Tuna Posted 6 September Posted 6 September 25 minutes ago, Happy Fox said: Leicester considering Russell Martin future Leicester City are understood to be considering the future of Russell Martin after a poor start to their League One campaign, @TEAMtalk understands. Martin was appointed in the summer following the Foxes’ relegation from the Championship, with Leicester widely regarded as one of the favourites for promotion. However, they have won just one of their opening five league games, while home defeats to Burton Albion and Oxford United have piled the pressure on the manager. The defeat to Oxford proved particularly damaging, with home supporters turning on Martin and chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” during the game. TEAMtalk understands Leicester’s hierarchy are now assessing the situation and considering Martin’s position as the club looks to respond to the disappointing start. Martin is facing a battle to save his job, with the pressure building after a run of results that falls well short of what Leicester expected when they appointed him. The situation represents another difficult chapter for Martin since guiding Southampton to promotion via the Championship play-off final against Leeds in 2024. Since then, across three different clubs, Martin has won just three league games. He managed just one league victory at Southampton before being dismissed in late 2024, while his subsequent spell at Rangers lasted only 122 days and again produced just one league win. Now, with only one league victory since taking charge at Leicester, the pressure is mounting once more. The Foxes went into the season expecting to challenge at the top of League One, but their early results have fallen well short of those expectations. With supporters now openly expressing their frustration and the club’s hierarchy assessing the situation, Martin’s position is firmly under scrutiny. If only this was from John Percy

chesterfox Posted 6 September Posted 6 September The club is an absolute mess! The slide down has been catastrophic & handled like a bunch of amateurs. yet here we are. A bunch of really talented young players who absolutely represent our future, but it ain’t gonna happen overnight, yet only few fans left, who have that patience. RM was never the answer. Unless there is someone of real steel, experience and with character ( can you think of anyone?) it’s gonna be more pain first.

Richmondfox Posted 6 September Posted 6 September (edited) For every good team selection he seems to make, several poor ones follow and then make it more difficult because of the style. It's never his tactics that are wrong, just the application by the players. It has failed in 3 leagues now. I said this in this in the game chat, his style of football is like playing world of warcraft or Dark Souls without any amour or weapons. We finally get a LB that wants to get forwards with the ball and help start attacks, we finally have a LW who can take players on, cross and shoot, we have two young CM that can drive with the ball from deep to create space and get us up the pitch. We finally get a win and look like we have something to work with, Martin might have worked out the strengths. Nope. He keeps starting Luke Thomas as a CB and now in 2026 after a win, he then changes the style and makes the player Enzo didn't want anywhere near the club to be the main focal point of that style. A player that can't pass to the left so nullified our own left wing, a player that can't defend and even tried to blame a youngster for the player that he was marking and let turn him because he didn't bother to move 1ft to press and close the space for his shot. He gets Wes Burns, a meat and potato winger that will ping balls into the box if he is given a forwards pass and people are in the box. The forward is dropping deep because Reid is on the halfway line and yesterday didn't even bother moving for a simple 1-2 that would have opened them up. Sammy and Page were thrown under the bus yesterday, playing a different style to what worked previously. Sammy was expected to control a pass from Thomas after he stands there for a minute ignoring Alves waving for the ball. They would rather try and pass at all costs in a crowded midfield where everyone is marked than knock the ball to the wingers who were falling asleep. As soon as Oxford got the ball, they moved it around the back but not to the keeper and pinged it to their winger, they didn't wait for a press because we don’t press, we just stay high up the pitch pissing around the middle. It’s not like the King Power clowns are going to wake up and realise they have been appointing morons for the past three years. Whilst King Power and Rudkin are here they WILL find someone even worse. Because at least that way we might luck into someone half competent, whereas we all know exactly where this is going under RM. 1
BrilliantFox Posted 6 September Posted 6 September This club is dire at managerial recruitment. Cooper - Pure dogshit and brought in pure dogshit players that have given us back to back relegations Ruud - Novice inexperienced ex-player, fell out with players and had no gameplan Cifuentes - Unable to cope with the pressure here, QPR was his level Rowett - Worse version of Dean Smith, brought in to steer the ship to safety but was useless Russell - Pure dogshit again I have no faith in this club until Aiyawatt sells. 2022 - 2026 is worse than a fever dream.

