90 point target

It’s simply not achievable under Bruss ,  we will draw too many games as his sides historically leak goals. if you look at our 3 draws so far two have been surrendered from winning positions having been unable to score a second and one was because we had Reid up front!. Multiply this throughout the season and  it’s mid table at best. Find a way to finish teams off then maybe a play off place.

Unless we are going to start scoring 3 goals a game we will end mid table. To do this we need some of the midfield players to massively over index their current stats. Either that or Chaplin / Burns to start either playing or providing some level of output.

After 7 games we’re averaging 1.28

 

With 39 games remaining we now need 2.07. 

At Southampton he averaged 1.58 ppg

If you can't keep a 1-0 lead against 10 men how are you gonna amass that many points. You can have as much possession and pass completion as you want but at the end of the day only one stat matters. The SCORE 

New club anthem should contain a repetition of "we only play one way"

 

My personal opinion is Russel Martin cannot adapt his game plan in any circumstance. Totally predictable for the whole game.

It was a complete waste of time and money even inviting him for an interview let alone believing he would be able to make us good enough for even the play off places. 

There is not one ounce of football brain matter in the entire decision making chain of command, in fact the links are not even connected.

12 shots from 101 passes just shows how easy we are to play through. That is horrifying. A shot for every 8.5 passes is almost laughable. 

 

Wait for the mistake and pounce. It's so straightforward.

 

Both sides making 25 clearances is horrendous too given the disparity in possession.

We've won five league games in 2026. We lost the following game on four out of the five occasions - the one we didn't was Notts County after Blackburn, which I think is generous to even include really, was essentially a friendly.

 

Every single time we've won recently it's been a false dawn.

There’s a side point here. 
 

Aside from the fact that 90 points is completely unrealistic based on all the evidence, and 60 and mid-table is the ceiling really, this 90 points is apparently the target and the aspiration.

 

So essentially, given our previous worst finish was winning this league in our only previous appearance in it, with 96 points, this is the club openly aspiring for our worst ever season in our history!

 

The only thing more tragic than that is the fact we can all openly see that is a completely unrealistic target in the first place!

I think on day one of the campaign the target would be 90 points as that would almost guarantee your auto's. Be a bit weird to set a target less than that. Given what has unravelled in the first handful of games is that the target is now unrealistic if we keep churning out the same performances.

Our board are clueless in the extreme, they don't even do their research on the points total required for automatic promotion safe bet would be 92 points plus.., whereas we fans suffer the consequences from their stupidity.

Yeah I agree with all that. We probably already need to look at 75 which was a play off place last year. Even that would require a decent upturn in form though.

 

I was more just questioning that the pre-season ambition being 90 would make it out worst ever season. I actually think it’s unintentional as I can’t imagine anyone at the club (and I include Rudkin who was around then) even knows we got 96 points in 2008/09.
