The team who won the League One title at a canter last season didn’t have a player in the top 21 scorers in the league.

Leicester’s squad, despite its flaws, is comfortably the best team on every metric; experience, wage bill, cost, and so on. I haven’t looked but that probably applies across all time rather than just this season.

Okoli individually is worth more than the entire Notts County squad.

Any failure this season is not down to resources and it would be ludicrous to suggest otherwise.

Same as last season then?

The difference between the comparable budgets of Leicester and Southampton vs Leicester and Burton should be fairly self explanatory.

Leicester were not head and shoulders above their competitors last season.

Even still, you’re sort of proving my point that failure was not down to resources last season either, it was down to complete mismanagement.

Have you got a metric that takes into account that the defensive axis of McCarthy, Okoli, Souttar, Skipp and Thomas can't pass the ball to beat a league 1 press without giving up 2-3 big chances every week?

It’s known as “The Russ-o-meter”

I will be concerned if we're having the same discussions about xG in a few weeks time.

Ultimately the problems we had on Saturday were either entirely self-inflicted (and there is definitely reason to believe that Russell Martin won't learn from this) or because we were playing players that simply do not have a long term future in this team.

That defensive spine of....

McCarthy

Okoli Souttar

Skipp

....will not (or can not) continue to play as slowly as they did. There is no way that Martin will have been happy with the performances those 4 put out and they are 4 of our most senior players.  However, we were only regularly cut open because of individual errors. It's not like Notts County created chance after chance, they were given to them through poor individual play.

Cullen is a player I am desperately worried of. I really don't think he has a future starting games for us when we're at full strength. He just does not influence the game and you need a player who is constantly looking to get on the ball in the final 3rd for a controlling style of play to be effective. Alves kept Notts County pinned in and when we were giving him the ball we were a genuine threat and we created numerous half chances. The trouble was if we couldn't get it to Alves then we were relying on Cullen (who simply was not showing for the ball) or Burns (who didn't look to have the burst of pace we were told he had) and both of them kept losing it in good areas.

I am convinced that once we start playing with a fully fit Bristric, Burns and Chaplin then we will cause teams some serious harm in this league.

Bristric

Alves Chaplin Burns

Skipp Braybrooke

McFarlane NEW CB Okoli Joseph

Stolarcyzk

That attack is simply bloody good for this league. If we can get Chaplin and Braybrooke on the ball in the final 3rd with Alves and Burns out wide then we will score a lot of goals.

Bristric is unknown but the attack is good on paper,  however if the defensive spine can't progress the ball to them they'll be ineffective.

I think the performance against Notts County was better than the week before against Northampton, if he'd played a proper striker we could have scored 3 goals.

I hope your optimism is correct because RM has to succeed for the sake of our club.

The complete mismanagement of buying a squad of league one players for premier league prices

I wouldn't confident if we didn't have that 30-40 minute spell after we weathered the inital storm of the game.

WE went through that spell without them really having a kick in our half and if we had a striker i'm sure we'd have scored 2/3 goals. Alves tore them to bits.

Obviously the second half is very worrying but I do think there's plenty for the team to go off. It's one of those where we either learn from our mistakes and we'll be fine or we don't and Martin is out of a job in a month's time because this squad is more than capable.

It sort of is down to resources when a huge proportion of our resources are being wasted on experienced players that have checked out long ago.

irrelevant when discussing the underlying problems - if you consistently create very little and give up more than you create (as we have done the first two games), you might get one off results, but you are heavily relying on variance from an equation that is not in your favour.

Nothing is consistent over the course of 2 games though is it? It's not a large enough sample size to be consistent in anything, which is kind of the point.

it's a small sample size as far as specifically Martin at Leicester sure, but let's be very clear that what we're seeing is a continuation of what he was like in previous jobs and what we've been like with Aiyawatts insistence that we "play like man city". And the thing is, I don't think anyone doesn't recognize that, there's just a lot of performative ignorance to avoid committing the ultimate crime: being right too early (this is why the king power defenders still do it, because the people who rightly want them out were correct about the trajectory they were taking us too early, and so must be considered as entitled and cannot be agreed with)

If we had won both games comfortably, I can guarantee that the people who are saying he needs to go after two games would not be saying

that we will win the league comfortably.

They would be saying something along the lines of, it’s only been two games it will all go wrong soon etc etc

Honestly don’t think people would. Fans are craving some positivity right now. I even think on Saturday if we had drew but played well, everyone would have took on the chin.

Everyone is looking for something to believe in. The feeling of ‘keeping the faith’ is wearing thin.

Saturdays huge for him,

After some of the individual performances we saw on Saturday he has to make changes,

If at 1:45 on Saturday BDR is up top and LT is at LB I think he’ll lose a lot of supporters even this early on

The fact you still think wages and cost equate to good players is genuinely mind boggling after everything we've witnessed.

All of our most experienced players are extremely poor footballers. All of them. Our best players so far are three academy graduates in Alves, Baybrooke and JJ.

If you have a point it's an incredibly poorly thought through one.

He absolutely has to hit the ground running.

Fans are sick of being bored and patience is absolutely threadbare within the support. Many, many people did not want him here in the first place.

A failure to win the next two and it'll get ugly... Again.

Ooh you're hard! It didn’t get ugly before and nor will it again.

A 1-0 home defeat to Burton Albion would bring a few boos at the final whistle, but plenty will still be clapping the players off.

Seems to be the complete opposite to be honest, feels more like everyone is craving negativity.

I completely understand that the performances haven’t been good, but there have been good moments. Overshadowed by some complete and utter shit of course. Get rid of Souttar and replace with a competent ball playing cb, integrate bristric (assuming he comes good) and macfarlane and we could be looking like a very decent side.

Get rid of Skipp and Okoli as well

Would love to see it but I just can’t see anyone coming in for either of them.

Unless Martin moves braybrooke to the 6 when Chaplin is back, not too sure how braybrooke is defensively though?

There was quite a bit of fighting in the stands during Pearson's last season and Martin seems even more divisive so it's not out of the question.

Agreed that this is of concern, we gave up some guilt edge chances through our own flaws/mistakes. It is just  one game though, and hopefully it's something that becomes less of an issue as the season goes on providing we're able to replace those that don't fit.

Erm last time I checked we got off to a good start in the championship was around the top after 10 odd games. I think this brought a bit of time.

I think the credit in the bank is done for many, a defeat at home to mean being down the bottom of the 3rd division would be one step too much.

Lets hope it doesn’t come to that and we see a dominant win and the new striker start and score that would be nice.

Although you're right, our Gk, CBs and CDM all can't pass, this defensive fragility follows Russell where ever he goes. His Southampton team conceded 63 goals in the Champ. In fact going further back to his Swansea days, Russell teams have conceded 281 goals in 191 games, and I would hazard a guess a large proportion are due to the CBs, GK giving the ball away. Russell needs prime Ederson and Van Dyke standard players, or else you're looking to concede lots of goals from poor passing.

You weren't at the games where boomer ****s were having a pop - sometimes physically - at people vocalising wanting the manager and / or the ownership out, no?

You must be surrounded by Thermos-claspers.
