Shocking first half, all too reminiscent of the Levein/Kelly/Holloway eras. The boos at half-time were no more than the team deserved.

But credit to Pearson for the substitution which turned the game. Gallagher fired the team up and made us a genuine threat. He deserves to start as a central striker at Reading.

Palace folded after the second went in, and with half-decent passes from the midfield the victory margin could have been greater.

Despite form which has rarely risen above indifferent, we find ourselves very much in the promotion mix. And if Forest can manage to put five straight wins together, there's no reason why we shouldn't seek to do the same.

My initial thought when Gallagher shot from 30 or so yards was *What the fuck are you playing at son?* - I certainly felt like a numpty afterwards.

As for the game, in the past we'd have lost games like these. It's nice to see us win even when we are playing mediocre. The night was made even sweeter when I heard Liverpool lost. And I won a few quids in bettings. Happy days.

Doesn't want to show ours <_<

They're bloody useless. If we were playing Newcastle they'd have shown them.

Also Palace's fans were terrible, they had one chant all game which lasted for like 10 minutes. I know they may not be the most well supported club but there was a decent amount there and you'd expect some sort of atmosphere from them.

Our own Atmosphere wasnt much better until we scored so why slag off them?

1st half was total shite.

Gally changed the game and not just cos of his goals.

Was Oakley playing?

Capt needs abit of a 'rest' i think...

Howard+Fryatt was good in LG1 but just aint upto it in this League.

When we TRY and play football on the floor (and not just hoof it up to Howard for him to do nothing with it) we actually look a decent team.

We got some fresh young players-Pity some of the older more established players are still getting a look in....When they just shouldnt be

So harsh to call him, it's the first time he's been in that postion for god knows how long, come on Cardiff Fox, he made a fantastic run and was in, imagine if he had played the full 90 today, he may have been in that position 3 or 4 times and scored 1 or 2.

Jesus come on.

Every day at training he practices that kind of thing and he's had the odd reserve game. Proper goalscorers eat them chance for breakfast. It was poor, the reason he was onside and the opportunity came about was because the defender missed his header.

Has for Fryatt, I feel sorry for him he worked hard last night but needs to time his runs better. First half the midfield didn't support and then second half his striker partner was as poor.

As for Waghorn I thought he was poor, didn't touch the ball and he was the wrong side of the defender too.

To be fair to both Neison and the fans who moan, I've find him, especially tonight, to be a little Bramble-esque. Fine for 80-95% of the game and then he'll inexplacably make a strange or shocking mistake, and end up totally at sea.

I thought he did the basics well tonight. Granted, there was one instance in the 2nd half where he allowed the ball to bounce (schoolboy error) but he made up for it with the tackle.

There was also an instance where the Palace forward had a one on one clear run into goal but he made a superb tackle.

Granted he will never set the world on fire and he is not very fast however, he tackles well when players run at him he makes very good tackles. His long throws are too much in the air and the bigger defenders head them away easily. However, he was not the worst players for City last night.

That accolade goes to Fryatt, Howard and Oakley.

What is it with Oakley? Time and time again his passing was woeful straight to the opposition or just out to noone. We need a new free kick taker and corner kicker his delivery is quite shocking!

Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock on the penalty:

"It was a Sunday league tackle for the penalty but the lad who scored the goal was three yards inside the box when it was taken.

"Rules are rules. We've heard all week about a beach ball and then they allow a goal like that. He brushed past the referee on his way into the area so he can't say he hasn't seen it."

Can he ever accept that a goal has been conceded? All I ever hear lately is Neil Warnock moaning about how he has been cheated in various ways! (apart from the obvious phantom goal).

First half was one of the worst I've seen in a long time with both sides looking nothing more than sunday park teams.

Second half we decided to play a bit and were worthy winners.

I'm happy to admit I've not made as many games as some on here but in some ways I was reminded of the first game of the season when we we played long balls in the air for most of the first half and then played quicker passes on the floor combined with better movement in the second and ended up worthy winners again.

Defensively we looked sound and this was exactly the type of game Brown revels in, where he isn't going to be exposed by pacey strikers with the ball played to their feet.

Midfield still doesn't look right to me. Are Wellens and King the right combination? Oakley on the right drifted all over the place and in the first half Neilsen was left exposed on several occasions. Our midfield gives the ball away far too easily and though King seems the most reliable at retaining possession this seems to be totally at the expense of any attacking intent. As we have no central midfielders with the ability to dip their shoulder and run past players this means we have to have more mobility up front than that provided by Howard and Fryatt. Who should play wide? Truthfully I don't know and I'm not sure Pearson does either.

However, he does seem to have the "winning" trick of making changes that have a positive outcome and the result was a good one with several positives to take from the second half.

I'm delighted with how well our results are going but more of the second half and a lot less of the first will be needed to maintain our position.

