Bluefoxtim Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Heskey surely cannot start tonight, I've never seen someone do so little for club and country yet still get picked constantly. Heskey will certainly not strike fear into the Croatians, or any defence for that matter. Bit harsh.
purpleronnie Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 I think a draw, I would be more confident but the english defence looks shakey. I hope scotland can win also.

Heskey will certainly not strike fear into the Croatians, or any defence for that matter. This is the problem though. I cant see Rooney or De Foe winning many headers against 6ft plus defenders. Heskey probably wont have a shot but we'll still beat croatia with him in the team.
Guest Bilo Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Croatia will not roll over tonight as they did in Zagreb. I can't help think they underestimated England as much as England did then in the Euro 2008 qualifiers and let their heads drop when Walcott opened the scoring. It was a great performance from England that night of course, one that any team in Europe would have been proud of, but I doubt we'd have won 4-1 without their sending off. Tonight I can see a much closer game as the two teams should now have a healthy respect for one another as both have humiliated the other at some point. Croatia are unlikely to play with the same carefree style they did at Wembley two years ago as they need the points far more now than they did then, and as a result a defeat would be a far harder pill to swallow for them tonight. A defensive performance from the Croats wouldn't be a shock as a draw would be a highly creditable result against an England side that has swept all before them in the group, especially without their star player Modric. Still, England will be well up for completing the first job of Capello's reign by qualifying as soon as possible. A win tonight will seal it, and take the pressure off what will be a tough trip to Ukraine in October. Defoe is in the form of his life for club and country, Rooney has finally found his scoring boots in an England shirt and the midfield has finally clicked as it should have five years ago. Croatia won't make it easy, but I think that England's strength in all departments can win the day and complete qualifying before News at Ten tonight. 2-1 England with goals from Lampard and Defoe doing the damage.
dogadug Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 England 2-0 Croatia Scotland 1-2 Holland N. Ireland 0-2 Slovakia Wales 1-2 Russia There's my predictions for tonight.

Unit Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Been a while since i've been able to get excited about an england game but this is definately one of them times. couple of mates coming round with some lagers in front of the t.v, happy days.

Heskey probably wont have a shot but we'll still beat croatia with him in the team. England don't play much hoofball now so it shouldn't be a problem. Heskey didn't exactly head and hold the ball up very well at the weekend anyway. After seeing what Heskey did to Croatia in the previous game I think they will fear Heskey a little bit. Possibly, but that was a while ago now and ultimately it was the pace and incision of Walcott that they really succumbed to, something Jermain Defoe can offer. I just don't like the fact Heskey has done **** all since that game, but he still holds favour with Capello over strikers that have been in far better form (Defoe, C Cole, Crouch).
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 I have a feeling we will either win 3 or 4-0 or play out a 1-1 draw. Doesn't matter for me as we are already there. Hope Scoland fook it up as usual!
Edmund Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 I can't see the Dutch losing tonight. They have to much pride when it comes to football and I know they wont give any breaks to the Scotts. I would like to see as many British clubs at the world cup as possible though would make things more interesting.

Heskey will certainly not strike fear into the Croatians, or any defence for that matter. Harsh. Capello likes his big man, especially against Crotia. Rooney and Defoe would hardly be a combination to strike fear into centre backs on the physical scale. I think he'll start again, and then possibly bring Defoe on depending on how things are going.

Im going to cause a bit of a stir and even say I would probably rather see a Heskey/Defoe partnership over a Heskey/Rooney partenrship at present. Defoe is back to his playing best and back to his form he showed at West Ham. Always rated him as a top class finisher. Went on a bit of a downwards spiral under Jol at Tottemham due to not getting picked enough.
Joe. Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 I've still got my doubts about his abilties for England personally. Hopefully this recent form isn't just a flash in the pan, and he won't peter out quickly like I'm expecting. He'd be a brilliant option to have for us if he's on form.

Yeah but Heskey tore them apart with the ball played up to him and his pace like Walcott's was a threat. I would probably go for Defoe because I want us to go all guns blazing at Croatia but if Heskey gets the nod I am more than confident in his ability to give Croatia problems. Carlton Cole shouldnt be ahead of any of the strikers. Would really like Aaron Lennon to get a start tonight so we can see if he really is up to International football and up against teams with the same playing level as what we will be facing in South Africa.

Im confident he wont anytime soon. he is a confidence player and at the moment he has an abundance. But you have to remember this isn't anything new. We saw this sort of form at West Ham and his early days at Spurs not forgetting Pompey albeit not at international level but he scored some cracking goals. You sometimes forget how long he has been around.
sdb Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 I think Heskey's been brilliant for England under Capello, and England as a whole as a result. People that criticise him, i just don't get. He plays - England almost always win, especially competitive games. It doesn't matter if he doesn't score - the team win. Rooney/Lamps/Gerrard all look so much better with him in the team. England bossed the first half on Wednesday without getting out of 2nd/3rd gear, 2nd half we had no options and the ball was going sideways and backwards. Defoe's brilliant at the moment but I can't see him working in Capello's system from the 1st minute. Great option to have on the bench but it'll be interesting to see who starts tonight. Heskey was great in the away fixture but Defoe's making a real claim. p.s i'm not suggesting Heskey's been impressive at Villa I think Heskey's been brilliant for England under Capello, and England as a whole as a result. lildave3 Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Jesus christ Dan, you really don't like Heskey Heskey is the right choice.
Joe. Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Green Johnson, Upson, Terry, Cole Lennon, Barry, Lampard, Gerrard Rooney, Heskey. Subs: Foster, Brown, Bridge, Milner, Defoe, Beckham, Crouch.
Salieri Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Looking forward to this England match more than for a long time. 2-1 England, Rooney and Lampard. (although i would love it if big Emile bagged a goal).
Blue Foxes Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Kee and McGivern both on the subs bench for Northern Ireland
