.

Liverpool 1 Leicester City 2; January 1981.

I was a teenager and it's strange to imagine now that it felt like we had won a cup final given the power and quality of Liverpool during that era. And they hadn't lost at home for a couple of years. Sadly no highlights anywhere.

I was stood on the kop that day as id gone to watch with a few of my college mates from Liverpool

We had just been beaten 3-1 by Exeter in midweek in the FA cup (replay?) and we were bottom of the league....and Liverpool were absolutely flying so no one gave us a chance went they went 1-0 up.

We fought back to win 2-1 (pat Byrne and Jimmy melrose?) but what really sticks in my memory is the absolute pandemonium surrounding me on the Kop as time was running out and their long, long unbeaten home run was about to end

They were genuinely getting hysterical and there were many in tears at the final whistle and then........

....as the leicester players started walking off towards the tunnel from the far-end,  the Kop began to applaud and the City players walked sheepishly down to the Kop end to take the huge applause looking genuinely bemused!

Never seen that before in football at that time....genuinely choked me to be surrounded by scouse Koppites applauding the city players who were rock bottom of the league at that time....and against all the odds, had become the fist team to beat them at home in years!

Absolutely iconic day...brisbane Road, May 1980

Bit anxious about what might greet us when we walked out of the tube station onto Leystonstone High Street.....needn't have worried..........seemed like the whole of leicester was there that day!

One of THE great days...!

Wasn't there tonight but most angriest I've ever been in my life I think was the Spurs game we were leading 2-1 in the 95th min. Absolute headloss to lose from there, raging how spineless we were (still are)

Best moment for comparison was the Tielemans goal at Wembley. Just knew we were gonna win from there (despite the subsequent drama!) Such a shame the European bottles and relegation tainted a historic achievement. That squad should have all been heroes like our title winners

Still got the chip in our living room wall from when I threw the remote in anger.

Tonight though? I felt nothing, nothing at all.

( In my defence, I threw it hard down on the sofa and it bounced and then hit the wall)

The way that that much of  the Kop applauded is an incredible and abiding memory. Thanks for reminding me about that. Also, a funny thought was that Alan Young got to score a goal in the legendary Anfield Kop end. Shame that it was an own goal .

This got me thinking last night.....was this the largest ever following we've ever taken to an away league fixture??

Crowd was just short of 14k that day and it was estimated we had 10k fans there.

Cant imagine many other league fixtures where we have taken >10,000 fans....but im sure someone on FT might know the answer to that?

Must be the most. Orient's average home gate that season was 4,000. Hell of a day that was.

Must be up there.

I remember when we played Charlton away at Upton Park as the Valley was shut, in I think the Little days when it must have been a similar amount.

Half the ground was shut off as the Charlton fans were boycotting, but they had to open one of the stands down the side because of the sheer amount of City fans packed in behind the goal.

Had a nice kick about on the pitch with an over sized beach ball as they moved us.

Think we lost 2 0 with Rob Lee scoring the goals.
