Smudge Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 How can you miss out Peter Shilton? Most capped English International and a Leicester lad
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 spot on...... Arthur Rowley 'today' would be like Henry for Arsenal!I'm going for walsh for one reason only, he lifted the first cup at wembley as a lcfc player, closely ran by Arthur Rowley and G. Banks who should be OBE Simon Grayson was the first City player to lift a trophy at Wembley... Even though I was too young to ever see him play, I've seen archive footage of Frank Worthington and he seemed genuine class, so can't understand why he isn't in the list I'll probably vote for Rowley, though 253 goals in 303 games? Incredible
The Reverend Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 I do have one eye on voting for Banks. Classic I'd go for Izzet or Walsh. Cant decide who though - probably Muzzy because he was 'my era'. And he was a quality player.
potter3 Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 I don't like these polls. I find that no-one should come close to Arthur Rowley or Arthur Chandler, but with hardly anyone (of today's Leicester fans*) having experienced them, they don't stand a chance against the contemporary 'legends' like Izzet and Walsh....*edited Yeah exactly, some of the older players are obiously "more ledgendary" but Izzet is my favourite
rob-blue-fox Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 its got to be walsh for me,i was at the play-off final i was only 9 years old at the time and i can still remember it, that day was very specail to me. lets hope theres more to come
city1993 Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 Well I would have to go with Walshy obviously, and partly also due to the fact I never saw many of the others play, except for Mustafa.
Webbo Posted 21 June 2007 Posted 21 June 2007 Slightly off topic, one of my Dad's claims to fame was that Arthur Rowley's wife was one of his dinner ladies at his school in New Parks. Can you imagine that happening nowadays.
Thracian Posted 22 June 2007 Posted 22 June 2007 Who the hell picked that list? They're looking for a Leicester name yet the unmentioned Shilton, born and bred in Leicester, not only played 1,005 competitive matches including 125 matches for England but effectively displaced Banks in the City side while still a teenager. Then there's no Davie Gibson - Izzett was good but not that good!. It's quite right, old legends are unlikely to have the same impact with voters as modern ones because fewer people can remember them as the years pass but, from that list, the "Greatest" has to be Banks. Who else has helped win a World Cup and played for City when they a match for anyone in the land? As for Walshie he's certainly one of our larger than life characters from any era - and definitely one of my favourite players. But among the best to play for Leicester? I wouldn't even make him the best centre-half. Ian King and John Sjoberg and Tony Knapp were all quality in that position.

Banks? Shilton? Banks is ten times the man.
mancunianfox Posted 22 June 2007 Posted 22 June 2007 Don't agree with Muzzy being on there but Steve Walsh has to be included. I don't think the poll is really about who was the best or greatest player. With 350+ appearances he embodied the mentality of the club through the 90's and I think he more than deserves to be on the list.
Father Ted Posted 22 June 2007 Posted 22 June 2007 Not sure how to answer this one. The poll asks for the greatest player to have played for city - my guess is either Banks or Lineker were the better players who achieved the most in their careers but both moved on and did not play at the height of their careers whilst at Leicester. To be a legend is a different matter - Legend status can be gained not by being the best player but by how much the fans love you. For me that would be Walsh - All action figure, Defender turned striker, goals in the play off final against Derby. Took no messing, went a few rounds with Steve Bull. Gave 100% for the team and he stayed with city for 10 years(?) instead of moving on to a bigger club. He didnt have the ability of a Banks or Lineker but I think he is the bigger Legend. MANCINI

I think he's maybe in the top ten or so but definately not the best...Agree with Walsh or Claridge if he was on there...
Who ate all the pies? Posted 22 June 2007 Posted 22 June 2007 Graham Cross - after all according to the song "He is the Daddy!" (if your too young the Leicester song is 'The Tank') and he racked up 599 appearances. To be fair though Walshy always was and always will be the ultimate City legend for me!
skegness fox Posted 22 June 2007 Posted 22 June 2007 Gary lineker is a god but for me steve walsh gets the vote.
NorthernFox Posted 22 June 2007 Posted 22 June 2007 LEGEND - Steve Walsh - saw him get sent off in against shrewbury - watched the player he became. GREATEST PLAYER - Gordon Banks - easy greatest goalkeeper ever. Done
