Sensational effort from Handscomb to drag us up to 300

Great stuff, he must be relieved after being run out on 99 last game and then stuck on 97* when the last man (Currie) walked out to bat! :o

Class from Handscomb again really nice bloke as well btw.. Interesting to see that Middlesex haven't got any overseas players this season which is a gamble but they still look a strong side

They have to all stay fit though and Roland-Jones/Helm, generally get injuries for them. Higgins was a fantastic signing, he's consistently good with bat and ball, so worth two players. I can't think of another player in county cricket who pulls up the same numbers with bat and ball. Averaging 112 with the bat and 11 wkts at 29 this season

Yep Higgins a fantastic cricketer yet I doubt he will ever get anywhere near the England side

Not a bad side can't see them.bowling many sides out twice but some decent players, you see why they came down though.

Big difference between Div 1 and Div 2 is the pace atracks.

Plus the ability to score quickly enough to pressure the oppo. Not sure they have many gears

Think we will get a comfortable draw here

Agreed. Not scoring fast enough here to force a result, got draw written all over it.

Another game ruined by weather. Anyway, looking forward and changing the subject slightly, what do we think the t20 side will look like this year? We don't really have any natural openers so I'm thinking something like this:-

Handscombe (c)

Patel

Kimber

Hill

Mulder

Cox (wk)

Mike

Travaskis

Ahmed

Scriven

Hull

I'd pick Currie but I think he's away with Scotland.

Budinger will surely open the batting after not featuring yet in the CC. Doubt we’ll play two spinners, though could depend how much they trust Kimber in the shorter format.

Currie not selected by Scotland surprisingly. Much as I love Handscomb not sure he's totally suitable  to T20 time will tell

Handscombe is t20 captain apparently. I think we will play 2 spinners. It seems the norm in t20. You think last season we had 3. Parky, Ackermann and Ahmed

Yeah, that’s true. I guess Hill or Handscome or even Kimber (if not bowling) could take the gloves and Cox drop out. I think he’ll play though. It’s nice there’s options.

I think Rehan will do a lot of shuffling round, depending on how we start games with the bat.

Also not sure if it's just me but there's massive gaps under all of your posts, not sure why, thought i'd mention it though lol

This would be my starting XI for the T20s:

Budinger

Patel

Hill

Kimber

Handscomb (c/wk)

Mulder

Rehan  A

Mike

Trevaskis

Scriven

Currie

While taking a wicket or too, Hull travels a bit too much to make the first XI but could switch with Currie when required.

Swindells as 'next cab' if form or injury necessitates a change to the batting line-up.

Either way, the main thing is no Aaron Lilley!!

I feel like we have good power hitting in the middle/lower in Kimber, Mike and perhaps Trevaskis who I thought was good in the One Day Cup last season with the bat though his T20 record isn't great.

Mulder and Handscomb are solid players in this format though not specialists like some other counties will have recruited.

So I think there is a lot of pressure on Budinger, Patel and Hill at the top of the order if we're to be succesful but they're good players so we have a chance. We probably need all 3 to have their best t20 seasons though.

My other concern would probably be our bowling. I think Ahmed and Trevaskis are solid in the spin department but beyond Mulder we don't have anyone with a good record when it comes to pace. Career t20 economy rates (23 Blast in brackets):

Hull: 9.64 (9.64)

Scriven: 9.22 (9.29)

Salisbury: 9.39 (10.5)

Walker: 9.07 (7 (1 game))

Currie: 8.70 (8.97)

Mike: 10.40 (11.58)

I'd be inclined to go with Currie who has solid experience for his age and Hull who I feel will continue to go from strength to strength with more games. Scrivo unlucky to miss out as I like him. Mike was actually pretty decent for us in his last season but reverted to outrageously expensive last season for Yorkshire so who knows with him but he's a potential fourth pace option.

Budinger

Patel

Hill

Handscomb

Mulder

Kimber

Ahmed

Trevaskis

Mike

Currie

Hull

My gut feel is that we don't have a big enough hitter in the top 5 unless Budinger comes good. Maybe Kimber could move up? Maybe even Mike could bat higher - he can certainly clear the ropes.

Who knows what will happen this season, if lots of players have been watching the IPL and come out looking for 200+ as the par score then it could go either way! I feel like our side looks a bit solid but uninspiring if I'm honest but it's a group of players with the right attitude and work rate so hoping they can show up some other sides whom maybe have more fireworks on paper.

For me, Scriven is one of the first names on the team sheet in all 3 formats. Mike gives a good quick option alongside Mulder and then take your pick between Hull/Salisbury/Currie. I’m probably edging towards Hull. Ahmed and Trevaskis both play.

Id also be tempted to go with a wildcard at the top of the order with 1 of Mike, Kimber or Ahmed who can score quickly and big if they get in alongside a steady head.

My strongest XI would be:

Handscomb

Kimber

Hill

Patel

Mulder

Ahmed

Trevaskis

Cox

Mike

Scriven

Hull

Good options with Budinger and Swindells pushing for places too. Jury is out on Cox too with the bat, Handscomb, Hill and Swindells all more than capable behind the stumps and all better bats which would free up a space for another specialist batsman.
