Blackpool Post Match Comments & Opinions

Interesting reading most of the comments, some people already slagging of the team ,manager, players etc..

Others really trying to point out the positives within the game and still tipping us for a top 6 spot.

What did I say last week?

What, listen to me, what did I say?

Told you that this match was not going to be an easy game. You had only to look at their end of season run to get promoted that showed how confident they would be.

As for the game itself we should have won it easily, we hit the woodwork twice, their goalkeeper pulled of three top class saves. Any other time these five attempts would have produced goals.

I do tend to agree that MDV is not the striker we require up front, yes he can hold the ball up, cannot head the ball correctly if at all. (Has he got a square head)

Why the hell did Hume take a couple of corners?

He's a striker, as such should be in the box.

Thought Kishishev gave the ball away to many times. ( Maybe trying to put clever balls through that our players do not yet read)?

Impressed with Hayes on the wing when he came on.

Henderson worried me, lack of communication with defence and sometimes stayed on line when needed to come out and vice versa.

That will do for now, will see what happens next few games.

Still think we will finish about ninth in the league this season.

Actually that reminds me, maybe im just picky but did anybody think that the Clemence corners lacked abit of pace? Id prefer abit more power and whip it in there so that the strikers can just glance it in rather than have to put all the power on the ball.

Thats definately not me getting on Clemences back by the way! Just making a point.

Blackpool reminded me a bit of us under O'Neil, nothing fancy, hard work and closing down, not allowing us to play. Yes it was a poor performance by us and if we are going to do anything this season we need to beat teams like this but let's give Blackpool a bit of credit.

They were very well organised, and were happy to come here and get a point, they got lucky and got 3 points, but i agree they deserve credit as they battled very well. If they battle like that every game i think they should be able to pick up enough points to stay up!

I agree, I dont know why we insist on floated corners, they never really work for us! From my playing experience a whipped corner with pace is much harder to defend as opposed to floated corners. Hopefully that will be worked on in training this work.

Someones assessment of Saturday from BBC forum!

I have read some rubbish on here since Saturday! Listen, I was at the game, and this is what really happened!City were nervous for the first 20mins, and never troubled Blackpool. From then on we were the better team. We dominated the second half, and missed chance after chance. The law of averages states that both teams will get some chances, Blackpool had two in the second half, hit the post with one and scored the other. There is no debate about the goal, we would not have stopped for them, and its the City players faults for not carrying on.Anyone who has watched football for many years knows there are some games that you are destined never to score. This was just one of those games. This was not the City of the past few seasons, we were solid and creating chances. I think we created more chances in this game than the whole of last season!whoever said McCauly was our best player must be blind! He was our second WORST, behind Kitchishev, who was well off the pace. Chambers was shaping to be one of the stars, but Clemence made a difference to the midfield.City star man without doubt was Bruno N`Gotty. Top, top quality.Next best was Mark Devries! All these doubters are wrong. Two seasons ago he was a donkey. He is a changed man. Have these people who are so critical been to the game ? He won headers, showed great skill, was desperatly unlucky with his super shot and contributed for the 90mins.We will be fine. This was a smash and grab. Look at the other results on the opening day. Dont press the panic button, and dont start getting at players after 90mins of the season!Remember, Sunderland started slowly. We have a new team, gelling together takes time! Stop expecting miracles. Its where we are in May that counts.. and that will be a damn sight higher than last year!

LISTEN I WAS AT THE GAME AND THIS IS WHAT REALLY HAPPENED...

Mostly this was VERY BORING GAME, MATTOCK was TOTAL CRAP ALL GAME.

AND THAT SUMS UP THE GAME!!!!

City supporters have been fed a diet of tottally unexceptable standard of boring dismal unattractive low quality football ((THIS WAS THE SAME))

Even MA discription of the game, or at least part of it was "Like watching paint dry": (it was infact ALL THE GAME Martin)

I PRIDICTED CITY WOULD LOSE THE BLACKPOOL GAME 0 - 1:

I NOW PREDICT WE WILL BE BOTTOM 3 AFTER 3 GAMES:

I agree that that is a possibility, but I don't think that if we are bottom 3 after these next two games we will finish there. I do believe however that they will let us know whether realistically we are promotion prospects or not. To gain automatic promotion, you need to be able to beat upper mid table sides like Palace away from home, whilst seeing off top teams like Watford at home. I think if we take 0 points from these two games we won't be getting promotion, but I'd never say never and I certainly wouldn't assume it means relegation battle.

If I were Alan Hansen I would be really worried about my job with such bright, intellegent, articulate and accurate analysts around such as yourself.

The critcism of Mattock is harsh! He had to do the whole left side himself because neither Wesolowski or Newton are left wingers so drifted inside! It is a lot of pressure on him and if there was a proper left midfielder there, you would see that he is a good player, and that you no bugar all!

Well said, as someone said on here yesterday, we had 20 shots on goal, on another day 3 or 4 of them would have gone in and it would have been a comfortable win for us!

Well we didn't lose because of those two so you were only half right and therefore half wrong.

Is the 0-1 defeat to Blackpool just what we needed?

After the match I was incredibly pissed off to say the least... losing to a team just promoted from the league below and expected to get relegated this year. But then I took a step back and just tried to put it in perspective. Its the first game of the season and the team were probably expecting to get an easy win and this was where it all went wrong.

With the team suffering such a poor loss after having dominated for most of the match, it will hit them that they will actually have to up their games to deal with the serious nature of the Championships football. I feared that this would be the case during pre-season as we started to sign players who had played in the Premiership and they would think that they could waltz through the season and get away with it. Losing to Blackpool will perhaps wake them up and make them realise that this is tougher than they actually expected and then they will have do better in the future games otherwise we will be stuffed.

So from the loss, it could be good for us and I'm sure Martin Allen will agree, as it will then show the Leicester team that this league is tough and no matter how big the team is, toughness is needed as otherwise... forget the Premiership as it'll be relegation we will be fighting again!

I really don't think complacency was the reason we lost on Saturday.

I wasn't at the game but from what I've read it was for reasons common to a team that has only just started playing together versus a well organised team riding high on promotion who have played together for more than just a pre-season.

I'm not worried about complacency as I have faith in Allen and faith in why we appointed him as manager. For me losing to Blackpool is in no way just what we needed. What we needed was a win to galvanise the team and boost confidence, especially as it was the first game.

I just thing we was unlucky! We had chances to score just wasn't our day. I think we had the wake up call after 20 minutes when we hadn't played!

You're right. Amongst other factors luck obviously played a part but the point remains - a loss on the first day is not what we needed.

They had lots of luck we had none. On another day, another ref would have stopped the play with Chambers lying in the box. I think that incident summed up our luck for the game!

Could be worse - think of the Southampton fans that got twatted by the Twat and The Mole.
