If OHL manager doesn't want him, pay him off.  If he does then the split of wages is pretty irrelevant.

So many of our old players are now free agents - shows how little they actually want to play football / how much we were paying them.

If we squared him up now, he could go to any of the countries the windows are currently still open but doesn't have sign before those windows shut.

It's as though they saw other PL clubs acquiring affiliate clubs, thought "we'd better do the same", bought Leuven and then just "right, that's that ticked off" and just left it. There doesn't seem to be even a hint of an overall strategy.

 

It's actually laughable that they can't make this happen. Can you imagine Chelsea having this issue with Strasbourg? Or Man City with Girona?

George Hirst probably benefitted both teams as well. But yes, point still stands. King didn't do much at OHL and other loanees also largely flopped. Opoku was probably the only one to make some impact.

Yes, but my initial point was picking out players that benefitted both parties, Hirst didn't benefit OHL if he was largely crap there.

Edit: see posts below, apparently you have to be out of contract before the window closes to sign and register for someone else. TIL. Leaving my original post for visibility / context. 

 

To be honest, if there's any truth in it, whoever leaked (probably his agent) the other day that we'll mutually terminate his contract didn't exactly do us any favours in getting a fee. 

 

Just be a bunch of clubs now waiting around to get him as a free agent. Wouldn't shock me at all if he goes to West Ham that way and that's exactly why the deal fell through. 

 

He and his agent have possibly agreed to take a signing fee less than whatever transfer fee they were going to have to play Leicester.

Not sure that is how it works is it? There have been several players I've noticed who have had their deals terminated post window (Docherty at Charlton for one, Jackson at Lincoln another), and I'm sure they will be signing for new clubs.

I think it depends if he was deregistered as a Leicester player prior to the deadline.

I don't think so. I believe (and I'm happy to be corrected) that there is a rule which states that if a player's contract is cancelled after the transfer window shuts in a given country, he cannot sign for another club in that country until the registration period opens again in the next transfer window.

I think it applies across countries—ie, even if we terminated his contract today, Faes would have to wait until January to sign for a club in any country where the window has already shut. It's to prevent buying clubs from getting around the rules by gambling on a player becoming a free agent after the window shuts.

His contract termination would have had to have happened before the transfer window closed, for him to be able to sign for any club, outside of their transfer window.

He would be able to sign for any club that's window is still open, of course.

 

Essentially, only option is that his contract is terminated now, meaning he could only move to a country who's window is still open.

• If a player’s contract naturally expired before the end of the transfer window, they can generally be registered by a new club after the window has closed.
• If the player and club mutually agreed to terminate the contract before the window closed, the player can also generally sign and be registered after the deadline.
• If the player’s club unilaterally terminates their contract after the window has closed, FIFA’s rules provide a potential exception allowing the player to be registered outside the transfer window—particularly where the club terminated the contract without just cause.
