flanimal Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 They were saving him for Championship... just in two years when Leeds got promoted.
StanSP Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 Makes an absolute nonsense of what knowitall told us last season as well about them "saving him" for the Championship. You blaming KIA? Or you not going to take into consideration that the team has developed quicker than Gradel has which means he may be lagging behind?
Budweiser Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 You blaming KIA?Or you not going to take into consideration that the team has developed quicker than Gradel has which means he may be lagging behind? How can we tell if he's been lagging behind this season? He hasn't even played a league game has he?
Thracian Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 You blaming KIA?Or you not going to take into consideration that the team has developed quicker than Gradel has which means he may be lagging behind? Sounds like we'll know the answer to that quickly enough if he plays reularly for Leeds. Odd times apart, like the first half at Watford, first 25 minutes at Newcastle plus the second half at home to Palace, I'd agree we've made progress but the rest of the time I've failed to see it. And most particularly on the right flank.

Flynny Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 You blaming KIA?Or you not going to take into consideration that the team has developed quicker than Gradel has which means he may be lagging behind? Not at all, I just don't see why Pearson would rate Gradel that highly last season and not play him that much, and not rate him at all this season. The most likely explanation is that Pearson just doesn't think he's very good. Bizarre when we've got Oakley out on the right, but there you go.

The most likely explanation is that Pearson just doesn't think he's very good. Bizarre when we've got Oakley out on the right, but there you go. Yes very bizarre. He obviously doesn't like Gradel. The fact we are struggling on the wings this season though, i can't see how Gradel could be any worse an option than Oakley/N'Guessan on the right, infact it's likely he's a better option. I am also in shock that Adams hasn't been given a run of games, he has been awesome the times he's played this season, was the only game he started the Preston game he scored a cracking goal there and looked so pacy and sharp.
Flynny Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 I suppose it's inevitable when we've got lots of "quite good" players but no obvious stars that a group of people will always be unhappy with the team selection. At least we're strong in reserve I guess.
StanSP Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 How can we tell if he's been lagging behind this season? He hasn't even played a league game has he? There's your point. Hasn't played a league game because he might not have impressed in training whereas others have
Budweiser Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 There's your point. Hasn't played a league game because he might not have impressed in training whereas others have I'd prefer to see him for a couple of games and make my judgement. He seemed good when he came on for Leeds, albeit in League 1. I doubt the standard of Leeds is far from the Championship?
Thracian Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 Maybe Gradel is rubbish. Some said that about Sheehan. He joined Oldham when they were languishing near the relegation zone. Since then he has helped them up into the promotion play-off places and today provided his third assist in his last four appearances as Oldham beat Brighton - such a bogey side for Leicester. I picked up the following comment about him: Sheehan gained two assists in Oldhams 2-0 win over Carlisle. Carlisle's manager Greg Abbott proclaimed after the match that Sheehan was 'Premiership Class'. Oldham have been impressed with Sheehan in his first few games and are in discussions with Leeds about extending his loan further. Sheehan scored his first Oldham goal against MK Dons. He extended his loan until 1 November 2009 on 2 October. His form for Oldham has alerted scouts at other clubs with Nottingham Forest reportedly interested in signing Sheehan. Today's assist in a 2-0 away win won't have harmed his current £135,000 valuation. He was missing last week with an ankle injury. Oldham lost 3-1. . But we preferred Mattock. And I'm sure we'll be saying the same about others we preferred to Gradel.

Fair enough he is having a great spell at Oldham and I don't want to take anything away from him but come on Thracian he couldn't get in the squad here for a reason. In his brief stint at Leeds he was found out to be error prone and can't even get into a top league 1 side. Grayson gave him a chance in pre season and he hasn't shown enough to get in there side. I think he has found his level and it explains why he was never given the chance at Leicester.

James. Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 Think I just found the quote: Wherever the goals come from is a disappointment but Chris Taylor is a player that has been valued at a lot of money and Alan Sheehan has been a Premiership full-back, so there is quality there. Sheehan might have been an unfinished article but he enjoyed an excellent run of good results midway through his Leeds career under McAllister which took his team into the play off places. He was then suspended and not picked for the final which Leeds lost. I've read every report on his last four games and it seems he's in excellent form, well involved and scoring or making goals again.

