CosbehFox Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I actually felt it was a poorer game full stop than Saturdays.
Benji Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Great second half, we should be starting with that team. Howard again won about 1 header that wasn't either a foul or to no one, time for him to sit on the bench. Gallagher was brilliant, he came on and had a few shots, who cares if they were to the keeper it was bloody intent. From what i've seen this year, the quality of the championship is TERRIBLE
McFoxy Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Not too excited about being three points off top spot because the top 12 is so tight, nice three points.Good to see Gallagher getting his first goals for us and he has to start against Reading on the back of that. Better to be there than playing catchup. Its all points we don't need to recover to be in with a shout
Darkzzz_ Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Brilliant Gallagher. He needs to start. What a goal as well. Good lad. Very pleased that we decided to actually go for it in the second half. Loved it when the kop sang "Warnock, Warnock give us a wave" and when he obliged he was greeted with "willy puller, willy puller, willy puller!"
Finnegan Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Loved it when the kop sang "Warnock, Warnock give us a wave" and when he obliged he was greeted with "willy puller, willy puller, willy puller!" Was top draw, I nearly fell out of my seat giggling. Fair play to the chap, I'm not a fan but it was amusing.
Budweiser Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Very pleased we picked up the 3 points tonight, the most important thing at the end of the day. The first half was the worst 45 minute performance from City this season. We were struggling to pass and the movement of the whole team was pathetic. Howard, words cannot describe. I have been able to handle his performances up until now, but I cannot defend him any longer. Gallagher was quality when he came on and his goal was breathtaking. Neilson aswell, absolute shite. He tries so hard, but is just not good enough. Morrison was doing fine! Gallagher & Fryatt upfront on Monday please. I believe I saw Bilo in K today? With the missus. Either that or im dreaming.
jonw88 Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Brilliant Gallagher. He needs to start. What a goal as well. Good lad. Definitely should be started up front next game, maybe we might even try a 4-3-3 for once, would like to see a top 3 of Gallacher - Kermogant - Fryatt with Wellens, King and Oakley in the middle, we have all these strikers so may as well use them in a more attacking formation.
Thracian Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I can't imagine it was meant but as tactics go if was a stroke a genius... Bore the fans to sleep in the first half and lure the opposition into believing they were on easy street. Then hit them with pace, movement and the brilliance that was Paul Gallagher. Gallagher was out on his own as our hero tonight. The man most alert to gobble up the rebound after Fryatt's woeful penalty had been saved and then the most imaginative and inch perfect flighted shot over the Palace goalkeeper from way out near the wing for his second. I'll rate him a 10 tonight because you could hardly ask more of a 45-minute contribuition than he produced tonight. A brace of goals to secure us three points, a shoot-on-sight attitude which woke and warmed the crowd and an influence in his roving role that Palace had no idea how to subdue. I'd have loved to have been an invisible presence in the dressing room at half-time as Pearson ventred his feelings about what he and the Walkers faithful had been subjected to. The first half made it 135 minutes without a serious shot counting Saturday's disgrace and was, if anything more turgid than the Derby offering. Watching Howard was like watching a shire horse alongside Beamers and Audis on the M1 and with Fryatt also well shackled we looked as likely to break them down as an infant baby would break down a beach hut with his plastic spade. Whatever was said Pearson sure got his message across. Gallagher's introduction for Dyer might not have been universally popular - there were plenty playing worse than Dyer - but it had immediate effect because Gallagher looked like he'd taken the field with a belt full of bullets and had every intention of firing the lot. He turned up on the right, on the left and in the box with instant shots and deft passes although our eventual breakthrough in the 58th minute owed nothing to astute football. Brown I think it was tapped a pass to Gallagher who was clumsily felled on the inside edge of the box for a no-debate penalty. The normally reliable Fryatt hit it tamely at the keeper but Gallagher pounced on the rebound and did well to keep the ball down in steering it into the net. Pearson, for once, didn't let up and sent on Waghorn and DJ for Howard and Fryatt and they were a constant menace to the Palace defence. Indeed, DJ might well have scored within minutes of his arrival when he sprinted totally clear but finally failed to chip the goalkeeper who deserved some credit for his positioning and for makin himself "big". The Palace relief didn't last as Gallagher chipped his brilliant second and DJ threatened further goals with a couple more runs one of which would have again left him completely clear but for a poorly flighted pass. Whatever the story of his absence DJ's renewed enthusiasm is marvellous news for City because his pace is going to be a potential trump card. With him, Gallagher and Waghorn finishing as our front three, Palace were suddenly having to cover the width of the field and the gaps in between and they didn't look up to it. Defensively it was another clean sheet which would have made it a memorable debut for left-back McGivern who made his contribution but will doubtless play better games. The big achievement for the defence was limiting Palace to so few shots and very little that you would describe as a chance. A second half I'm sure every City fan enjoyed after an absolutely appalling first 45. But the right result and well deserved in the end.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I can give a unbias view of the game, i stood in the Palace end ( My mate is a steward ) First half Palace played better but had no end product. Leicester passing was shocking. 2nd half Leicester were worthy winners, we played it around alot more and Gallagher was the difference not just by scoring 2 goals but getting the ball moving and going forward everytime he had it. Even the Palace fans were bigging up how Gallagher was tearing them apart. Most Palace fans were saying Leicester are a good side, only lost twice, will be in the play offs and so they were always gonna lose. I was stood at the back and they had about 30 of them singing but their support was on a whole shite. Really enjoyed watching a good second half.
