Max Gradel

According to the League Paper, we've signed Gradel on a month's loan from Leeds.

It amazes me how much shit journalism there is around! Its so easy to do a little check that the info is actually factual!

I think pearson has got it wrong with gradel, but I also think the manager is more important to the club than a single player ever will be.

So if pearson has made the decision not to use gradel then so be it, pearson is proving himself on average points per game so far and has earned the right to keep making these decisions.

I suspect if gradel plays well all month for leeds he will have a shot here this season.

Why's that? The overwhelming impression on here has been that we don't need him and there are many who've only showed signs of missing him since he's been gone.

Our team has done perfectly well without him and I cannot see why he'd find any attraction in returning to yet another stint on the sidelines.

Just because I've always rated him doesn't mean we've any excuse for stifling his young career by keeping him and not playing him. I'd much rather him get the chance to do well at Leeds than end up like Levi.

It shouldn't matter much. The way we're going we won't be playing Leeds for at least a couple of seasons anyway. :D

I personally think tis may make NP sit up and take notice of him, a good loan speell may or may not help his chances of getting in the City team but it won't to him any worse. Give the lad a chance he deserves it.

It's got to be good.

If the loan spell up there goes well, he may or may not decide he wants to be away, but playing badly at Leeds isn't going to help him get in the City side, is it?

It's interesting he should score so soon for them. He was always been a goalscoring winger on the way through the ranks but seemed to be trying to do what he'd been told rather than playing in his natural style when in our first team.

Maybe he just wasn't secure enough or senior enough to just be himself or maybe the defensive aspect of his work in the City team simply blunted his cutting edge.

Doubtless we'll see over time but I didn't think N'Guessan had anything like the same defensive burden to carry at QPR last night...presumably because we had three effective central midfielders and didn't generally need him to be racing back to our goalline.

I've always felt City put Gradel on a long contract because they'd be able to sell him on for good money and now feel that if we got a Mattock-like offer for him we'd take it.

For me it's so ironic that Mattock was the subject of such a tempting bid because I've never believed he's is in Gradel's class as a footballer even acknowledging they play in different positions.

Because I would like him to stay and if this loan does improve him as a player as NP suggested is the whole point of it then we could benefit from having him in our squad

Our wide men, particularly Dyer, N'Guessan and Gradel are first and foremost, strikers. They are not really wingers, neither are they wide midfield players, though to be fair Dyer works hard to fulfill that role when selected.

They need to be deployed in forward positions, preferably on the 'wrong' flank, ie right footed players on the left and vice versa. They can start in wide positions giving the side width and will from time take on the fullback on the outside but primarily their job is to cut inside on their stronger foot. They attack the corner of the box which gives them options, a cross, short pass or shot are all possible.

Look at DavieG's highlights, N'Guessan's cross for the first goal and Waghorn, who can also play from wide, almost putting in N'Guessan with a cross to the far post are glorious examples.

Gradel's impact at Bournemouth came in this way, on the left flank, and it appears that Friday was the first time we tried anything along these lines. Waghorn, primarily left footed pulled out to the right and N'Guessan coming in off the left, magic!

And I bloody well missed it! Shit.... :frusty: :frusty:

That's long been mentioned in relation to Gradel but he's never been given the chance to play on the left, for whatever reason.

From a Leeds fan:

"Gradel - 8.75/10 Put over some great crosses, scored a great goal and even filled in a right back when Bromby was still getting back. Sign him up!! Hes the something different that Leeds have lacked for so long. He appears to love us and if he keeps up with these cameo performances we will love him!!"

Totally agree with the left flank point.

I sometimes play on the right wing but hate it. Switched one game to the left and had one of the best games I'd ever had.

It makes a big difference.

Obviously the lads playing like he's got a point to prove.

I think he'll stay another month and then come back and slot right into our first team.