If Martin goes (he should) it’s the same f@cking tool deciding who to bring in. And that manager has to play possession based football for the sake of it. Non of this gets better until they’re gone I’m afraid. Half of me wants Martin’s ego to prove us all wrong and I don’t want to watch this each week and see us relegated but I just can’t see us turning this around.
Parker Pen Posted 6 September Posted 6 September Pretty much every poster on here has predicted this disaster yet he was still appointed and it is all playing out as expected. Back in June moore_94 said how long before someone sticks 3 or more past us? Didn’t last long did it? If we do bin him off then Hourihane could step in couldn’t he? Managed Barnsley last season. That’s what I’d do today but they won’t will they!

With the exception of JJ, the whole defence was shocking yesterday. The defending for the 1st and 2nd goals was U7 level. Souttar has no pace, he's suited for a low block which isn't any use for Leicester in L1 regardless of the manager or style we should have sold him for a sensible price. LT is not a CB, he did ok as an emergency in 2 games but should have been replaced. JJ and Mcfarlane are very attacking and would be better as wing backs in a 3421, but we don't have many defensive midfielders. We were so open yesterday, but going forward, I would play Aluko, O'Hora and either Ilari or Souttar, as CBs Wing backs are JJ and McFarlane Midfield Lundstram and Braybrooke 10s are Alves and Page 9 is either Riis or Bristric The recruitment has been OK, but we've got too many similar attacking players in Watson, Howell, Cullen, BDR, Burns and Doyle, Chaplin that are competing for 3 places in 3421 Watson or Burns could play as wingbacks, but Burns hasn't started well. This is all hypothetical because RM won't change, if he's sacked any new manger will need more defensive midfielders in January. Edited 6 September by trooky 1
southfox66 Posted 6 September Posted 6 September i actually saw Martin at southampton a few times and to be honest even though they were promoted, their played pretty much in the style he has us, which their fans moaned about alot of time, but when you have managers like that, you only seem to get good results when the teams decide to forget what they are told and play free flowing football, but of course the manager will always claim the credit.
Sly Posted 6 September Posted 6 September I think we are stuck with him until we are sold. New owners will bring in their own man. 1

Nalis Posted 6 September Posted 6 September I was naive enough to think he might be too shit for us and the championship medium term but should be good enough to get us out of this league. How wrong I was, he's got to be finished as a football manager as I cant see what level he can be successful at
ozvaldo Posted 6 September Posted 6 September 5 games is enough to see the general pattern for me. Almost zero intent going forward. Completely clueless and slow at the back. The vast majority of the new recruits that he’s had a major hand in have looked woeful - Particularly Cullen, Burns, Chaplin, McCarthy and Watson. It is so so poor. It will not get better. He’s insisting we play prime Pep ball, with players who are so shit - no one above League 1 wanted. We got a lucky result against Plymouth by somehow bagging two late first half goals. Other than that, we’re predictable, slow, rigid, and incredibly easy to play against. I’ve had a season ticket for 25 years but won’t be going down again this season. It’s too depressing and a complete waste of my time.

It really doesn’t matter who plays if it’s martins system he played yesterday. The game before it started to click with Oage running from deep after receiving the ball quickly. The clown then decides to change it using the worst and most hated player at the club. we get opened up in the middle as they piss around with it. A basic manager would work wonders with this team.
nnfox Posted 6 September Posted 6 September People need to calm down a bit. My position: I didn't want RM here. I honestly thought it was a joke that his name was merely mentioned and when he was appointed I thought it would be a disaster. I don't want him here now. The reality of the position: RM has signed a three year deal. We are 5 games into the first season. It's been a bumpy start (to be kind) which was probably not out of the question given the trajectory of the club, the cultural problems and the biggest playing staff turnover in recent years. We do not have the money to sack him BUT, our value as a club will be plummeting, so there are some considerations around that Yesterday was a disaster, no question. But, I would say that it's just one game of football. There had been some encouraging signs and that could be measured in the mood on this forum with, dare I say it, some optimism creeping in. Losing one game of football 4-0 isn't as bad as losing 4 games 1-0. We scored 0 out of 3 yesterday and whether we lose 1-0, 4-0 or 9-7 it's still "just" 3 points dropped. Whoever the manager is, we will lose again this season and drop points. I don't see him going anywhere for at least 10 games, and if we win 5 or 6 of those, he's here until Xmas at least.

I’m guessing that’s what happened at Portsmouth because those tactics went out the window for the dross yesterday. The players have a lack of agency and a player like Thomas will be happy to do whatever he is told.