A real game of two halves this. Absolutely shocking first half, never seen anything like it. Second half showed good spirit and determination, and two brilliant goals for Gallagher. Howard was a no-show and i have no idea whats wrong with Oakley (and has been for a few games now).

Did not go last night, so cannot in all honesty comment on the details of the game, so a few general points.

First half sounded very much like what I saw on saturday, particularly the second half.

With the change in personnel the backline remained solid if uninspired, still too much 'hoof'.

The midfield is lopsided and disjointed. Oakley and Wellens seen to be playing to instructions so complex that they have forgotten the basics of the game. Dyer was easily our most potent attacker, despite the (quite un-necessary) defensive duties piled on him.

Howard and Fryatt were once again totally ineffective, neither of them have any pace and neither 'show' for balls played in on the floor. For a team trying to develop a passing game this is complete nonsense.

Second half brought the Gallagher substitution. Hopelessly wrong in concept, it, and the injection of some energy, got us the penalty. Fryatt fluffed it, Gallagher got away with encroachment and we are 1 up.

It got really interesting when Pearson got permission from which ever deity looks after useless strikers, to sub off Howard and Fryatt and bring on some pace.

Although obviously not wingers, Waghorn and DJ stretched Palace side to side and front to back, all orchestrated by an increasingly confident Gallagher who came in off the left flank and played all across our front line. The goal was a peach and shows a degree of awareness that we really need.

I know I have said this a dozen times over the last few weeks but Gallagher is a center forward, not wide player or a midfielder. Admittedly he is not a speed merchant playing on the last man but he is a skillful, thoughtful player who makes things happen and brings his team mates into the game. Flank him with pace, as was the case in the last half hour and things will get really interesting!

Come on NP, you have had a glimpse at the future, time to grab it with both hands!

This.

I felt we only really got a chance to play once we'd got the goal from the penalty. After that, Palace had to go for it a bit more, granting more space in the middle of the park for us to actually use and play.

Loved the cheer for DJ when he came on. It's amazing how football fans work. A player can be benched and not play for a long time. Suddenly, people imagine him to be the answer and cheer his arrival like he's the messiah. As soon as came on, I was talking about Leyton Orient away last season when he missed one of the worst chances I've ever seen. I said there and then he'd miss a good chance in this match. Low and behold, a few seconds later, he's put clean through, one-on-one and misses. Granted, it was his first touch, so he can be excused for a bit of rustiness, but good old DJ, true to form.

Not that impressed by the second half, still alot of our passing in the last third was sloppy. It was a definite improvement on the first half, our crossing, set pieces and dead ball situations are still very poor, the movement upfront was very timid, but the win will definitely give us a confidence boost for monday, let's just hope Pearson will still be with us!!

Well you had a good go!! :D

Naturally, it is what I do........ :D

But my comments were more general than if I had been at the game, apart from praising the impact of Gallagher and bemoaning the lack of the same from Howard and Fryatt I have hardly commented on individual performances.

From the commentary it would appear that our defense was reasonably solid, Oakley and to a degree Wellens were way off their best and Howard and Fryatt were at their worst.

More than that I can not say..... ;)

What a shite advert for championship football, especially from us. You can't really call us a football team because we don't play any. The boos were fully deserved for a dismal effort in the first half. It's a miracle that we still get crowds of 20,000+ when we continue to play such dross. The second half wasn't much better, fortunately we had one player that was a cut above the rest of the crap on the pitch.

Enjoyed the second half - great second goal from Gallagher.

Only thing that spoiled the game somewhat for me was the old guy behind me who has been a bit racist in the past berating Campbell when he missed. I berate players myself at times, but what has it got to do with the colour of their skin?

I gave him a mouthful. Apparently, if it was a white player, he would have called him a white so n so though, so it's all ok...

Should have taken advantage of that scheme that was going on.

First game I've been to in a long while. I've made these decuctions:

- Oakley is ineffective and virtually anonymous at times.

- Wayne Brown won absolutely everything in the air. Very imposing.

- Robbie Neilson attracts a great deal of criticism without doing that much wrong.

- Steve Howard should not be starting.

- Ryan McGivern looked solid.

- The people sitting behind me were a right pair of moaning old codgers who really should know better. Reminds me why I don't go to City as often as I should. I hate our fans.

with the way we play we kinda have to start him.

It was this that put me on a downer after todays win actually. :(

Infamously poor on tv.

And against a reading team in need of a win and a QPR team in need of drug testing lol.

don't forget that its more than a week away so they'll have a new manager by then. :P

How many one on ones has Fryatt missed since hes been here? Is he not a proper goalscorer? Just because its DJ he gets slated for missing one.

If that had been Matty no one would be talking about it today. I didnt feel sorry for Fryatt last night HE was poor.

I haven't defended Fryatt's goalscoring ability and his effort was evidently there.

Campbell has missed those chances on repeated occasion. At Hillsborough, Orient, S****horpe.

He's scored from chances too and will score for us given chance. His pace was electric and exactly what we've needed to disturb defences.
