Also heard whispers around the ground that Handscombe might not have to count as an overseas next year but don't know how true that is. Would be handy though.

Definitely missed his calmness and would have been a buffer between players and the coach, missed his experience too.

Are we mostly positive about this season?

 

We didn't finish bottom and would have stayed up without the deduction. Got to another one day final. 


T20 was horrific but seem to have given up on that in recent years.

 

I guess the clouds are all the 'fallings out' that have been rumoured. 

 

Personally didn't think we'd get a point so to get 111 (well... more) was pretty impressive lol

A missed opportunity. Glamorgan stayed up comfortably. Handscomb was clearly a huge loss, although Weatherald and Kelly contributed good runs. Ajaz Patel was a total waste as an overseas. The decline of Hull has been sad to witness. Rehan simply hasn't played enough due to IPL and England squad duties. I'd argue he needs a full season playing for us, batting at three and bowling loads of overs. Davey's lack of playing time has been a problem. Eskenazi's second half of the season was pretty awful, as was Tatersall all season. Gumbs has technique issues. Hamza was excellent in the 50 over game, but disappointing in the 4 day games, but has the potential to be a great signing. Rishi's form fell of a cliff from mid summer.

 

Our best player has been Cox, but remarkably we don't seem to want to retain him.

 

So in summary we've had some bad luck and some good moments, but I do think we our create our own problems at times.

Agreed, though my vote goes to Ian Holland. I think he's close to top wicket taker in all three formats, despite having a spell out for the MLS.

There's a good interview here with Pete Handscomb. The reason he missed this season was because of the birth of his daughter and wanting to spend time at home. Unfortunately for us it looks like he's back in the mix for Australian selection, both for their tour of India, but then the Ashes next summer. Hence why he's been selected as captain of the current A tour.

We all know they'll give us just enough points back to keep us down! And lets be honest, with the players we're losing we'd get spanked in Division 1 next year so relegation would not be the end of the world.

He's always around the squad whenever they need someone decent at playing spin

Personally I think it will be all 19 back or nothing. Can’t see how it will be anything else as there is nothing about that in the rules.

The bit that bothers me most is the suspended sentence. It seems unfair to have this hanging over us at the beginning of next season. Surely the system is in place that would penalise any further contravention next season anyway, so what is the point? And what are the terms of that additional deduction? In what circumstances and by whom would this be made?? This just seems utterly vindictive to me.

I actually don't want all the points back there is no financial benefit to being in division 1 over 2 and I think it's better for the rebuild that will happen over the next two years to start in division 2 again. 

 

Also from a supporter perspective games against sides with such obvious gulfs in class especially in the bowling ie Warwickshire are quite boring to watch. 

 

A good result would be the suspended points and 5 grand back.
