Blackpool Post Match Comments & Opinions

I think they are both capable of taking good corners but it seems like they have this tactic to delicatly chip it to the front post and it never seems to work, if they just swing it in normally they're very good and we should have scored twice from corners. Not quite sure how Weso missed and De Vries just didn't get the right direction on his free header.

Near post balls are fine and to be encouraged but, as you say, need to be delivered with pace and some of them with bend.

He's out again tonight so no doubt I will get more bizarre abuse when he rolls in drunk. It's like being married to a Yorkshireman.

To be honest as Simon Grayson said, we had chances to win about 5 games.

Their keeper had the game of his life.

Personally I saw enough to be hopeful(ish) but I have never seen a less organised defence than ours today. Mattock looked uncomfortable at left back, McAuley i.m.o. is too slow. The main thing though was that none of the back four looked sure of what each other was going to do.

The positives were:

Weso looked dominant in the middle i.m.o.

Hume looked lively all game

Deep Freeze looked good in the 1st half (was a bit qiuet in the 2nd to be fair)

John Hayes looked lively on the wing, could be a good impact player.

AND the ref was an absolute c**t :@

That a good thing?

And all this Gareth Williams Floaty bollocks stuff, I heard some people saying that on the way out

Yeah I was in the Kop it was right at the end if I remember, I've had a few too many tins to be totally sure.

I reckon I heard people talking about it on the way out of the ground too while I was walking round the stadium..

Was quite funny but I wasn't aware of the context of the conversation lol lol

Blackpool wanted it a lot more than us tbh, it seemed like their cup final and fair play to them. They didn't show too much quality but were organised and very hard working - essentinal away from home.

We really should have scored at least once second half, how we didn't score I'll never know. It was just another on of those days down at the walkers, which are beoming all too familiar and need to stop.

MDV, N'Gotty and Chambers stood out for me, DJ when he came on also had an impact. Was worried by the performances of: Kishishev, Mattock, Henderson, Newton even McAuley and Clemence didn't really look at it.

Nice to see the highest crowd in the championship, but we as supporters need more, and I'm hoping it will come especially at home as our record at the walkers has been shambolic over the last few seasons, hopefully this isn't the start of another one.

I don't know. On one hand, I know this is only the start into the season. But we've got one of the best squads (on paper), invested loads more than any other Championship club and were clear favourites.

MA put some players in unfamiliar (and therefore unfortunate) positions, which hurt the game massively.

Why we still hold onto DeVries is beyond my knowledge. Maybe we can't get rid of him, so why not play him and maybe experience the sheer delight of him scoring again in the league?

Referee was crap, but it had to be expected from D'Arse'o.

The long ball tactics are a MA trademark, so there's no need to complain about it. It doesn't work out. I hope he somehow gets around that issue.

And we still don't manage to score properly enough. I still want to see Hume behind the strikers, he's no proven forward.

Waiting for the next game for us to fook it up once more.

I know we're always bound to high hopes, but this time, they're fully justified.

Ive covered most of this on the ratings thread but my trusty secretary has taken down the important points for me.....

1. It was our first game with 7 players making debuts (Ive added the subs and Newton who is now official lol)

2. We should have won comfortably.

3. The players need time to gel

4. MA needs time to work out his best players as pre-season and DVDs dont tell you much.

5. We seemed to get better and stronger in the second half.

6. Defeats build character

Not the perfect start but the way I saw it was we should have won easily! I cant believe some of the doom and gloom stuff Ive read around these boards and the in-fighting as well! I suppose it shows we care but lets be realistic as well as optimistic lol

Well Accrington are on a roll

Let's just hope MA doesn't underestimate them too much otherwise I fear the worst!

On the other hand, only four players started who didn't play last season - so we couldn't really expect that much (but maybe shows how much still needs to be done on the squad).

2. We should have won comfortably.

Don't know about "should" - we certainly "could" have won by 2, 3 or 4. With a bit of luck we might have got three points, but that would have masked our deficiencies and kept us thinking we were promotion certs.