Guest Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I believe I saw Bilo in K today? With the missus.Either that or im dreaming. I think I saw Bluefoxtim in L. We should play "Spot the FTer". It is more fun, most of the time.....
Guest Mee-9 Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Excellent Nuff said. Gallaghers 2nd has to be the best goal i've seen for a while.
Bluefoxtim Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Was top draw, I nearly fell out of my seat giggling. Fair play to the chap, I'm not a fan but it was amusing. I love Warnock. What a class thing for him to do 1st half was woeful. Gallagher changed the game and had more shots than the entire team put together. 10/10 Can't persist with Howard any longer. He was effective last season, but is just too one dimensional in this division, especially given his age. McGivern had a solid debut.
Darkzzz_ Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Was top draw, I nearly fell out of my seat giggling. Fair play to the chap, I'm not a fan but it was amusing. I actually like Warnock, just because he is a cock.
jonthefox Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 definatly a game of 2 halfs. i would love to know what np said at half time. when are we going to get a new penalty taker? what was the crack with the yanks at half time btw? was out of view getting a pasty and a piss.
CosbehFox Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Campbell's miss was a shocker. He delayed his shot that long, he never had opportunity to shape his body for the shot. Just a complete lack of technique.
Thracian Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Campbell's miss was a shocker. He delayed his shot thatlong, he never had opportunity to shape his body for the shot. Just a complete lack of technique. He tried to stay calm and make sure but gave the goalkeeper chance to close down his angle and fill up the shooting space. What I liked was that he made the chance, something no-one was threatening to do and he almost did it again minutes later with another excellent run.
StanSP Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I actually like Warnock, just because he is a cock. So you like cock (s) ?
Corky Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I think we had the highest attendance in the division tonight. That's a good effort
Fox You Forest Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Appalling first half I thought Dyer was one of the better performers so a bit hard on him to be the one to make way for Gallagher. There wasn't a lot of quality football out there, Crystal Palace were on a par with Derby and so many of our players are off formwith miss-timed/placed passes. The ref and linesman on the West side were both shocking. Gallagher's 2nd was sublime and Fryat's penalties have been found out he can't just keep hitting them down the middle. Significantly more effort in the 2nd half and with Waghorn/DJ a lot more pace. From a football perspective can't say I saw or enjoyed much of it save Gallagher's goal but a win's a win. How long did it take for the Lino to give that throw in decision , It happens every game that they're waiting for the refs to give decisions for a throw and then sticking the flag up after the ref has decided, obviously not for that long though, It really annoys me. Great finish by Gallagher.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock unhappy with the penalty: "It was a Sunday league tackle for the penalty but the lad who scored the goal was three yards inside the box when it was taken. "Rules are rules. We've heard all week about a beach ball and then they allow a goal like that. He brushed past the referee on his way into the area so he can't say he hasn't seen it." bbc sport Nice too see Mr Warnocks up to his tricks again
FilboFox Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Great second half, great effort from the lads to pounce on the chances and come away with a valuable win. 3 points off the top spot and just 1 off the play-offs!
