MC Prussian Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 I have mixed feelings. The constant whistling is destroying a proper game flow and there have already been some dubious red cards (talking about the Spain vs. Ukraine game, especially). Am I wrong or is the majority of those men in black simply unable to guide a match accordingly? Or is it just because the FIFA wants to implement newer, tougher rules and reglementations (in order to destroy the game).
Jay Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 I think most have them have done really well to be fair and got almost all of the important decisions spot on!! However I did think the Ref for England Paraguay was the worst I have seen so far
Bert Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 Crap. Too many inconsistencies. I know it's a hard job, but at the end of the day, they're supposed to be professionals, if i was inconsistent in ym job, i'd be sacked.
Benji Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 First tournament i've ever seen where no back-chat is allowed, FIFa might FINALLY be trying to cut it out of football kicking the ball away/time wasting etc all punished If only these rules and attitudes were taken throughout english football it would make football such a more pleasant contest
macbeth Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 reffing top class. 1 or 2 dodgy offsides but over all pretty good
Tommeh Posted 17 June 2006 Posted 17 June 2006 i cant believe how many bookings there has been on average there has been 4 or 5 bookings a game. England v paraguay ref was awful
shen Posted 17 June 2006 Posted 17 June 2006 Some refs have been absolutely woeful. France v. Switzerland is the worst ref performance I've seen in international football since a FC Copenhagen - Hamburger SV game last year. He booked a player for NOT kicking the ball out of play for fair play, yet Henry was outside the pitch!! He spent 30-40 secs on dangerous free kicks looking at all the duels in the box before starting play again. Zidane got booked for taking an indirect free kick too quickly. A Swiss player was booked because Makelele shot the ball at him straight after he was fouled. The Swiss player didn't even get the time to move away! etc. etc.
Head Honcho Posted 18 June 2006 Posted 18 June 2006 reffing top class. 1 or 2 dodgy offsides but over all pretty good Spot on
Matt Posted 18 June 2006 Posted 18 June 2006 The Yellow Cards seems to be constantly in there hand, they don't seem to put it away, every tackle the ref runs up before the TV Camara gets chance to view the ref he's had his card out and the players name is in the book. Get Pier Luigi out of retirement is all I can say... He is the only ref I have respect for and the only ref I will and am happy to admit I like, Just hope he's got someone to fill his boots
Daggers Posted 18 June 2006 Posted 18 June 2006 I think most have them have done really well to be fair and got almost all of the important decisions spot on!! However I did think the Ref for England Paraguay was the worst I have seen so far reffing top class. 1 or 2 dodgy offsides but over all pretty good 80-20. 80% good to ok, 20% utterly dire. world cup referees are exellent so far Yup -
filbertway Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 I think the linesmen have been good, they've made alot of correct decision in very tight calls Some of the referees are a bit over the top, but nothing I can complain at.
Nationwider Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 Marcus Merk was dreadful in the Brazil-Australia game. It was one of those performances when a ref either has too much respect for the supposed favourites and subconsciously protects them at every opportunity, or Nike and Sepp slipped him a few Euros to ensure the sponsors are happy with Brazil getting through to the final stages.
macbeth Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 i dont like that sort of rams horn design on their shirts; it makes them look in league with the devil
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 Marcus Merk was dreadful in the Brazil-Australia game. Definitely. It was a horrible performance and you wonder how many of those little niggly decisions he always gave in Brazil's favour would have changed the outcome of the result had he split them evenly between the two sides?

MC Prussian Posted 19 June 2006 Author Posted 19 June 2006 I should do a parody on the FIFA, starring Sepp "The Man with many plans" Blatter... I quite like that idea. Sepp has a very interesting job. Playing football... Playing Prince Charming... Playing with the trophy (everyday in Sepp's lovely office)... Playing with the media... Playing the football diva... Playing grim... Playing the devil's advocate... Which means playing himself... Jawoll... Mein Führer!!! Heil Blatter!!! The movie will be called "The Man With A Thousand Faces"
BartonFox Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 Marcus Merk was dreadful in the Brazil-Australia game. It was one of those performances when a ref either has too much respect for the supposed favourites and subconsciously protects them at every opportunity, or Nike and Sepp slipped him a few Euros to ensure the sponsors are happy with Brazil getting through to the final stages. 100% agree, he was a disgrace it was so obvious, in fact I'd go as far as calling it cheating. I hate Harry Kewell with a passion but FIFA should not be taking him to task over insulting the referee because Merk played favourite to Brazil all day. It sickens me how 2 pivotal games this weekend were ruined by referee's protecting the 'big nations'. As for Sepp Blatter I hope Franz Beckenbuar or Michel Platini stand against him next year when he is up for re-election, the man is an vile human being who has made a fortune out of the game and makes a mockery of all the values he allegedlly stands for.
Tommeh Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 I think there is too much protection on the well- known players eg. Figo and Ronaldo v Angola, the slightest touch the ref blows up and books the Africans. Same with Totti v Ghana, Nedved v Ghana and holland and Argentina players v Ivory Coast, i Just don't think it's fair at times.
Thracian Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 I hope the Togo ref can examine the tape of his latest game with a clear conscience. It would be interesting to hear his reasons for denying what appeared to be a blatant penalty.
The People's Hero Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 I hope the Togo ref can examine the tape of his latest game with a clear conscience. It would be interesting to hear his reasons for denying what appeared to be a blatant penalty. Indeed. He had a cracking view of it too.
MC Prussian Posted 19 June 2006 Author Posted 19 June 2006 I hope the Togo ref can examine the tape of his latest game with a clear conscience. It would be interesting to hear his reasons for denying what appeared to be a blatant penalty. Yup. Watch the replay. No penalty. Müller pulls his leg back before Adebayor "falls" over it... Correct decision by the referee. Hard to see, though (only from one camera angle).
Ultra Posted 19 June 2006 Posted 19 June 2006 But you would say that, wouldn't you? It looked a nailed-on penalty to me. Was Sepp in the stands, by any chance? Generally I don't think the refs have been too bad, apart from missing goals scored by Argentina and France. Given where the tournament is being played, one would've thought FIFA would have taken steps to have made sure refs could see when the ball has crossed the line..
