The Bigman Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 Leicester City have today confirmed that Rob Kelly will take over as manager until the end of the season with Mike Stowell as his assistant. The 41-year-old assumed the role of caretaker boss following the departure of Craig Levein last month. And he has since guided the Foxes out of the Championship relegation zone with three successive victories over QPR, Wolves and most recently Brighton on Saturday. The board felt it appropriate to appoint Kelly and Stowell on a permanent basis after the team's rich vein of form on the field of play. Chairman Jim McCahill said: "I am delighted to confirm that Rob Kelly will be manager until the end of the season. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rob and Mike for their work to date and wish them well for the rest of the season." Chief Executive Tim Davies added: "Great credit should go to Rob and Mike Stowell. They have done so well for us in a short space of time and nine points out of nine is a great achievement. "Rob was always one of our options and this appointment is justification for all the hard work that he and Mike have put in. "There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the position but I feel as though we have gone about our business in the right way. "We have now got 13 games to secure our Championship status and we are certainly on the right track and I know the players are fully behind Rob and Mike. "The supporters have been tremendous during this difficult time and it would be fantastic to see a big crowd for the East Midlands derby." Meanwhile, Kelly himself admitted to being "flattered" after being handed the reins. "I am flattered but I will quickly get over those selfish thoughts," said the former Foxes midfielder. "I am delighted to have been given the opportunity, particularly at a club like this, but you quickly get past that. "The decision now allows everyone to settle down and focus on what is really important - and that's the next 13 games. "Our game against Derby tomorrow night is all that is occupying my mind now. "The whole situation has galvanised everyone and the supporters have had a major role to play. "The home game against Wolves was the noisiest I can remember the stadium for a long time and hopefully the fans can generate that same sort of atmosphere against Derby." From OS

Katy Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 Brilliant! This is the news ive been waiting for for the past few weeks
Leicester Rule! Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 Kelly's heroes! The chairman has spoke!!
Wycombe Fox Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 That'll do for me - three wins on the bounce and managerial stability 'til the end of the season at least. Come on you Blue Boys!
Mark Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 Pleased it's Kelly and not the likes of Cotterill or Holloway.. but i think we should have waited until after tomorrow night. Kelly's been lucky, in the fact he's had Weso available to him and he's featured in all the games we've won. He took charge vs Southampton without Weso, we was pretty awful and ended up losing against a team in free fall. Of course he'd hardly been in charge for more than a few days, but still, Weso's out for the season now, it's a little concerning.

Leicfox Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 Did Barber just say there will be money availible ??

FNQ Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 "Winning again, with Kelly and Stowell, winning again..."
Ric Flair Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 Pleased it's Kelly and not the likes of Cotterill or Holloway.. but i think we should have waited until after tomorrow night. Of course he'd hardly been in charge for more than a few days, but still, Weso's out for the season now, it's a little concerning. From the reaction of the players they seem well pleased with the decision and it should fire them up even more. Kelly seems to have that thing about him where he's constantly refusing to take his foot off the pedal and knows what's got to be done, etc. Something Levein didn't have. The next 2 games are paramount in terms of what Kelly could do with this club, but i'd never have thought we'd win the previous 3 so who knows what could happen. Your right about Weso being the mani reason we've won the past 3 games but let's not forget the likes of Matty Fryatt who will score given the chance and it's goals that win matches.
Bert Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 It will be interesting to see the player's reactions to this, no doubt it will all be positive. Anyone think loan signings will be made??
Katy Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 Did Barber just say there will be money availible ?? Yes. theyve just said it on SSN as well
