MC Prussian Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Hmm. They were simply better than us, although we started brightly. Waghorn and Fryatt had a few really good chances. Then the freak free-kick that passed through and West Brom's second was a stunner. We simply lost the bite with Oakley and King off and I wonder what we're going to do in midfield against Plymouth and beyond (given King is out for a longer period of time). And why do we always play better away from home than at the Walkers? Then again, a game that we could lose. And so we did. Looking forward to the Argyle game, should be more of a cracker.
Edmund Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Shame Gallagher missed a sitter seems that it proved costly and we could have nicked a draw. Can't really complain though we lost to one of the best teams in the league.
Jonezy Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Oh well, can't win them all, and WBA did sound like they were the better team. Who is going into centre mid against Plymouth with Oakley suspended, if King is out for a while?

Hitesh Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 I think we can't get down over a result like this. OK, we didn't get anything out of but to be honest, they're a good team and are one of the fav's to go up so we can still hold our heads up. The good thing to take out is that we are still creating chances. It will be interesting to see how the Plymouth game goes - it would be a great show of character if we can come back with a win and a good performance. Hopefully we won't lose much momentum from this!
City_4_Life Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Dissapointed to lose, has i always am when we do. Sounded like we were beaten simply by the better team, dont really know what more to say. If Gallagher takes his chance at the start of the second half maybe we could of got something out of it. Long International break now to the next game which hopefully we can bounce back.
MPH Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Berner and wellens in the middle against plymouth then i guess?
DeclanMC Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 What was the commotion about at the end of the match? Disappointed to lose, if oakley hadn't gave away that free kick, and we hadn't backed off for their 2nd, we would have had a point. They didn't have much to offer after that in my opinion.
Bert Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Oakley's banned after picking up his fifth booking of the season too.

You got back quick to write that!
Webbo Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Imo a draw wouldn't have been an injustice. They scored a flukey free kick and a long range shot that the keeper should have saved. They never really carved us open. Pretty even I thought.
samlcfc Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 They werent as good as i expected them to be to be hones. Although we were pretty waful in some respects. Seemed to totally lost any enthusiasm for the game in the last 20 minutes and they just played it around us. Really pissed me off at the end when carson and olsson ran infront of the kop and started celebrating. Takes a proper dickhead to do that knowing the people they are doing it to cant do ote back. Then our players shook their hands. Was not a happy guy
C-man Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Very disappointed with the way we played today. Thought it would be a real test for us today and honestly I didn't think we'd fail that badly. We could have lost 5-0 if WBA had gone for it second half - we really were in trouble at the back. Hopefully it will act as a reality check for our players and our fans. It'd be harsh to criticise the management considering how their hands were pretty much tied after an apparent injury to Oakley (surely not tactical) and then a critical blow with King suffering a broken arm. We did try and play football but we were so so guilty of trying to do too much in and around the area. Just shoot! They did twice from 20 and scored two, and our goal came from a free-kick shot. Wellens is probably the biggest culprit for not having a go but at times I really felt sorry for him today. Countless times he looked left and right and saw zero movement. That's where WBA were a class above. Can someone explain to me, as I have no idea, how West Brom managed to keep incredible width throughout the game but remain strong and competitive in central midfield? Every time we tried to create width and space, one mistake led to a huge gaping hole in midfield which let them run at us and ultimately cost us the second goal. In terms of individual performances I saw no outstanding players, but there were some truly woeful shows. To pick on two - Neilson, having praised him twice last week was appalling and McGivern just reeks of inexperience. We're by no means the finished article, but we are trying to play in the right way and I still feel we can be successful in doing so. However, we do really need to bounce back against Plymouth even without Oakley and King. Before anyone loses it, we're still having a great season - enjoy it - you should have at least enjoyed the way West Brom passed and moved.
morris1234 Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 A lot of ball watching cost us the game today, but its west brom so you cant complain too much. They are a premier league side to be fair and they were the best team. Carson and olsson at the end took the pi*s with their celebration, i dont see how thats any different to what nathan tyson did it the derby game, they came right up to he kop, fists clenched and shouting at us! wa*kers! i have come to a conclusion though....robbie nielson - bag of the brown stuff! no first touch, no strength, no leap, no pace, no passing ability, no vision, no common sense. typical long ball scottish league player!

