He babbled on about the symptoms rather than identifying the problem. “The team lacked intensity, lost duels, weren’t aggressive enough, started badly.” Okay, but why? And, more importantly, what the fvck are you going to change? There was nothing in that interview that answered these questions. He is basically saying the system is right but the players aren’t doing what I am telling them to do. His  footballing philosophy is so rigid that every failure becomes a failure of delivery rather than a question of approach. He has shown in that one interview that he has learnt absolutely nothing from his past failures. 
 

I grew up loving Leicester in the Martin O’Neill era. O’Neill’s great strength wasn’t a fixation to some rigid footballing ideology. He looked at the players available to him and asked what can this group do well, and how do I build a side around those strengths? What was especially worrying about RM’s interview is the absence of anything resembling humility. This is going to a very painful season on and off the pitch.

Think this is what annoys me most, and what I hoped was being resolved by the different types of wingers we were signing. The complete unwillingness to change the shape based on our players. I really hope today was just an early part of the season ‘who is good enough’ sort of game but now we need Martin to show he is a higher level manager by changing things

Our squad wasnt good enough for the championship, sold a lot of dross and what we have left doesnt look good enough for L1 untill King Power are gone nothing changes does it.

You're focusing your attention in the wrong place, this is all the board and owners fault. Was such an unnecessary appointment that was pure arrogance and content for our fanbase. The pressure was always going to be ramped up to an appallingly fragile set of players who's we aren't in the ideal environment to alter the squad exactly as we needed to.

 

Martin is such a bad fit for any club he'd be an attractive proposition for because the gig he needs he'd never get anywhere near. That's the irony.

 

So now we just have to sit back and wait yet again. League Two and/or going bust are very real possibilities. Would be fitting if he's the last manager of this football club if we do.

Every single person I know knew this appointment was a bad one.  We've been subjected to this posession obsession for years and its destroyed us.

He has shown in 2 games that he hasn’t looked at himself one little bit since Rangers hounded him out. For a man who talks about humility in every interview the level of blinkered arrogance he is displaying is beyond belief.
Signing his old mates on too lengthy contracts no doubt on unsustainable salaries and leaving us even more royally screwed than then he pitched up.

Marti was honking, Rowett the very definition of poor, this guy though will become the most hated manager we’ve ever had, and probably the one that send us over the edge. It’s so bloody obvious that we are a soft touch and completely unable to carry out his godawful game plan. We are in very very big trouble with this set of players and this manager.

The players are the players.  Those are the tools he has at his disposal.  They are not suited to his style of play and won't be either, regardless of how good a coach he thinks he is.

 

I'll give him a fair chance when he recognises that the players he has are not technically good enough to play his brand of football.

 

Our fortunes will change immediately if HE changes and comes up with a system that our players can actually play.  Sticking stubbornly to this fairytale football for the next 10-15 games will only get him sacked and prevent us from getting promoted.

Nothing ...absolutely nothing will change, hes too rigid and not wrong ever, just like the managers before him.. the system will stay the same, the players will move about a bit playing square pegs in round holes.  And he will persevere until ultimately the damage is too great.

Fair point. Bloke deserved an easier start than Notts County and Burton Albion. Even if their squad cost/s about a 100th of his.

1 point from 6 available against Notts County a league 2 side last season and Burton a league 1 relegation battle side last season is amazing isn’t it?

I saw somebody wrote in semi jest that the entire Burton squad's value is half that of what Wout Faes's transfer fee was alone!

I’m not focusing my attention on the wrong place. We all know the owner and top management are not fit for purpose. BUT football still continues during this period when the owners are looking to get out. The demand for a manager to be sacked after 2 games irrespective of the owners is just crazy. You have to give him a chance. I don’t like the fact he’s signed and is playing McCarthy, I don’t rate Okoli, Thomas, or Skipp I’m not particularly impressed with your mate Souttar, Cullen is peripheral BUT I do applaud his selection of Braybrooke, his selection of JJ, Alves, Howell, Aluko. I do see the logic of signing Chaplin and Burns, I do see an attempt to play forward, I do see he’s inherited massive weaknesses in key areas (particularly centre back) irrespective of the style of football we play,  and I do think it’s reasonable whoever the owners are, however poor the owners have been, to give a manager more than 2 games before demanding his sacking!

What Maresca did do was temporarily stop our reliance on players having worldie moments that has been prevalent for most of the last five years. Martin's style will create little in the area so we probably need someone who can ping it in from distance.
