Edmund Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 This ending is such a come down after the Drogba display of a few weeks ago. They should just put that Norwegian as Ref in all final games as standard to add some entertainment.
Corky Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Thoroughly deserved win for Barca, apart from the first 10 minutes they were always in control and had enough to see it through. Iniesta was superb in particular, and what a first season in management for Guardiola!
Katy Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Thierry Henry - get him in the FILF thread! Va Va Voom Damn straight! This tops off a wonderful season for me. And me, I have just been saying this. Almost the most perfect season I can remember in a long time.
The Reverend Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 I wasn't too fussed about who won but I found myself drifting in and out of it all the time. All I wanted to see was two teams go at each other but it never happened. None of the special players really took the game buy the balls, apart from Xavi, maybe Iniesta. Messi scored but wasn't great, Ronaldo was petualant, Rooney was no-existent thanks to where he was put, Giggs had an absolute shocker, and Anderson looked way out of his depth. The last decent Champs League final imo was the Liverpool / Milan one in 2005. The one thing you can be sure of with Liverpool is that they're good entertainment value. Agree with all of that. Didnt think Barca were that great - Yanited just looked overawed really. Why, i'm not so sure I think Yanited need to ship out some of the deadwood to compete - they've been found out a few times against the big teams this season, in the premiership too. Players like O'Shea, Carrick, Giggs (as much as I love him), Park, they need shipping out and replacing with genuine quality. Giggs of course used to be awesome but is past it, the rest never have and never will be good enough for Yanited. Going back to Barca, disappointed with Messi. Fantastic header, brilliant, but his overall play wasnt great. I thought Iniesta was probably Barcas best player. Not a great game overall either.
Finnegan Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 "Ronaldo will tear Puyol to shreds" lol Generally agree with Red Leicester, though. I think you're missing the subtlety of Barca's play if you're baffled by what the fuss is about or just expecting them to score three hundred goals a game. It's in the way they keep the ball and how difficult it is to play against a total football side. They didn't have to be samba they just had to be consistent, accurate and intelligent and that's what they were. When you consider the players they're without I thought they were stunning in fairness. Was a shame to hear the ITV harp on about how it had been "one of those Messi performances" because I didn't think he was at his best. Iniesta and Xavi bossed it and really deserve the plaudits that they'll hopefully get in the Spanish press at least.
Guest Bilo Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 This I cannot understand. Don't get me wrong, Barca are clearly a great side, but tonight I don't think they were anything special.I'm not a Premier League fanboy either. They passed the European Champions off the park for 80 of the 90 minutes. A team that hadn't been beaten in the CL in two years and counts the World Player of the Year among its playing staff. They outclassed United in every single department, made Ronaldo look decidely average and passed the ball around brilliantly. I can count on one hand the number of misplaced passes they put in tonight, I ran out of fingers and toes for the number United put in.
Corky Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Platini will love this. TWAT He did look very smug when shaking the Barcelona players' hands.
Matt Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Platini will love this. TWAT He looked a right smug twat when handing medals out to the Man Utd players.
Darkzzz_ Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 People just can't give praise can they. It is a great shame.
Guest Bilo Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 "Ronaldo will tear Puyol to shreds" lol Best in the world though. The Sun says it so it must be true.
WardyisPukka Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 not a amazing final , but Barca are a pleasure to watch sometimes , especially Iniesta , the way he dinks past players is amazing , he must be regarded as one of the best players in the world , plus barca didnt miss abidal or alves one single bit and they were strong in defence with Pique a rock , Utd just didnt perform , Carrick passing was absolute crap , Well deserved Barca ps i might get a barca top with Iniesta on the back
Guest Bilo Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Platini will love this. TWAT He is an Anglophobe ****wit. Never liked the horrible little turd.
Matt Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 People just can't give praise can they.It is a great shame. Barcelona Champions League Winners 2009.Well Done.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 People just can't give praise can they.It is a great shame. Mate, people aren't taking anything away from Barca at all. But if you think that that was a great game of football, and that that was Messi at his best, I think you know you're mistaken. I've said they deserved to win tonight but, as a spectacle, and as a contest, I thought the UEFA Cup edged what I've just seen. You know I'm not a Prem bumboy and like other leagues, and that all I wanted was to see a good game, can't understand this comment at all.
Samilktray Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Better team on the night? Yes. Better team overall? No. Messi better than Ronaldo? No. And my god it was awful, last years final was better than that drivel.
Darkzzz_ Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Best in the world though. The Sun says it so it must be true. He was awful, as he usually is in big games. The key players were Xavi and Iniesta though.Just unplayable, best two in the world. So glad Sir Alex said Barca are a better team. I love Sir Alex, would rather be beating Liverpool in the final than United because United are a team I respect so much.

It's rare you see such an abject United performance but they looked utterly short of ideas to be fair. All that stuff on the ITV about how "Carrick has the passing ability to match any of his opponents tonight" just made the British press look as pathetic as they are.
deepbluedevil Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Barca were quality tonight, just kept the ball so easily
Finnegan Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Better team on the night? Yes.Better team overall? No. Messi better than Ronaldo? No. And my god it was awful, last years final was better than that drivel. You want to check your grapes, mate, they don't look all too edible! But yeah, yeah "it's just my opinion wah wah." It wasn't a classic and I'd probably agree with you that last year's final was better, but the rest of your post? As an obvious wind up? In your own words: "Fail."
purpleronnie Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 I dont think you can compare messi and ronaldo unless they switched leagues.

Don't get me started on iTV. United had 5 minutes max in the first half when they looked vaguely threatening. Barca totally overshadowed them for the rest of the half, yet all that came under analysis by "the boys" was these first few minutes, which included a half arsed effort from Ronaldo from what, 40 yards? That and a free kick that was poorly dealt with by Valdes.