3. The players need time to gel

True enough. Partnerships need to be built. The defence seems to be doing OK, Clem needs to be partnered with someone to suit him in the middle and we need to work out our best front line.

4. MA needs time to work out his best players as pre-season and DVDs dont tell you much.

Definitely.

5. We seemed to get better and stronger in the second half.

I'd agree. It's our first game, players and manager still working things out. Miracles don't happen overnight - even the original Saint Martin had a tough start.

6. Defeats build character

This is probably the most important thing. MA sounds like he hates to lose, he will give the players a kick up the backside and the result will give the fans a reality check.

The Championship is a fooking awful program, can't believe that's all they showed from our game... didn't even show the full incident either.

I am disappointed with all the hype before the game and then what happened on the pitch seemed like we have been talking about a different side.

The first half we didnt turn up, there was no energy or commitment.

Midfield was poor. Kishishev was terrible, no attempt to get involved, didnt break play up and distibution was poor. Pleased to see him go off.

Clemence was the biggest let down, I thought he would run the midfield but he hardly got involved. We had a good 20 minute spell in the second half when he put some effort in, if he had played like that all game it would have been a different match.

Chambers - top signing, looked really strong driving forward, creative - I hope the injury is not serious.

Mattock - OK most of the game, had 5 minutes of madness when everything he did went wrong

N'Gotty - class

Macauly - far too much hoof ball when it was not needed. Needs to be told not to pass the ball more than 20 yards.

Weso - lost on the wing, far better when he came inside and started to run the game.

Hume - worked hard - some good shots.

De Vries - still crap in the air. Hit the bar, shame it didnt go in to silence his critics. Good touches

DJ - Couple of chances he missed. Seems to be lively and a good touch.

Hayes - Looked good when he came on, has some tricks and can cross.

Newton - didnt get involved enough, had a few moment when he got involved and looked good on the ball needs to do it more.

Over all I thought it didnt work playing Weso and Newton out of position, I am unsure if Hayes and DJ are not fully fit but I think we would be better playing Newton, Clemence, Weso and Hayes in midfield - when we played in this formation we looked stronger. We need to start the game with full commitment we started far too slowly.

Hopefully this is a kick up the arse and they will try harder.

I don't agree the players need time to gel but everything else seems true. i thought we played well and should have won the game. We only lost 1-0 last season we lost 2-0 to Luton so we are doing better than last year, the sad thing is we are already 3 points off the playoffs and this is the closest we have got to the play offs in the last 3 years. Yes the closest we have been to the play offs is 3 points after we lost our first games of the season to sheff utd luton and blackpool, will we get any closer this season? it could be tough, i mean we have Palace away next week who will be full of confidence after a 4-1 win at Southampton and then Watford. Im going to pick out Clemence from the game. i thought he was poor. He wasted free kicks, he kept floating corners in we he needed to whip them in and going to the keeper, he hit an awful shot and ran the ball out of play worst player for me. Best player Hayes, put decent balls in, good pace, start him against palace with de vries and dj up front. I thought Hume had a really poor game.

lol at the way you merged my comment with yours! For a second there I was convinced that it was all mine and couldnt believe I actually said some of that stuff!

Clemence wasnt the best player on the park but we need to clarify a few things on him! Yes his set-pieces werent all that but lets remember he didnt have to do all that for Birmingham last season because they had the likes of Larrson and McSheffery taking most of them. He was a holding midfielder last year who have the ball to their attacking players but this season we are expecting way too much from him because we are asking him to do stuff that may not be natural to him.

lol

You're surely joking?! We've lost one game and the MA out crew are starting to gather.

I'm not sure how jovial that comment was but we have some pathetic fans.

Of course I don't want him out.

People were calling him a legend because his manager updates were funny. I wonder if that has changed because we've lost one game.

If that makes more sense, even though I thought the other post was clear enough.

Just cos we lost our first match that doesn't mean we have stopped loving MA

He is a funny Guy,but im sure he means business, and win or lose i don't think he will change his personality(although if we losethe next few games,i think his funnyafter match comments will be toned down drastcally!) :D
