It won't be for a while yet unless it's heavy defeat after heavy defeat. McCarron clearly stated that dominating possession eventually leads to better results, which means they will give it time.

We’ve had heavy defeat after heavy defeat, this won’t even trigger it.

I want him to go as much as the rest of you, but I can't see it until at the earliest mid-January; the board will drag their feet even more than they normally do given the club is up for sale. Many of them are I am sure are secretly happy that Martin is receiving the fan's ire as opposed to them. And sacking him now would be underline they've got the appointment and much of the transfer business wrong.

Quick AI search:

Dave Challinor implements a highly purposeful, possession-oriented tactical philosophy that typically dominates the ball. During his highly successful tenure with Stockport County, his teams averaged 57% possession. [1, 2]
Rather than keeping the ball purely for defensive safety, Challinor uses possession aggressively to pin opponents back, squeeze the lines with a high defensive block, and sustain attacks in the opposition half. [1, 2]

Core Tactical & Possession Profile
  • Average Possession: 57% (documented during his title-winning campaign with Stockport County).
  • Preferred Formations: Fluid structures, most frequently utilizing a 3-4-2-1, 3-5-2, or a flexible 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 depending on recruitment and squad depth.

This would seem to align well with the direction the board has determined is the way they want to play football according to McCarron. Who knows whether Challinor would be any more successful than Martin, but right now we do not look like promotion prospects at all.

The club know how unpopular his appointment is / was with the supporters. They appointed him against their explicit wishes.

They won't want to be proven wrong and made to look like the woefully inept, negligent losers that they are. Especially against a group for which they seemingly hold so much disdain - their own fans.

Expect them to double down. This bloke isn't going anywhere soon.

He won’t turn this around

We won’t get promoted

He’s not pragmatic

We may well go down

Exactly. It's a trait of the very rich and those in power etc to double down on mistakes rather than admit being wrong.

And those in charge have been doubling down on this style of football for some time now.

What really winds me up is the feeling that from the top of the club , and the wider world of punditry etc is that if you haven't been professionally involved in the game you're wrong and this style is actually the best.

As fans we've seen it on the pitch - the only place that counts - for years now , slow , ponderous , not getting shots away until the opposition have made it back to full their box with 10 men , even Enzo when he was winning got the criticism.

But what do we know ?

Could be that he actually wants the sack.  A final pay out before offering his 'expert' opinion as a pundit.  For that reason, when the point comes when the season is a write off we should make him stay on til the end.

After the next 5 games that he has apparently been granted, we will have wasted nearly a third of the season.

He must have been given a high bar of reaching promotion and a low bar of surviving  relegation. I can see us barely surviving by the end of the season and him getting the boot then. Really Sucks how low we have fallen. With each season we are fading away as a relevant football club

Honestly I think the social media / back office team are just completely oblivious?

Couldn't resist telling them that I had a terrible experience due to the product on the pitch. What else can you say. If they want feedback then I'm happy to share.

I just cannot see him turning this around, he seems completely inflexible and will choose to die on his hill of possession football.

I predict he goes after the Doncaster debacle.

If we lose that (let alone in the same manner as we did against Oxford and Peterboro'), then thee is no option but to get rid!

Can't see current owners sacking him whilst club still up for Sale. Compensation payment will eat in to their money.

Not a chance, we'll be bottom and adrift if he is still manager in January.

Each win resets the timer and buys a few weeks of reprieve. So if he gets a win every once in a while amidst the draws and losses, he stays. 2-3 losses in a row and he’s gone. Worst case scenario is he keeps getting draws and the occasional win between the losses. It will be ‘coming together’ all season and we’ll be grateful for 13th at the end before we ‘go again’ next season.

Should have said 2-3 more losses in a row from here, after the Peterborough match.

Problem if we don't get promoted this season, "going again" genuinely might not be an option
