James. Posted 1 April 2009 Author Posted 1 April 2009 Bit of an update. Got home from work and thought I'd pop out for a run and check out what was still going on. Headed from Whitechapel to Bishopsgate and saw the climate camp, had a stroll through there, all pretty chilled out really. Loads of police obviously but the camp itself was full of tents, hippies, music, spliffs and seemed a pretty good laugh. From there I headed towards Bank thinking that most of it would have dispersed by now. Oh no. Still a lot of protestors and a lot of riot police. Saw a few surges down one street which were met with some pretty forceful resistance. Then went around the perimeter of the main demonstration zone. Lots of entrances completely sealed off with vans. On my way back accidentally got caught up in a bit of a street battle, protestors throwing cans, bottles, glasses, anything they could get their hands on basically. Police retaliated with the baton. Didn't seem to need much encouragement but to be fair everyone's getting a bit boozed up and the atmosphere was pretty tense. Have got quite a few photos and videos. Once I can be arsed I'll stick them on here. One of the videos is of the last bit I described when I was in amongst it. As much as I slate the demonstration generally there's no getting away from the fact that was pretty bloody exciting.

Suppose that's what I get for wearing my combats cos all my other trousers are either in the wash or boxed up after moving house yesterday

That has to be the funniest thing I saw yesterday. Photographers being batoned for being forced into the police by the protesters. I'd like to see more of this. Idiots saying "Capitalism has failed" are 1) Wrong and 2) Failing - again - to propose anything resembling a workable alternative - even in theoretical terms. Everything we make and grow isn't here because of money. Say if we had no money, we could all still work for credits and you choose what you want to trade them in for. All the metals. plastics etc. would still be able to be produced as long as we all worked. The reason money was invented was to make sure some people are kept above others. It doesn't cost anything to make or invent any technology, it just takes labour and brains. Money doesn't create anything, human effort does. That's free when all is said and done

You get an unholy alliance of a raft of different interest groups, such that any reasonable ideas are completely lost. It's perfectly reasonable to demonstrate and protest against the course of action the current governments of the world are taking. Sadly, this is lost behind braindead idiots who would rather cause trouble or braindead idiots who are so clueless they'd rather abolish capitalism and retard human progress.
