If the announcement video, first interview etc. is anything to do with him returning, I’m throwing my phone cover away (cheaper than the phone obvs).

“Gary, welcome back, it must feel special to back here.”

”Yeah, yeah, amazing, missed the place. Special place in my heart”.

You played 40 games Gaz, we were shit for most of the time. Just teach the players how to defend, we don’t have to pretend you bleed blue.

Also very likely he'll name drop Rudkin and Top as good people he's looking forward to working with lol

I think our only hope is tight, disciplined anti-football tbh

I hope we win every game 1-0 for the rest of the season

Should be enough for the play offs

When viewed in the context of where we were a few years ago, obviously not. As recently as last summer I would have been depressed as hell by this appointment.

When viewed in the context of where we are right now, I'm happy because I think Rowett offers us the most plausible route to survival—which is our sole priority for this season.

We've travelled a long way in the wrong direction over the past few years. Surviving this season might put a floor under our downward spiral and enable us to begin, slowly, to rebuild.

Yes, ths is it exactly. I've nothing against Rowett and he seems decent enough but it's a very meh appointment isn't it, to go with the meh season and mostly meh squad.

He's got one job now, to keep us up, and I hope his experience of this league will help him to do that, but I won't be wildly celebrating if he does it as we should never have been in this position in the first place.

Let's just get this awful season done and look at a complete re-set in the summer - and actually bloody do it this time.

Feels like the right appointment for what we need now (well, 3 weeks ago). Can't see it having a shelf life beyond 18 months, but think both us and Rowett could get a decent 18 months together before parting ways.

Goal is to survive this season and stabilise next I think. Don't think we can have any ambitions beyond that right now.

Doesn't matter who the manager is if the players attitudes don't improve we are doomed ..

I actually feel sorry for anyone coming in so will give him my full support

I can't see him doing well here but to be fair to him, I can't see ANYONE turning this dumpster fire around. Not with what they have to work with and who it is they are working for.

So, are we all going to be singing "Super Gary Rowett" to the tune of "I predict a Riot" or is that just me?

Singing would be a start lol

Mad that Rowett's been available all this time, and we're now into Day 3 of being aware that the club want to hire him. Can't be many other clubs with higher ups who are this painfully slow and out of their depth.

Be nice but realistically with our shower at the back, even a more disciplined back to basics approach is going to struggle to stop us conceding.

Lots of 1-1 draws and scraping survival? Guess I'd take that right now.

We need to get lucky and he just clicks with this terrible squad, enough so to get us clear of relegation.

I think his ceiling is lower and suspect the longer he is with us, the longer we settle into being a bog standard Championship club.

But, keeping us a Championship club is the new target... depressingly.

by the way it would actually be really funny if the deal collapses after all this noise

That is literally the managers job.