Like I said good on the lad but I reckon he has found his level. but he made amends in the closing seconds and Leeds won again and in South London. Leeds lost 2-1 by the way Beckford's reaction shows he had no idea how he missed Were you at The Den today? You seem to know a lot about Beckfords reaction

I've not been on this forum long enough to have followed exactly which young players you have "championed" over the years. But, in your opinion, how many of them (if any) have gone on to be a success after leaving this club? I'm only saying it because it seems to me that every time a young player is overlooked here you always bemoan the fact that we should be giving the youngsters a chance etc rather than maybe they're just not good enough? I've racked my brains to try to think of young players that we have let go, that have gone on to forge a career at a relatively high level, but am struggling to be honest.

I've racked my brains to try to think of young players that we have let go, that have gone on to forge a career at a relatively high level, but am struggling to be honest. I've not made any lavish claims about young players having the potential to play above Leicester's level and have been among the first to say a good many of them wouldn't make it at all. Even here my arguments were mainly around the opinion that they were better than what we had in the team at the time -like Sheehan. In his case it's still up to him. He has the ability but needs to show the attitude consistently to establish himself at Oldham and perhaps later at Championship level. Mattock and Stearman reached that level - Stearman has even flirted with the Premiership - and I'd rate Sheehan as better in many respects and potentially better all round. Porter had a perfectly satisfactory start in League football here and will fall out of contention for reasons other than football as most of us are aware. Stearman has arguably been one to go onto better things though he needs to keep improving. I don't think I've ever suggested anyone else was as good as or better than the level we're currently playing at. Dodds has done exactly as I expected, finishing top or second top scorer for lower League clubs. I only maintained that he was a better option for our team at the time than Horsfield, Cadamarteri, DeVries etc and I still believe that. Gradel is still very young and at a new club. But I expect him to establish himself, given chance, and to compete both at the top of Division One and in the Championship. The player I most championed along with Porter, Sheehan and Gradel, was Andy King and he's still here. He helped us win the Academy play-off title, helped us win promotion and is now help keep us in the chasing pack having been on the losing side very few times in all those campaigns. I've always claimed we'd have narrowly escaped relegation had we used him earlier and still firmly believe that. How much further he can go remains to be seen and I make no predictions. He's an intelligent, level-headed guy, and I have no doubts that he will continue to listen, learn and improve. Other than that I thought Ryan Beswich deserved a chance here but didn't get one. He was injury prone, seemed to upset Taggart and disappeared into oblivion soon afterwards. I never made any claims for him other than that he was better bet than Laczko at the time and could strike an accurate free kick or a telling pass. But having dropped into non-League football I don't expect he'll come through late any more than Billy McKay who I always thought was talented, hard-working but too small to be a striker and perhaps more suited to midfield. Ashley Chambers had ability, no question, but I've long been of the view that he's too injury plagued to make it at a high level although I'd always like to be proved wrong. Wesolowski was another whose progress suffered through injury. Logan seems to have got himself into a dead end as Weale's deputy but would still probably make someone a decent goalkeper and Sappleton is doing about as I expected at Macclesfield. I didn't epecially rate either Worley or Odhiambo. Which pretty much covers them all and no-one has particularly surprised me except for Porter who seems to have voluntarily wrecked his career and Gradel who I thought would get a freer role and a better chance at Leicester.
Babylon Posted 25 October 2009 Posted 25 October 2009 So a couple of good games two years down the line and suddenly it's point proved..... Forgetting the god knows how many shit reports he got inbetween. Plus your favourite Grayson bombing him out of Leeds. Give me strength.
Daggers Posted 25 October 2009 Posted 25 October 2009 I'd always like to be proved wrong You always are.
Corky Posted 25 October 2009 Posted 25 October 2009 According to the League Paper, we've signed Gradel on a month's loan from Leeds.
