Federer has played some sublime stuff. Held on enough to nick the second set and from then has really turned it on.

I'll be honest, I didn't think he had it in him anymore. I was wrong. It's good to see him back at world no.1.

As for Murray...there will be other GS finals. He's too good not to keep putting himself in the frame...and maybe one day it'll come together.

Harsh on Murray. He played as well as I can remember and still wasn't good enough. Feel sorry for him, Federer was too good when it mattered.

Really surprised by the emotion he showed there. I thought even the players knew that tennis is a bit of a pointless sport. Didn't realise anyone took it so seriously.

He needs one final - just one, when one of that Great Tirumvirate are not on the other side of the net.

Each of those three won their first Slam playing a lesser player in the final. Murray sadly doesn't seem to have that same luck.

Great to see that from Murray. Outplayed today but showed what it really means to him.

I've never heard anything more boring than those of you whining about the whole British/Scottish issue, grow up. I assume you'll all only support English athletes at the Olympics, right?

Well...what could be more 'pointless' than 22 blokes trying to kick a ball into two nets? If you take that attitiude, you could call every sport pointless.

Not that I like tennis, mind. I mean personally I find it a bit boring (especially the women's game where there the players are much less likely to move off the baseline). And outside of the small coterie of elite players at the top, it's about the most bent sport going, even worse than horse-racing probably. But still, don't think it's fair to call it 'pointless'.

So Murray lost then? I tried watching but tennis is a tedious game. Well done to Murray though for making the final.

Federer really turned it on. Murray had no chance if Federerr was at 100% and he pretty much was. Still, wasn't a lot in it... if Murray had pounced more on the sitters he missed, could have been a different story.
