C-man Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 I wish people would stop writing off Barnsley's chances. It makes me nervous. They're hardly going to come here and ship 3 or 4 against a team with one fit striker.
Kilworthfox Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Weale Morrison Tunchev Brown BernerGradel Oakley Wellens AdamsFryatt HowardSubsLogan, Powell, Hobbs, Dyer, King, Campbell, N'Guessan

Wycombe Fox Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 DJ could be starting - he's scored two so far for the reserves tonight. And one for Yann Kermit!
flanimal Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Maybe that is the new Leicester strikeforce? Kermo offers everything Howard does with more skill and flair, and DJ has the pace on Fryatt, and is arguably a better finisher at Championship level.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Kermo offers everything Howard does with more skill and flair I know it's not hard to do something with more skill or flair than Howard, but seriously, have you ever seen this guy play? What are you basing this on?

I take it that a: you've seen Kermorgant play a number of games, and b: We've offered him a contract?
flanimal Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 I'm basing it on not a lot, admittedly. Just getting excited that we could have one striker with cunning flair, and one with pace who can score at the club!
bigneville Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 I think it should be; Weale Neilson Brown Hobbs Berner N'Guessan Wellens Oakley Adams Fryatt Waghorn/Howard/Chambers depends on who is fit. I think the team should be kept as similar as possible to Sheff Utd. Think 1-1 was a cracking result, and a similar team should be played.

Thracian Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/8209743.stm Hamstring injuries always hint at fatique to me - of players, especially either veteran players or relatively unprimed playes, stepping into a heavy programme of two matches a week before they've really got into the rhythm of even playing one. Whether there's truth in that can't be proved but to me we've long relied too heavily on Howard and now we are clearly going to pay the price by losing him for a significant period. What happens next will give insight into the ambition of Pearson and Mandaric, especially with question marks remaining about Fryatt's fitness. Who knows it could turn out to be a blessing, one that eventually leaves us with more options and, hopefully, the chance to shape up with more pace and mobility from our chosen central marksmen.

To be honest, I think the more you play the passing game, the less the need for a target man. In the first 65 minutes last night, we were doing short, crisp passing and I thought Fryatt and Waghorn were always a potential threat with the ball at their feet. I felt that only later on in the game when we started to panick with the long balls was when we really missed Howard.
Thracian Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 I'm interested to see how many people now pick Adams ahead of Dyer. I've no firm view on the issue yet having been as impressed with the revitalised Adams as much as most everyone else. But it seems a bit early to be ditching Dyer's goalscoring prowess. One of our great strengths last season was that we seemed to score from far more positions than had been the case in other recent seasons. Yes Adams looks much more positive this year but will that translate into the level of goals/assists amassed by Dyer? I wonder.

Thracian Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Unless? Weale Neilson - Hobbs - Brown - BernerOakley - WellensGradel-----------Adams ----- DyerFryatt Hate to say it but I can't see Maxi getting much more than a bit part this season, any more than King. The more Pearson signs his own players the more I can see both dropping down the "must play" list. Both need to show massive character this season, together with considerable imporovement in their games, if they are to stay in contention. But that won't be easy if they don't get the match time.

Gradel still seems to be a bit of a loose cannon, but if we play two fairly deep central midfielders and two wingers who have much more license to support the striker he becomes a perfect fit for that role.

That may be the case but the manager needs to show some confidence in his ability to do that job. Yet his inclination to play Oakley on the right as a change option hardly suggests that he has that confidence.
ithuriel Posted 20 August 2009 Posted 20 August 2009 stay 4-4-2 the players are used to it and it works. if players are fit i doubt it will be announced until the last minute to keep barnsley guessing. as for players like gradel and king , it is a long season and unless they do not fit into the managers plans i think everyone will get a chance at some point
Simo86 Posted 20 August 2009 Posted 20 August 2009 I'd stick with 4-4-2 and go: Weale Neilson Berner Hobbs Brown Adams Dyer Oakley Wellens Fryatt N'Guessan Subs: Logan, Morrison, Tunchev, King, Gradel, Dickov, Kermorgant/Campbell?
