Been watching the TV coverage, been really impressed with Kings of Leon. They are a class act.

WAS were okay but not really a top festival band IMO. Haven't seen anything else decent yet. Editors are just ****ing irritating.

KoL were my favourite band from Reading last year. Absolutely blew away the main stage, no-one could follow them. I watched their set at Glasto and it sent shivers down my spine.

Attedances could be down for many reasons, I'm not that intersted in it to be honest. Perhaps the fact that the Indie scene is becoming more and more saturated? Perhaps it isn't what it used to be because of how it is run? Weather certainly. I really do not think Jay Z is to blame for the drop in popularity. But if it is, I find that very, very sad and ignorant.

I think there is just a general shift away from Glasto to the other main festivals, rather than people just rejecting Jay-Z.

What a set, by the way. Very original and I bloody wished I was there.

You're right.

People wouldn't avoid the whole weekend of Glastonbury just because Jay-Z was putting in an hour long performance on the Saturday... there's so many festivals out there and for the price of a Glasto ticket you can go abroad, see a new country, have fantastic weather, a quality line up and a new experience.

That's what I'm doing when I go to Serbia a week on Wednesday... wahey!

True I mean take Pukkelpop in Belgium in August you can go and see many of the bands that are at Reading including the likes of Metallica, Flaming Lips, Bloc Party, Cribs, The Breeders, Benga, Sigur Ros, soulwax, Editors, Alkaline Trio, Manics MGMT, The Killers, Pendulum in fact almost the exact same line up BUT that would only cost you 135 euros basically £55.00 cheaper than Reading so in other other words you could probably fly over and experience something totally different for the same price

Being an old fart, if it isn't played on Radio 2 I don't normally listen but I have to say that Jay Z was brilliant last night, far better than that shambling wreck Amy Winehouse murdering old Specials' songs.

Yeah, Amy Winehouse, what's with the press's adulation of her? She is drivel. Maybe they just want to see her OD. Can't stand her music, can't stand her music but don't wish her ill, however.

You probably think she has a bad voice to?

I suggest you get your ears syringed.

Don't get me wrong, I love her records. I just think if you're being paid all that money to perform you should be able to

a) Stand up straight.

b) Not slur the words.

c) Appear sober/not stoned.

Must admit I've not been that inspired by much of what I've seen of Glasto so far. (Admittedly, tis obviously only based on what's been televised - I'm sure if I'd been there I'd have wandered off to see some of the more obscure bands and found some gems!)

I've enjoyed what I've seen of the Kings of Leon; Massive Attack; Hot Chip - and I thought the Raconteurs played a really great set, but much of the rest has left me vaguely disappointed. Full credit to Jay-Z who really fired up the audience - I can't criticise his performance - it just ain't my cuppa tea!

I certainly don't think this year has been the greatest of line ups but it's all a matter of personal opinion, I guess.

Roll on Neil Diamond, eh?!

I saw Jay-Z on the telly and despite the fact that I'm pretty old and a guitar aficionado, I'm much rather see him than bloody Oasis, who peaked in 1996 and have been boring me shitless ever since. Gallagher's got a nerve saying who should and shouldn't be on - unless I'm much mistaken, Oasis' 2004 Glastonbury performance has gone down as being one of the crappest headlining performances ever.

It does my head in that all these young lads are into Oasis now. Oasis are something that people's Dads are into, and Dads that weren't ever into music that much in the first place

i couldn't agree more! what really annoyed me about oasis (and this coming from someone who queued from the crack of dawn to buy def mayb) is that they never made any attempt to experiment and grow musically. maybe if they had've taken their heads out of their arses they would've seen music's left them behind. this is why i like ian brown so much, he takes risks, he tries new genres and isn't obsessed with the beatles.

Plus Liam who was a great frontman now looks like a cliche and his voice is so whiney.

Agreed. They just went through the motions that night. :(

Much as I despise hip-hop, I have to concede that Jay-Z had a stormer. :o:o:o

I think some of the comments above are fair about Oasis, i am a big Oasis fan, But i dont just listen to Oasis, unlike a lot of people my age, some people do not expand there music range, you have to take it back, sample different bands, real music, besides i am far to into Hendrix,Led Zep, Kings of Leon, etc, to even put Oasis on that scale could be a insult to some( I personally would put Oasis in my all time top 20)

Besides all that i still like them and i will no doubt buy there next album, so what!! Each to there own!

We live in a age now, where NME and Jo Whiley imparticular ruin Music (IMO), they say every band is great, This is why i respect Noel Gallagher and Liam for speaking out, they are telling the truth, like it or not. Some times they do go over the top, but Noel has always said in many interviews, he does not mind a band that raises the bar, that wants to be different.

Ok so that could be a little contradictive coming from a man who's band worships the Beatles, I personally think some of Oasis tunes are different. Then there are some that sound like The Beatles. It is just opinions i suppose.

There are so many Average bands, a few that release one good song and a shit album. But some reason the public buy into it, do not ask me why!!

A lot of them are very very similar, same sound almost. I have no time for a lot of them, but then there are some new bands that are fairly decent, you can never really judge them or call them a good band until they have released at least 3 solid albums.

Kings Of Leon have in my opinion released 3 great albums. They worship Led Zep but yet there sound is very different which is very refreshing.

I have "Rambled on" as the Led Zep song goes, so as Glasto ends i think it has been a fairly decent year. I thought Kings Of Leon were class, The Enemy were decent, The Cribs, The Courteeners, The Verve and Vampire Weekend i enjoyed.

Jay Z i don't really like, i personally don't think he should have headlined Glastonbury BUT..... I though he done a fantastic set, not my cup of tea, but i did see the highlights and the crowd were going wild, so i think that puts a end to the "genre" argument..... Glastonbury changed this year, and i think we will continue to see different genres for years to come.
