Matt Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 The 0-0 at home to Northampton gave City a right kick up the arse which was much needed made City in away realise what League One was all about. Leeds at home though was massive. Could say that about the Brighton game too, so close to winning then fook it up late on, We then go on our unbeaten run. You only have to look at the picture of Pearson after the match that night to see what a bollocking was in store for the players that night. (Someone has it in their sig I think, forgot who)

(Someone has it in their sig I think, forgot who) Yea couldnt agree more. I think these are the games that are just as important as the big games at Scunny and Leeds, this Brighton game again gave the players a kick up the arse. If it wasnt for that long unbeaten run I think we certainly wouldnt have won the League but thankfully we went on such a good run! Kilworth is the man with it in his sig. Scariest signature on Foxestalk.
FilboFox Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Can't really say one game won us the league as all the games we won and even drew won us the league... that said, an important match that kept the momentum going towards us winning the league was probably beating Peterborough 4-0... massive win. Beating Bristol Rovers 2-1 after being behind in the last few minutes was good too...
MarkDeVries Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 Hereford away. Yeh, especially as P'boro dropped points at home to Cheltenham, a win their and we were sorted Great atmosphere that game We had half the ground.
Koke Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Scunneh away. Late Andy King winner which took us top of the league that evening, and we never looked back. That's when our assault on League 1 really started.
lavrentis Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Scunneh away. Late Andy King winner which took us top of the league that evening, and we never looked back. That's when our assault on League 1 really started. This.
ASH17LCFC Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Scunny away, was a decent peformance and got that feeling were you thought ... We could make the playoffs.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Both Bristol Rovers games 1-0 down at hime with 5 minutes to go, and we were on an appalling run (by our standards) at that time... 2 goals in the last 5 minutes... boost of confidence, and we went on to not lose another 22 games until tranmere Similarly, Bristol rovers away, penalty save, all three instead of getting only one at best (i think they would have won it had they scored the peno though) that is what we needed aswell. But there are quite a few games to pick from I suppose
Hitesh Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Has to be the Leeds game! To do what Leeds did to us earlier in the season but to win the game this time was quality and Howard getting the goal in front of 29,000+ was quality!
UrbanFox Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Leeds game for me. ended the perfect easter weekend with other results going our way
chesterfox Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 I'd choose Hereford. We were really wobbling, the day before that we'd only just held on to 1st place thanks to our friends down at Cheltenham. We went 1-0 down and all the signs were there again, but we pulled a win out of the bag and we never looked back from there. defo that weekend was awesome - the win v Hereford was hard fought and not as straightforward as now appears - Peterboro had almost caught up and if we had wobbled then things wd have been a lot harder. Followed then by the Leeds victory that last minute celebration was one of champions in the making. Also taking over an away ground is awesome. anyone else bored btw??? can't wait till the fixtures come out - plan some away days
StanSP Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Voted Leeds. Didn't go to it, but getting a text from my bro while on holiday about this result, I went crazy!!
Corky Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Hereford away- we had a decent Good Friday with Peterborough and Millwall both dropping points, and we took advantage and never looked back.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 People seem to forget just what a victory at Millwall it was. That was a massive 3 points in my opinion. They were always going to be a physical team and we matched them. Howard hd a one man war with their defence and won us the game. Just because its only 1-0 doesn't mean it wasn't a good performance and i just don'f ell it got the credit it deserved. But the MK game also, as it showed a never give up attitude the team seem to have now.
Ultra Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 All of these wins were important. But the winner against Leeds put us within touching distance of the title.
clazkel Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 The win against Scunny was definately important, since that win we went top of the league and have been there ever since The point at MK dons was really important as it kept our confidence up as heads couldve went down if we lost Millwall away was a solid performance, and a deserved win Howards goals against Leeds was soo important, what a moment Its difficult to pick one out as they all were important wins at the right time that lead to being Championeees!
maddog Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Millwall away. Had they beaten us we would have slipped below them, and they may not have fell away like they did. That was a real 6 pointer. Plus it was after 4 draws in our previous 5 home games and a shocking defeat to Tranmere a few days before. That was the game that won us the League.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Where's the Bristol Rovers games? The one at home was a massive turn around which started the big run we went on to get well clear of the pack - then the one at their ground was crucial in maintainng a bit of momentum into the final push for promotion.
Flynny Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 I don't know whether this is obvious or counter-intuitive, but 2-0 at home to MK Dons on the first day of the season? Easy to underestimate the effect it might have had had we lost or drawn our opening match.
Guest Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Millwall for me. Think that was a brilliant win. Agreed. Honestly one of the best performances of the season. There's only one Matty Oakley, One Matty Oooooaaakleey!
carterfox90 Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 i put leeds at home as soon as that goal went in both players & fans knew at the same time knew we had done it & what a great feeling the whole ground was in at that moment
