Jay Posted 14 December 2006 Posted 14 December 2006 I'm standing by the George Baker Selection - Little Green Bag as number one, but I'd like to take the opportunity to nominate Rancid - Sidekick as a close second. oooh a great choice!!!
Finnegan Posted 14 December 2006 Posted 14 December 2006 Some stunning bassists in that era of punk. Like 'em or loathe 'em, Anti Flag's Chris Barker's a great example.
Jordan Posted 15 December 2006 Posted 15 December 2006 Best bassline is in the opening track of Scientist's phenomenal dub masterpiece "Scientist Wins The World Cup." I'm not sure what the track was originally called but it's now known as "Ten Dangerous Matches #1" after the album was re-released. Best rock bassline is Dead Kennedys - "Holiday in Cambodia"
Smudge Posted 18 December 2006 Posted 18 December 2006 Love Town - Peter Gabriel.......... Not the "best ever" but is a test song of mine for auditiioning speakers.
Flynny Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 Some of my faves are: The National Anthem - Radiohead That one's brilliant. The version on the live album with distortion is even better. As for Muse basslines, the Plug in Baby one is probably best just because of the bounce and zip it gives. It tends to get overlooked because the guitar riff is so good, but the bass is definately great too.

Libertine Posted 20 December 2006 Author Posted 20 December 2006 Another 'Head one I love is Exit Music. Just for the fuzzy tone of it. Absolutely amazing. When that kicks in my screen is covered not long after.
Nationwider Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 LFO by LFO Extremely speaker-blowing low frequency oscillation.

When that kicks in my screen is covered not long after. It's pretty excellent, yeah. The best performance of that song ever is here, and I say that having seen quite a few versions. Bass seems a tad louder on it, too.
The People's Hero Posted 21 December 2006 Posted 21 December 2006 I find it amusing to see Louis Walsh speculating about the BEST bassline ever...
Flynny Posted 21 December 2006 Posted 21 December 2006 I find it amusing to see Louis Walsh speculating about the BEST bassline ever... Har-de-Har! Good one! It's just a nickname. (Thank god!)
The People's Hero Posted 22 December 2006 Posted 22 December 2006 Har-de-Har! Good one! It's just a nickname. (Thank god!) And a good one at that!
Simon Posted 25 December 2006 Posted 25 December 2006 White, Discussion- Live (Pat Dahlheimer is a massively underrated bassist) All Around The World- RHCP I'll also second Bullet with Butterfly Wings- bassline and main guitar riff are two of my forever faves
Cat Burger Posted 27 December 2006 Posted 27 December 2006 I'm a fan of the bassline in 'Through the Darkness' by Tiger Army.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 I rather like: Stranglers - Princess Of The Streets Discharge - Ain't No Feeble Bastard Stranglers - Five Minutes Actually most early stuff by The Stranglers qualifies Hey are you forgetting 'Peaches' by The Stanglers !!! Love lots of bass in Reggae music and Dub. Apparently Level 42 and of course RHCP have some good bass lines. Also the bass riff of John Entwistle of The Who in My Generation.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 LFO by LFO Extremely speaker-blowing low frequency oscillation. Is that the old Acid House track ?? That takes me back !!
