Leeds Sack Mac

Did I mis-hear that? I thought they were sizing us up for boxing day!

No, Bates was at MK yesterday, which might explain why he's now given Gary Mac the push.

Leeds started to go downhill last season when Poyet left for Spurs. The fact that he's out of a job at the minute makes him a good shout for the job.

The board took the decision following the recent poor run of results that has seen the club slip to ninth in League One, 15 points behind the leaders and five points outside the play-offs.

Hmm... Managerless teams usually do surprisingly good against any opposition, especially top teams... Will Leeds do the same? I hope so. Not.

Apparently, their defence is lacklustre these days and the players just wouldn't care playing properly, hence their dismal run.

Whether this coup d'êtat will do them any good, I doubt it.

A win in Leeds would be such a wonderful Christmas present... :santa:

Feel sorry for Mac, maybe some sort of coaching role with us in the pipeline? I'm sure King would benefit immensely from someone like McAllister.

Leeds were champions after the first match (according to fans on ITV Teletext anyway) so this is no surprise

I'd like to see him in football again, smashing bloke.

One of their centre-backs is Rui Marques and is one of the worst players I have ever seen lol Michalik is the only one in their defence that is half decent. And then I come to Sheehan, lol

Well most Leeds fans dont rate Michalik from what I get told on a weekly basis.

Rui Marques and Sheehan are both rated.

What a tough game this for us now.
Are you really telling us it was going to be easy?!

What a tougherer game than it would have been this is for us now.

I rate him too, as everyone knows, but he does have his weaknesses and he'd have his ability tested in trying to cope with Gradel if the lad comes off the bench.

Like many full-backs he's not at his best when people run at him and turn him and he'd need to get very tight indeed, not something he was noted for at City.

Gradel's just the sort who could lure him into a rash tackle and a potential sending off unless Sheehan is much improved.

On the other hand we've not had to cope with the sort of free-kicks he's capable of delivering at any stage this season and he's well capable of delivering pinpoint passes from anywhere, as well as whacking a decent shot.

Intriguing prospect. But no-one knows Sheehan's capabilities and weaknesses more than the City players.

LEEDS UNITED could have a new manager in place before the Boxing Day meeting with League One leaders Leicester City. Stay tuned for a SportsTalk special on the crisis at Elland Road - online from this afternoon.

The Elland Road club yesterday sacked Gary McAllister after less than 11 months in charge following a woeful run of form.

Saturday's 3-1 reverse at Milton Keynes was United's fifth straight defeat and means they are now five points adrift of the play-offs in ninth place.

The Yorkshire Post understands the club are keen to make an appointment as quickly as possible to allow the new man time to assess the squad ahead of the transfer window opening in January.

And this desire for a speedy resolution to the search for a new manager suggests the club will be looking for someone who is not employed at the moment.

Former Derby County and Preston North End manager Billy Davies certainly fits the bill with the Scot not having worked since leaving Pride Park 13 months ago, while Adrian Boothroyd is another looking for a return to the game.

The Bradford-born 37-year-old was on the coaching staff at Elland Road when Kevin Blackwell was in charge and is out of work following last month's departure from Watford.

Gus Poyet is another possibility with his impact as Dennis Wise's assistant at Leeds meaning he has to be considered a leading contender due to the high esteem he is held at Elland Road. It was felt by club insiders that the Uruguayan's influence was sorely missed after he opted to join Juande Ramos at Tottenham Hotspur in October 2007.

Poyet, who left White Hart Lane last month, was in the crowd at Milton Keynes on Saturday when United were comprehensively beaten.

Leeds were tight-lipped last night over the search for McAllister's successor but the Yorkshire Post understands the new man could be in place before the festive meetings with Leicester City and Stockport County.

A club statement said: "The board took the decision following the recent poor run of results that has seen the club slip to ninth in League One, 15 points behind the leaders and five points outside the play-offs.

"The decision was made to ensure that the new manager, when appointed, has the maximum number of games possible to move the club up the table and also before the transfer window opens in January to allow him to identify any new players he thinks can strengthen the current squad.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks for the loyal service given to Leeds United by Gary since joining the club as manager in January 2008 and wish him every success in the future. The club will make no further comment on a replacement until we are in a position to make an appointment, which we are committed to doing as quickly as possible."

McAllister was appointed Leeds manager in late January following Wise's shock decision to join a reshaped management team at Newcastle United.

His first game ended in defeat and it took another four games for United to win under the Scot.

However, they then embarked on an excellent run of form that saw Leeds lose just two more games in the regular season.

Had it not been for the 15-point penalty imposed before the season, United would have finished in the top two but instead they had to settle for the play-offs, where they lost to Doncaster Rovers.

Hopes were high this season would see United dominate League One and they started November in the automatic promotion places.

However, a collapse in form has seen Leeds drop down the league, culminating in a lame performance at MK Dons that led to the watching Ken Bates to call time on McAllister's reign.

Training will be taken by Steve Staunton today as the search begins for what will be United's seventh appointment in as many years.

We're experts in new managerial discussions, and many times we have seen that the favourtite does not take over, but here's the odds for the next Leeds manager;

Gus Poyet - For some reasons no odds next to his name, but he is favourite.

Adrian Boothroyd - 11/4

Alan Curbishley - 14/1

Paul Ince - 16/1

Alan Pardew - 18/1

Lawrie Sanchez - 20/1

David O'Leary - 22/1

Owen Coyle - 25/1

Peter Reid - 25/1

Paul Jewell - 25/1

Glenn Hoddle - 25/1

Roy Keane - 25/1

Stuart Peace - 25/1

Graham Sounness - 25/1

Robert Martinez - 33/1

Steve Staunton - 33/1

Chris Coleman - 33/1

Kevin Keegan - 33/1

Avram Grant - 33/1

George Graham - 33/1

Kenny Dalglish - 33/1

Terry Venebles - 40/1

Slaven Bilic - 40/1

Martin Jol - 40/1

Steve McClaren - 40/1

Mick McCarthy - 50/1

Eric Cantona - 100/1

Brian Kerr - 100/1

There really is alot of stupid and unrealistic choices in that list, I'd say the majority of that list wouldn't even look at Leeds. And really surprised not to see the Poison Dwarf not on the list.

Steve Staunton Gone.

Following the departure of first team manager...

Following the departure of first team manager Gary McAllister, assistant manager Steve Staunton has parted company with the club.

The first team squad returned to Thorp Arch on Monday morning with Neil Thompson and Andy Beasley taking training.

The club would like to re-iterate that we hope to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible.
