Hopefully Scyld will be out and tell us "Yes" because we have won a trophy, promotion, provided two England Test players and somebody on the verge of hitting the highest ever Test score since his question.

You can ask Scyld yourself he's speaking at the Leicester Cricket society on October 9th 7.30 .Sure his first line will be this is the biggest crowd I've seen at Grace Road everybody else starts with that one

Fantastic day, I was starting to think I might not ever see us back in division 1, after growing up without 2 divisions, but it being the norm for use to challenge and win trophies. Watching the likes of Milns, Mullally, Whittaker, Maddy, Wells etc.

Hopefully win the title next week against Kent, I think there's a bout £15k or so difference in the prize money between 2nd and 1st.

Alfonso got to go down as our best coach since Whitaker? One trophy and a promotion in three years? Some record for a club like ours!

Think we would have got there under Nico don't forget he signed the likes of Patel Scriven Wright etc and was a driving force in signing Rehan from Notts and spotting Hull from Northants.Whittaker was never a coach but granted a fine captain

Of course I meant Birkenshaw but back then the captain was basically the coach. Have seen Birkenshaw down GR a couple of times this season. I hope he’s buzzing today.

Personally don't think we would have, you can cite good players joining but don't forget some of the dross also accumulated under him, also wasn't Hull recommended to us. Thomas also seems to still have good links with Somerset that have benefited us.

Yes Hull was recommended to us but from what I gather there was interest from other clubs and Nico convinced  him to join You say he signed some dross well yes one or two but don't forget he was working with a much reduced budget back then the likes of Davis Griffiths Rhodes about all we could afford

I agree Nico is a great guy, club legend and clearly great at the man management side of things (mostly) but Thomas has taken us to a higher level. If anything we’d stalled a bit under Nico by the time he left.

I fear Nico somewhat lost the plot in later years.

Not heard Titch mentioned much, but he's clearly got something too. Determined to make a new career after his playing one was cut short, he'll have had a big impact on things too!

As a club legend as he is, always a ticking time bomb with him.

His open political stance isn't going to help himself either.

Yeah, I think that's a bit of facade.

I think it's a combination of things. Nico did some great things at the club, but it was also clear that his relationship with Claude wasn't great when he came in as DofC. Recruitment under Claude has been much improved the last couple of years, whether that as been him or the connections that Alfonso has. By all accounts, as well, the regime under Alfonso and James has been less intense and allowed players more autonomy. One of the big issues under Nico was the discipline, with player fall-outs (Carberry) and being docked points for on-field behaviour. We haven't had any of that in the last couple of years. Last mention to Handscomb, who has been brilliant as captain this season.
