Toxic Fans Going to Games - Stay at Home

Fans booing the players/manager at the end of games has been one of the few examples of accountability around the club in recent years. I’m glad some supporters are holding an expectation of a standard when so many others have completely lost theirs.

More recently, I’ve come to wonder what’s the issue with booing? It’s not like you’re being offensive, you’re ensuring that what you’re seeing isn’t good enough? I don’t get this desire for eternal happy clapping and overzealous support of something that gives you nothing back……. You would understand it, if this was 20 years ago, when we were a modest midlands club with some success, but following the recent success and the near £600 off million plus the club has seen come through the books…. You would think those attitudes would change…..

 

Are some fans genuinely not embarrassed to wear the shirt? We’re shambolic, be club is currently an embarrassment to the city, which says a lot as it’s a shit hole…… us the Tigers and the cricket are the heartbeat of the city, and currently, we’re a disgrace…. And none of it is natural, it’s all a result of negligence, that same negligence that’s allowed this vile culture to fester, the same negligence that’s hired a manager no one wanted, and everyone saw what was coming…… 

 

The animosity should continue until KP and Rudkin have long gone.

Look it's genuinely insane that we're still seeing posts like this, but I will give the OP one thing, and that's singing 'we lost last week and we lost today' when 1 nil up in the 30th minute is highly jarring.

I reckon that gets so many airings at aways largely down to us having such a thin songbook right now.

Possibly but so many gleefully love jumping into that - there’s gallows humour and then there’s this horrible overly defeatist wheeeeey we’re shit culture, yet there is no desire to *do* anything about it.

It's in the name supporter, it's as simple as that. If you go to the games you have a job to do for 90 minutes, support. Chant against the board or the owners as much as you like, and say what you like away from the games nobody cares.

 

If you can't manage it then treat yourself, and stay away. 

 

I've managed it because I can't give any backing to King Power or John Rudkin, I also couldn't stand to be around the negative morons in the stands. 

 

Destroying what little confidence the players and manager have left is self sabotage, whether they are crap or not.

Was in the stands yesterday for my first away game in a while, the people behind me blaring out “Leicester are going down with Russell Martin” every five minutes, or the “we lost last week, we lost today” chant, and Reid, Thomas, Watson and Burns getting abuse every time they touched the ball.

 

Ok look for something to moan about, fair enough. Have a bit of frustration, fair enough,  but deliberately creating a miserable atmosphere for the people around you is just pathetic.

It’s not booing everyone btw. Notably the last 3-4 players off the pitch were the  academy boys who got a universal round of applause. But I hope the likes of Riis and Lundstram realise that the boos aren’t aimed at them but rather years and years of mismanagement by the hierarchy culminating in the appointment of such a divisive manager, when really they needed to appoint someone who could bring everyone together.

 

 

 

I’m not having a go or being clever, but which players were you booing yesterday ( or if you weren’t then who do you think the crowd were booing?).

I also hope the young players and JL and Riis don’t think they were being booed, but I doubt it. If we now have a group who are trying for team, then surely each player’s probable initial reaction is to think all the team are being booed?  I would if I was playing.

I wasn’t booing anyone, though like everyone I was becoming immensely frustrated with the lack of cutting edge in front of goal and how we played ourselves into trouble by giving the ball away in stupid places / putting ourselves under pressure.
 

There was the odd boo for Faes and BCDR, but you’re right I think it may now just be about the situation and frustration with the tactics. What I like now is that you can see that the players are really trying on the field but also trying to get some sort of bond between them and the fans. Some of the academy lads have it already, but at the end of the game when the new guys were clapping the fans they were being met with boos.

Am I reading this right?  Are we not allowed as paying supporters for decades to criticise the club because we’ve had some success?  Am I not allowed to tell RM that his football is shit when it’s a fact that his football is indeed shit?  Can I not ask where top is when he’s no where to be seen?  Can I not boo a centre back who’s been shot for 4 seasons and wants to leave?  The hierarchy have taken this club from top 5 in the prem, winning the fa cup and playing in Europe to possibly going into administration and league 2 football within 5 seasons and we’re not allowed to question and criticise???

A toxic atmosphere, however, may speed up necessary actions such as:

 

- the manager leaving

- certain players leaving

- the owner leaving

The priority is change. Whether that’s through boycotting or abuse, demanding change is essential.
 

There’s no way you genuinely believe we’re a crap team because of a lack of support. So why are you saying all this?

 

I suspect it’s because you’re tied to an archaic perception of what football support should be, based on a time when you were supporting local people who you could potentially have some connection to. It’s so, so outdated. None of these people have earned our support, and they clearly don’t value it. We tried it your way - and were met with nothing positive. Just disrespect, 3 relegations and the humiliation of much of our fanbase thinking it’s ok.

 

That latter point, in itself, is a good enough reason to shout abuse. Every player, every media outlet, every city, town and fanbase in the country should know that we are big club massively underachieving, that our fans have too much pride to respect this team.

 

Otherwise we’ll be defined by that gif of the old bag dancing around with a smile on her face after our relegation, so unbothered because she’s looking forward to scoffing an entire family bucket of chicken from KFC for tea. That’s what I think of when I think of our club now.

If you’re going to matches then demand standards I say. When we’re toiling in League One booing isn’t just a right, it’s a duty.

Getting sick of people putting words in my mouth on this forum. I have NOT said or implied we are in this position due to the fans. I have just said that in my opinion, if we want to actually win games, then booing players before, and during a match will not help them to play better. Thats an absolute fact. If it was a beneficial tool, parents would be encouraged to boo their own kids when then play badly during the grassroots matches that are played over weekends. I actually want us to win games and get promotion irrespective of my thoughts about the owner and Rudkin.
