Mahrez and Kante were not the original targets, but had the scouts not been at the match or didn't have the acumen to identify class when they saw it then we wouldn't have switched our interest to those players,

Signing players on the recommendation of agencies, which is the route we appear to have adopted over the last few years, is no replacement for proper scouting.

Using agencies is the exact opposite of scouting. In can't remember which podcast I heard it in but Leicester got a reputation where agents could palm players off for high wages.

This strategy has destroyed the club and I can only think that there were kickbacks involved.

Look at the dross we've signed over the last 4 years.

Actually, I've agreed with pretty much every word he has said.

He made a sensible post which actually said nothing positive about Rudkin, and suddenly got called "Pro Rudkin".

Ths thread is probably a good example of a mob mentality, but it is a lot of the usual suspects seeing the "Pro Rudkin" comment and piling in as they suddenly have a target to get their personal digs in.

Similarly, just because you type that everyone on the forum disagrees with him, it doesn't make it true. Just that there seems little point in making balanced posts in this thread at the moment.

People can disagree with the common position of course. But to claim you're the one with common sense is to claim you're in the majority.

I wouldn't call it a 'bug bear' - somebody raised the question about why fans have such a problem with seagrave, I made an observation of what I believed the cause was, and to qualify my point I compared it to the scapegoating that exists.  So it's not fair to say it's a bug bear, just a different way to how i look at things;  i'm really just talking about fan psychology, just relating behaviour that i've witnessed here and on other forums.  - why does that rile you so much?

But to answer (not argue) your first question: I don't have a problem with individuals being either criticised or commended for specific things that individual has done; and if people want to generalise and look for scapegoats, I disagree with that, but that's their prerogative to do so - as i say i'm simply discussing this phenomenon, not telling people what they should or shouldn't think-

And I'm not arguing with anyone , as i say, i can emotionally detach to discuss the bigger picture.  why suggest that i'm argumentative - i've only responded to people who have made a reasonable point, anyone trying to bait me i've ignored.  Do you think that because someone has a different opinion to you, they're argumentative.

And as for your (let's face it, it's a bit juvenile - i think you already know the answer and are just trying to get me 'argue') question about the premier league:  the only thought i had back then was sheer unadulterated joy - personally, i don't seem to remember there being any kind of focus on the owners at that time, some on the recruitment team - deservedly so. But it was all about the players.

Cool

Who or what do you think is to blame for the club going from winning the Prem to hitting the lowest point in it's history. I would like your opinion.

Same way it’s been lectured that Foxestalk is some form of partisan, extremist version of the fanbase.

When in reality, it’s a platform where people can share that opinion in an environment which doesn’t lead to actual confrontation.

How people defend the ownership and Rudders is beyond me.

I don't think anyone is defending Rudkin. The point being made is everything is blamed on him by people on here.

If Doris the tea lady fell over at home and broke her hip people would blame Rudkin. It's not supporting him it's being realistic.

No I'm not defending him and wanted the **** gone yrs ago.

Common sense is the name for it not a statement that it is.

In fact some of the things I see daily suggests having it would put you in the minority.

It's not exactly rocket science is it.

An incredibly shrewd and somewhat ruthless businessman from a modest family went from opening a single shop in downtown Bangkok in the 1980s to being a self made millionaire, then billionaire, with a royally approved monopoly on duty free in one of Asia's most popular Tourist nations.

He bought a football club, was fairly ruthless with his hiring and firing, took very little shit, didn't tolerate failure or even mediocrity. He announced to the world the club would be in Europe in a few years and delivered.

He fully understood the value of money, strived for the club to be self sufficient and oversaw a policy of buying low and selling high that gave his football club a solid reputation in the transfer market.

He wasn't perfect, he didn't know football inside out, he made mistakes. But he understood business, understood money and understood spending within his means whilst constantly growing his business.

... Then he died.

Interesting, so at no point between then and now has anyone had any chance (responsibility) to stop this unmatched decline?

Actually forget it I really can't be arsed

Happy to accuse fans for blaming Rudkin for issues he's not responsible for but doesn't give examples. Right ok.

WUM right here lol

We couldn't do better than Bob, Skipp and Ayew apparently lol

My jaw drops over and over again at his posts. I don't think even Rudkin himself would be this big an apologist.

I think if you can't read the post you just quoted and see that it very, very, very obviously implies where I'd put the blame for our decline then you probably shouldn't be throwing around sass about anyone else's smarts, my dude.

Ipswich just signed Palacios from Leverkusen for a fee in the same region of Skipp.

Thats a continental title winner, Bundesliga title winner and a World Cup winner joining a newly promoted club

I read the post and clearly wasn't doing that, but if you want to be confrontational, my dude, then have a great day.

We've done similar before, without spending a penny.

If you're going to throw very obviously heavily sarcastic sass I'm not sure you then get to bemoan someone responding to you with matching snark as "being confrontational" haha.

And what some people fail to recognise is that for a certain amount of time you can ride on the coattails of someone else's good work before you have to start making big decisions and running something yourself. That is exactly what happened with Aiyawatt. When he became chairman (obviously in tragic circumstances) we were an established premier league club that had won the title less than three years previously with a talented playing squad with a good mix of experienced professionals and promising young players. That squad was underachieving under Puel and one of the first things he did was sack Puel in bring in Brendan Rodgers. You could give him credit for that, but it seems pretty clear to me that the club wanted Rodgers when Vichai was still alive.

When Aiyawatt had to control of the football club, things started to spiral, and he shown that he was incapable of making the right decisions to arrest our decline.

The thing is Finn, if you had read the post you quoted you would have realised it wasn't asking you in the first place....

Nevertheless, choosing to respond with 'it's not exactly rocket science is it' might be construed as something you obviously would never want it to be.

He's been the director of football for years, he's the one in charge of overseeing the footballing side of the business. During that time, there has been a complete and total failure of almost every single facet of the footballing operation, that has decayed to the point that it's underperformance means we operate in a league with revenues so low it threatens the survival of the entire business.

There has been failures in first team management, recruitment of players, managers, coaching staff and recruitment staff. Failures in the giving out of contracts to players, failures to move on unwanted players, and hundreds of millions of pounds worth of signings leaving on Bosmans. Managers have been sacked but problems remain. Players have moved on, but are replaced by more dead weight with zero resale value. At this point, he's about the only aspect left that has not been changed. If you are supposed to be the leader of something, how is it scapegoating to be expected to take responsibility for the prolonged failure of the thing you are in charge of.