maddog Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Campbell's miss was a shocker. He delayed his shot thatlong, he never had opportunity to shape his body for the shot. Just a complete lack of technique. Please you can't call Dj Campbell. He's hardly played and within seconds of coming on made a fantastic run, stayed on side, and was in. All beacause of his pace. Yes he missed the chance, but had he been match sharp he would have bagged it. He is easily a better option currently than the slow Fryatt, who hasn't scored in 5 games and missed the penalty. So harsh to call him, it's the first time he's been in that postion for god knows how long, come on Cardiff Fox, he made a fantastic run and was in, imagine if he had played the full 90 today, he may have been in that position 3 or 4 times and scored 1 or 2. Jesus come on.
potter3 Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 That win was all down to Wayne Brown's awesome flick.
lildave3 Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Dreadful first half, nothing more needs to be said. Second half though, fair play to Pearson. He's thrown on Gallagher and he's won a pen (what a flick by Wayne Brown though ), scored the rebound and then scored another. Not sure where Speroni was off for the second though, but it was very well executed. Fryatt I thought was poor. Especially his penalty! 3rd penalty in a row he's gone straight down the middle, just foolish. Erm, what else... Thought King was very good again, and the rest of the midfield upped their game once we went 1-0 up. Seemed more determined and sharper. Oh, and DJ's first touch is dreadful.
Nick Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 First half started where Saturday's second half finished. Non dynamic play. Diagonal Balls up to a Steve Howard who was winning stuff but due to pressure in the air, unable to direct his "flick-ons" anywhere of use to a Fryatt who looked both short in pace and arial ability due to having little service. After a nice cold bottle of Peroni and a large plate of chilli and rice in the Lounge, trudged out for the second half like a man on his way home to tell his wife that the marriage is over. I have been one of Howard's greatest ambassadors but the last two games he has been marked heavily and we've had no other game plan going forward. The second half brought balls passed down the channel, both lobbed and on the floor. Space and movement was created in the final third, unlike derby where we often looked like Brazil the way the defenders retained the ball before hoofing it up the field like lost little boys, panicking with the responsibility of controlled distribution. Paul G won the penalty. Fryatt missed the Penalty. Paul G followed in and scored. And then did it again, in a fashion that was remarkable, 30 plus, looping yards - there's nobody else in our current squad who'd have put that away. Big Sam said he was one of the the best strikers of the football, at his last club, but with the big money being spent was not going to be a first team regular. Now we have more than youtube videos to suggest this may be true. Ryan did well. Robbie was his usual self but credit where it's due a great tackle in the penalty area dispossessing what was likely going to be a shot on target with only the keeper to beat. Wayne Brown is the Sweet Lord Jesus re-incarnate. Wayne wins everything in the air. Keeps the line tight. Organises the players and talks talks talks (I pity the poor fella that ever dates any daughter he ever has or may have) There's a lot of talk about Wayne being slow and not being good when defenders run at him...... I'll take that criticism about him but as the last defender, he knows if he can push them away from goal on to their weaker side and make them work for the killer pass, it's a better percentage odds than diving in and missing the ball at the feet of a tricky, quick, 21 year old...... experience won over youth - and will continue to. Waghorn looked quick, lively and inventive and worked hard. DJ came on and yeah, his opportunity was saved by the keeper, but you know, his pace made that an opportunity. DJ wasn't accused of being offside today. Mainly because every single pacy sprint of a 'run off the ball' from the half way line was not noticed or the pass wasn't attempted - sometimes I think that by the time players look up, and spot DJ's run, there is only 3 seconds to get the ball to him, before the move becoming a flag waving episode. He looked sharp and had the tempo and the game continued for another 20 minutes, may well have scored. Great Result, 3 points off the top..... who in their wildest moments of realism would have dared dream that we'd be 3 points off an automatic playoff spot in October, with one of the bottom 5 clubs in the division to play next......... For me, Fryatt and Howard should start as should Dyer. They get 45 minutes to tire out the defence, do what they do well and have a go...... then for me comes the pace, Gallagher for Dyer and Waghorn and DJ on for the Stevie and Matty...... I want to keep giving them more time, preferably the whole second half and if they keep up the business of pace and goals..... they should start. Some may argue that they are first choice strikers already... I say keep dangling that carrot. Berner didn't make the bench today. Maybe he was being rested - he's impressed me by and large this season. Roll on Reading. N.
