Batman vs. Superman aka the perils of squeezing at least 2 films' worth of storyline into a single movie.

Cool fights, cool sfx, cool bat-gadgets, but absolutely no reason to care about any of the characters' motivations.  Feels like it's been rushed out to play catch-up with Marvel when they'd have been better off releasing at least one other film first to give them time to develop the characters.

I refuse to believe that Batman vs Superman is far, far worse (when comparing avg ratings on metacritic) than Superman Returns, which imo was abysmal.

Man of Steel was far better than that garbage, yet critics will lead you to believe that Returns is great, with it all heading downhill from there.

I'll make my own judgement later this week but I'll go in with lesser expectations anyway and will probably come out pleasantly surprised once more.

It's not terrible; it has a decent cast who for the most part deliver their lines as well as can be expected but it rushes through story development despite its long running time and despite my 16 year old cousin's complaints at the lack of fight scenes resulting from what he saw to be an emphasis on boring dialogue.  You know there's a balance issue when a film has simultaneously too much and not enough talk.  It doesn't help either that the film takes up some of its chat time asking characters to deliver not particularly sly self-congratulatory nods and winks to the movie you're currently watching.

Then there's the characters themselves.  Without getting too deeply into it I felt that Jesse Eisenberg did a great job of playing Jesse Eisenberg from that film with Jesse Eisenberg in it and I may even be calling it his best adaptation of Jesse Eisenberg yet were he playing Jesse Eisenberg, megalomaniacal genius in an entirely new film with original characters, but as the established character of Lex Luthor he completely misses in my opinion.  That said, given events in the film I give him the benefit of the doubt as an actor and put it down to him doing a really good job of fulfilling what the director asked of him.  Likewise I didn't think Ben Affleck was Bruce Wayney enough when doing scenes as Bruce Wayne, but again it felt to me like more of a directorial cock up than anything that the actor did particularly wrong.

All in all I'd say that given the sheer amount of time it lets you spend watching it wistfully thinking about how "yeah this is kinda cool but it could be so much cooler" I wouldn't bother spending money to see it at the cinema, just wait for the DVD, but if you absolutely insist on being an early adopter save yourself the extra quid of seeing it in 3D as it adds absolutely nothing to the experience.

Saw two films this weekend.

Batman vs Superman - ****ing hell, what an absolute shambles.

Deadpool - Reasonable. Not worthy of the hype but a good laugh at times. The baddy is horrendous.

That last sentence. 100% agree.

Was there anything even in 3D after the first 5 minutes?

16/100- A Millions Way to Die in Wild West. 7/10-  Far more enjoyable than expected considering all slatings the film have got off IMDB snobs. Seth MacFarlane was okay in his first lead role but I liked the concept of how there are literally millions different way to die in Wild West and I thought that could have been explored bit more. Jamie Foxx cameo made the film for me!

Film critics, much like gaming critics, are fast becoming a very unreliable source of opinion imo.  I thought BvS was a very good film, much better than the reviews, critics, would suggest.  Sure, it has some moments where things could be better, Force Awakens had enough of those as well (didn't hurt the reviews there though did it?), but instead of going with it and accepting that, the film gets slammed for it.  A totally unjust and inaccurate portrayal of what the film is about.

What do people expect out of a superhero/fantasy movie?  Seriously?  Going in with less humour and a more serious tone to it makes a refreshing change from the Marvel films - long may this continue into the next series of films.

Went to see Midnight Special last night. Amazing. Jeff Nichols is the best American filmmaker right now imo.

I don't know when, but it'll probably be out soon in select theaters - probably in London.

I don't think anybody's levelled that particular complaint at the film.  On the contrary I was quite distracted by the use of lines which in effect were fourth wall breaking jokes (this isn't a Deadpool flick).  Lots to like but in order to nail the serious tone you can't acknowledge the audience and you definitely can't put out a film which feels like several scenes are missing, fracturing the experience.  Then of course there's the characterisation issues which I mentioned on a previous page.

Also:

Batman straight up killing bad guys - if the director has to come out afterwards and explain the character development that led to him deciding to discard his golden rule and point to the one singular line in the film which apparently 'explains' it then that only supports the idea that he's not put enough scenes in (or that he wasn't thinking about it during filming).

Lastly you can't have Superman be completely crippled by the presence of a piece of Kryptonite in one scene then later on show him flying a considerable distance carrying the same crippling chunk of green rock and using what appears to be most of his strength to attack with it.  You just can't.

i have  been breaking my no reading of spoilers rule for BVS, as i was  planning to see   it. is it a decent spectacle  at the  cinema? despite the stuff  mentioned in  spoilers?

Thought it was great, personally!

Really uplifting and surprisingly emotional in places. Excellent soundtrack to boot.

I only went because I wasn't paying, was planning on waiting for the DVD release otherwise.  Had I paid I'd feel a little ripped off I reckon.

That said the answer to your question is probably yes if my criticisms still leave you considering it.  As an action movie it does its job well and I can see this film being a big hit with those new to the characters.  If you're already a big fan of Batman and Supes give it a miss for now because it will probably upset you, otherwise my only advice is don't do 3D and have fun!

Then again does it matter what I say at all?  It's Batman vs Superman.  No matter what I say or how bad the reviews are there's always going to be something tugging at your mind to find out what happens when 2 well-known beloved characters are pitched against each other.  Good move by the studio; even if it was complete shit it would still become one of the most successful films to date purely because of the title.

I can understand people being upset with the way Superman is being handled since Man Of Steel but this isn't the 70s/80s anymore and people expect more of the CGI/action than in-depth conversations between characters.

However, I think the new take on Batman is done very well in this new film.  The scene in the warehouse was particularly well done, despite how violent it was.  I enjoyed Nolan's interpretation of Batman massively but this new direction on the character is just as good but in a different way.

The film has to be judged on its own merits, as soon as you start making comparisons with previous iterations and/or the Marvel films, it's very easy to become over critical imo.

It is on Putlocker but says it is poor quality.

In the synopsis it says the war between them because of the damage done by Superman in his fight against Zog.

I can understand that. There were a lot of buildings destroyed in that film. But I cannot imagine him being bitter as he has always had a goody goody image.

I'll have a look on Kodi it is late now.

Just watched it. Enjoyed  it. Yes their portrayal was out of character but it was done well. Someone mentioned the humour. Only one or two lines stood out. Started with 'Is she with you?'

Like I said aove I can understand why people would go off Superman but I always thought those two were friends. THe characters and the destruction they do have changed  since I was a kid in the 60's when i mostly read the comics.

As an action film it was done well and the build up was good but I have always been a fan of superhero films even the duff Superman ones.
