Ric Flair Posted 27 March 2007 Share Posted 27 March 2007 Deano msut have had a few, we scored quite a few goals consisting of walker>>>deane>>>player running in behind defence. According to the stats, he only got 2 assists all season!

Ric Flair Posted 27 March 2007 Share Posted 27 March 2007 Deane must have got more than 2, i'm sure of it. That's why I don't trust these stats. I've done some digging though and Muzzy was the top assister in the whole of the Premier League in 2003/04.

He might not have been great during the promotion season but he sure was essential in our bid to survive the next! As for someone suggesting Claus Jensen, there's hardly any chance of that happening. He might be injury prone but he's international class when fit and besides in these final years of his careers he'll either wish to finish on a high or finish gently back in Denmark. Monk Posted 27 March 2007 Share Posted 27 March 2007 OK, scenario 1. We sign Todorov. What type of player will best complement this best? Yes we do need a good attacking midfielder, but most of all we need a playmaker.
escape2victory Posted 27 March 2007 Share Posted 27 March 2007 Year ok suppose I may have gone a bit over the top with 20+ assists ! But he was integral to our promotion season and im sure alot of Deane's and Scrowcroft's goals came from corners and free kicks. My main point is that we have yet to replace Izzet and going back further Lennon. Williams tried and failed. Hughes tried and failed. Johnson tried and failed. davieG Posted 27 March 2007 Share Posted 27 March 2007 Correct. Our leading Assister in the 02/03 season was Paul Dickov with 9 and surprisingly Alan Rogers with 8. Izzet did also get 8 in the league. What's interesting is that season, Svetaslov Todorov scored 26 goals and provided 15 assists. 41 goals he was responsible for in 1 season, phenomenal. I'm not sure how they work out assists on the football league website, because we scored 74 goals the season we went up, but only registered 47 assists. I'm aware some goals don't really have an assist as such, but over a third of our goals were scored with no direct assist?. How many assists are the goalkeepers down for, I bet few came direct from them to Dickov or Deane.

Yes he was and I remember that season he got many of those assists from free- kicks and corners. We lack a good dead ball specialist. So many goals can come from set- pieces and with players like Kisnorbo and McAley in the box we should get more. Would be nice to see somebody who can put in a good ball next season. Would help a lot I think.

Bryn Posted 27 March 2007 Share Posted 27 March 2007 Couple of points in reference to some of the stuff said in here. It was the second time we got relegated from the Prem that Muzzy got like 20 assists, and also they love Nalis at Plymouth.

The People's Hero Posted 27 March 2007 Share Posted 27 March 2007 Hammond will get ALL the assists we need next season. It's all about impact, impact, impact, impact. Just ask Thracian (Mr).

Hell No. Does the simple things well and can pass the ball 10 yards acurately (are you watching AJ) but is getting slower with age and isnt a step in the right direction. Ric Flair Posted 28 March 2007 Share Posted 28 March 2007 How many assists are the goalkeepers down for, I bet few came direct from them to Dickov or Deane. According to the dodgy stats from the Football League website it says there weren't any from Ian Walker that season. I can't believe that Deane and Scowcroft together only got 6 assists all season, I recall lots of long balls that were flicked on by either of them two that Dickov or Benjamin rifled home. Couple of points in reference to some of the stuff said in here. It was the second time we got relegated from the Prem that Muzzy got like 20 assists, and also they love Nalis at Plymouth. I've already mentioned that. He was top assister in the whole of the Premiership in 2003/04 under Micky Adams. It wasn't 20 assists, it was 12-14 in the league. Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 March 2007 Share Posted 28 March 2007 Big Trev won us at least 87 penalties by elbowing defenders in the head that year. Oh, Chris Shuker innit.

Ric Flair Posted 29 March 2007 Share Posted 29 March 2007 Off topic slightly, but i'd like to see us sign Carsten Jancker in the summer. The massive centre forward who used to play for Bayern Munich. He's at some crap Austrian club on loan I think? Get him upfront with Hume next season and we'll be laughing, we can even play long ball if Kelly's still here.
