Stumbled upon a movie called 'Prospect' on Prime last night.

It's from 2018 and stars Pedro Pascal and a talented young actress, who's name escapes me.

It's a sci-fi flick of a low budget nature. It's about a father and daughter that land on a forest moon to mine for this precious material.

A buncha sh*t happens.

I liked it.

Don't Look Now

I put off watching this movie for so long.

It is beautiful, beautifully tragic in a bleak, foggy and cold Venice – and a study on how a couple copes with grief.

The ending traumatised me as a kid

Just watched the original Rear Window.

Seen it a few times before, but it's class. A lesson in how to make a tense and interesting thriller without resorting to graphic violence and general testosterone driven bravado.

A movie well ahead of its time, if that was released in cinema's tomorrow it would still be an instant hit.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

I love this film. It's "genuine", heartfelt, a time capsule of what late 70ies/early 80ies US high schools looked and felt like.

Hugely influential on pop culture also because of the Valley lingo used (in particular by Sean Penn's character).

Speaking of cast, there's so many actors who later became big. To see Nic Cage, Eric Stoltz, Penn, Reinhold, Forest Whitaker in their younger years...

And then there are Jennifer Jason Leigh and Phoebe Coates and their respective bikini scenes.

Plus, the soundtrack is top-notch. Small cameo by Nancy Wilson (Heart), Cameron Crowe's girlfriend at the time.

Marty Supreme is an amazing experience, hands down the best film I've seen in years.

I'm trying to get caught up on all the top films from last year. Seen One Battle, Sinners and Train Dreams so far and of course, need to see that one!

Just watching Close Encounters (again) and the thing that occurs to me is that it just wouldn't work nowadays.

Instead of chasing UFOs all over the world, it would be just using the internet from one office and done in 15 mins.

I've just watched Mannequin. I've obviously heard of the film before and had a decent idea of the plot. It's so stupid but oddly very watchable.

I think I can say, unequivocally one of the worst films I've ever seen. I mean, just the entire story concept, it's something a 6 year old would come up with and yet this is quite clearly a film for adults.

It's clearly a very kitsch and clumsy reworking of elements of Ovid's narrative poem Metamorphoses, in which Pygmalion falls in love with his own sculpture, which he named Galatea, and then married after his wish that she be brought to life was granted by Aphrodite. It's silly, but then 80s movies were mostly silly.

Are there others who are kind of disappointed in Wes Anderson?

I love his earlier movies (up until Life Aquatic), but in recent years, his trademark style has become a bit stale for my liking. He relies too much on the same recipe these days.

Asteroid City was probably the first Wes Anderson movie that made me fall asleep.

A Quiet Place in the Country.

Big fan of Franco Nero and Vanessa Redgrave (back then, lovers – today, they are still married).

Redgrave is praised in the extras as one of the nicest people around on a film set.

Been delving into Italian giallo movies (essentially, erotic thrillers) lately, such as Torso or Deep Red.

It was discussed here recently.

I love his movies, but the last few haven't done much for me.

Still need to see The Phoenician Scheme. Which goes to show how my feelings toward him have changed, because I wouldn't normally have waited this long.

Can't be stressed enough.

Just thought about his output again after seeing that new Criterion Collection boxset. That's what – about ten times the same movie?

I have much more respect for directors who dare to test their limits and are interested in different genres.

Interestingly enough, his namesake P.T. Anderson is another moviemaker who has somewhat lost his mojo. The earlier films are exceptional (Hard Eight, Boogie Nights. Magnolia, There Will Be Blood – I'd even include Punch-Drunk Love in that list).

Past ten years? Yuck.

Double billed Raiders and Last Crusade the other day. No modern blockbusters really come close. The truck and tank battles in those films are as good as it gets, all practically done with no poxy cgi used. Its a shame that only Tom Cruise is interested in making films that way anymore, its a million times better.

Dark Star.

Hippie truckers in space. lol

For the time and the budget, pretty impressive.

You can see the influence chain: Kubrick's 2001, then Lucas' THX 1138, then Dark Star, followed by Star Wars – and Red Dwarf.

Part of me wishes John Carpenter would do a fleshed-out remake, approx 90 minutes long.

There‘s still time.

Just returned from watching 28 Years Later The Bond Temple, I enjoyed and a good addition to the franchise that takes the story down a different path. In terms of topic in hand focuses on a certain cult or religion rather than just the infected. The film kind touches on what Aaron Taylor Johnson's character focuses on in the last movie where he mentioned there's some "strange people" still on the mainland other than the infected. Of course this time round it's not just about surviving from the infected but from cult groups, so people may feel this storyline takes it away from infected storyline and may not like it, whilst I feel great addition to the story and can really showcase how even the survivors can just be as dangerous. Some really good performances throughout from everybody involved. I think it helped filming this movie back to back as certainly goes from where the last movie left off. I kind of wished the next film was filmed like wise, I just hope it doesn't lose the flow with their being a year gap in filming.

The Life of Chuck

I was not expecting what I saw. So many things and questions. Never wanted to watch a movie again immediately after seeing it, but I'll give it some time before I do.

Was also shocked when I saw who the actors were that played Chuck's grandparents.