I actually think he's improved no end, his defending today was decent enough and that's what he's there for. Some of his tackles today were perfect. Even though he's not the most gifted going forwards, at least he gives it a go (even though i'd rather he didn't some times).
Ajax Treesdown Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Oh well, can't win them all, and WBA did sound like they were the better team.Who is going into centre mid against Plymouth with Oakley suspended, if King is out for a while? Yussuf, Schlupp & Co STEP FORWARD!!!
Captain... Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 We have come back well from our 2 other defeats this season, Pearson will keep things in perspective, we have lost to one of the few teams that are better than us in this league. The fans don't seem too down about it so neither should the players and I expect a good performance against plymouth. It does show that we are probably not going to be title contenders this season, but we should still be aiming for the playoffs
maddog Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 It was simply another shit home performance. We made it far too easy for West Brom, giving them way too much space and time, they weren't exactly fantastic. Stupid free kick rolled along the floor past everyone shocking. Then stupid backing away allowed a cracking shot, why we don't shoot in those positions when we get the chance il never know. 2nd half we created a lot of chances and had a lot of corners, our luck was 0 today. Had Gallagher scored that tap in we would have probably got a draw, or possibly won. No luck today.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Disapointed as a loss always is. But we were outclassed. WBA kept their squad from the prem, and that's why they will run away with the league. Newcastle are beatable, Middlesboro we have beat. We won't be playing another team of WBA's class. As said on Radio leicester - They bought a sub on they had payed 2.5m for. A blow is that king and oakley are injured. But after the break we can recouperate then bounce back. All is bright on the horizon i think. Have to admit tho. DAISYCUTTER!!@@
dandannieldanok Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Disappointing, we were outclassed undoubtedly but we could have made it a lot more difficult. It's virtually impossible to chase the game against a team like that because with the space we left they just took the piss really. The softness of the goals was annoying but the result was fair. As with a lot of football matches, the game was won and lost in midfield.
Fosse Boy Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Points from today's game: 1) Never underestimate the power of a really poorly taken free kick. 2) Robbie Neilson really seriously needs to learn how to keep the ball under control if he's ever to be taken seriously as a right back in this division. 3) We allowed ourselves to get boxed in down the middle, took too much time on the ball and didn't get it wide quickly enough. This cost us. 4) I hope never to be involved in such a disgracefully observed minute's silence again in my entire life. 5) The Black Country pronunciation of "Leicester" is cringeworthy. 6) Marlon King will destroy Mattock in HMP Gartree. 7) We can't win 'em all, West Brom are a good side when all's said and done. 8) There's only one Ric Flair.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Yeah what was with the minutes silence? Was shambolic, so poorly observed?
Matt Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Disappointed, Not sure at what just feel abit angry and disappointed, We didn't play bad infact I think we were the better team in the first half. Despite being 2-0 down and some may say we'd already lost the game, and although it wasn't all his fault and he wasn't to blame for being 2-0 down I have to put the blame with Gallagher - If only he had scored (And come on, any most of us could have scored that) it would have been a much different game, who knows we may still have lost but I feel only if he had scored we could have scrapped the draw atleast.
Fosse Boy Posted 7 November 2009 Posted 7 November 2009 Yeah what was with the minutes silence? Was shambolic, so poorly observed? All the idiots around us in L1 who started all this "Ingurlund! Ingurlund! Ingurlund!" bollocks really ought to be ashamed. There were people just generally deciding to have a chat all around the stadium too. Disgraceful.
