The curry's Tech Centre is a lottery. I've had a few repairs and instances of help. But, I had a laptop that suddenly became as slow as Ayew. The tech guys told me it was my WiFi, despite having numerous other laptops and devices whizzing along. It was under warranty cover so, I insisted, it was sent away. It returned a couple of weeks later, total rebuild, with all new components. I was delighted to collect from the same tech guy and confirm 'so it wasn't my wifi'.

I hate Currys.

A few yrs ago my PS4 succumbed to the yellow light of death so I contacted Curry's and they told me it wasn't fixable at home and would need to be sdone in store. So I duly took it to Fosse Park and handed it over to the operative. He told me it was something only an official Sony agent could deal with. I said I thought they were. No, apparently their an authorised PS outlet but not authorised to carry out repairs.

Anyway, I was told they would send it off for assessment and gave me reference a number if I needed to contact them about it. It should take about 2 weeks, he said, and they would call me when it was ready.

2 weeks later nothing. I contacted them and was told it was still being "assessed" by the authorised person(?).

2  weeks later, still no call. I contacted them again, gave the reference number and was told there was no record of it being sent for repair. I explained I had taken it in and had this ref. number and there must be a record of this. Apparently nothing. I complained that it had been a month since and was told it would be chased up. "Give us a week and we'll get back to you".

Nothing. So I went personally to the store and demanded either they get it fixed or they replace it. They said "give us a week...".

In the end they said that the console had been "lost" and said they were very sorry but there was no trace of it being delivered to the "official" repairer. There was then quite a scene after they said I could have a reconditioned PS4 in it's place. I lost my shit. I got a new replacement.

On another occasion, we bought a 52" LG OLED TV, an SLR digital camera and a DAB radio/docking station (after getting an inheritance).

I cant remember the total price but it was around £3000.

I asked if there was a deal to be done given what we were spending. I was told no cash discount but they'd throw in an HDMI cable and a scart lead!

Naively, I accepted.

I've never been back since.

Two words.

Richer Sounds

At least for audio/visual equipment.

Bait boxes are pretty shit aren't they? I remember the bloke I used once saying if you dump something new like one of those boxes in to their environment they'll likely be wary of it and not actually even go in it

Yeah, that's exactly what we've been told and it seems to be true. Apparently they are prone to 'neophobia' - literally fear of new things, but at least that makes them a bit more relatable.

I've put my own bait box back down. A couple of years ago I had a bit of success with that when after ignoring it for weeks the rat that was a regular visitor seemed to have a weak moment and snaffled the lot, and that was the end of them.

The problem I've got this time is there seems to be more - I think I had three of the buggers in the garden yesterday, the only saving grace being I think they're just passing through

Wait... so why don't you get a new garden?

I am a genius!

P.S. nice to see someone else up at a decent time on Sunday, unlike the rest of these lazy gadabouts. Or is it just the scratching at your back door keeps you awake all night?

I quite fancy shooting them actually.

Weirdly, despite them occasionally working weekends as evidenced by yesterday, they seem to largely stick to normal office hours.

They also seemed to go away for Christmas, which must have been nice for them

Andrew Gwynne from the Labour party.

He strikes me as one of those guys (and it is usually guys) who cracks edgy jokes without any sense of whether it’s the right time or place for them. And someone who is desensitised to rudeness.

Or perhaps I’m being generous.

Either way, some time for self-reflection is called for.

The tree surgeon who this morning came to remove some large shrubs from my neighbour's front garden. Not only did he park his van directly across my driveway, but then finished off by using a leaf-blower to blow large amounts of sawdust and other debris all over the road and onto my driveway. Being too polite to go out to complain, I waited until he'd gone then swept up all the mess he'd made everywhere. What is the point of leaf-blowers?

Neighbours were having some work done on their outhouse and some of the guttering needed installing from my garden… no problem, although I wasn’t aware at the time.

Minding my own business, I see a tradesmen saunter down my drive and into the back garden. Collared him and asked him what he was doing.

He explained, I suggested he knocked and asks first in future.

He then proceeded to cut the uPVC on my lawn ready to fit. Told him to get back round and do it next door.

He said ‘how am I supposed to know the dimensions from round there?’ lol offered him a pencil and told him to get lost!

People holding up the queue at petrol stations.

Went to fill up this morning and got stuck behind 8 cars as someone decided to wait until another car left before moving.

Not hard to just filter in?

Couple win refund after buying £32m moth-infested London mansion

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/feb/10/couple-win-refund-after-buying-moth-infested-london-mansion

When you think about renters living in mouldy, damp houses that can't get their landlords to do anything.

Then you get billionaires who, instead of getting in a pest control company for what would be pocket change, get a £32m refund and no doubt paid lawyers £1000s.

Thought this was mad that the media think a. that this is news and b. that people want to read about it.

But completely agree with your points.

Often spotted on the sidelines at grassroots football matches, with their sour faces and stupid Dry Robes.

See this a lot, especially on Facebook with the various groups but I don't understand it lol Why does it annoy so many?

It's hard to describe but it's a bit like those who do their kids off to school in their pyjamas. It's irksome.

It's defo irksome, more so to me because I live on an island and the dry robe wronguns are trying to flex by creating the impression they're well 'ard and have been into the sea at 6am in -3. A bit like wearing military gear in the USA.

On the day a panorama doc on mould in houses was aired on the BBC as well. Just shows that being rich creates not only the resources to fight issues like this, but the time, intellect and attitude to go through the system and keep fighting, knowing you have very little to lose.

They are right btw and should've won this case, it appears.

Mostly wearing sports trainers and holding an over priced cup of coffee too.

It's middle class women's way of "getting the badge in".

Middle class? I dunno, most of the Dry Robe Bitches I see are rough as arseholes.

More ‘wearing pyjamas to Tesco Express’ than middle class.
