Koke Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 Anish is right. Whilst WBA are not Arsenal they are still miles better than us. They attacked with intent and tempo. Luke Moore and Jerome Thomas could have scored a couple of goals each. The victory was well deserved. We would have gone away with a sluggish performance like that against Reading [which we did] but West Brom punished us. Lesson learned. As for Pearson's bench selection. I don't think he could have foreseen TWO central midfielders getting injured. With Oakley playing RM he would have slotted into CM if King only got injured, no problems. It was just an unfortunate set of events, really. I think Pearson is counting on the fact that a few of our players are versatile and can play a few positions. I don't think his bench selection is as bad as some make it out to be.
BWRL Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 Does anybody have any video of the Carson celebration at the end?
Corky Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 Beaten by the better side- we weren't awful at all, second half we tried, just scored too late. If Gallagher had scored straight after the break then it could well've been a different story. We aren't going to be playing that quality every week, I can take defeat against West Brom. What we need to do is beat Plymouth, it's the matches against the sides near the bottom that will determine our position come May. So fair play Baggies, you deserved it, we need to pick ourselves up and get on with the next match.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 I think this game provided a good reflection on just how good we are. Outclassed, in every department, really. We just dont seem to have any real desire. Pity we don't have the same spirit as the Tigers, who are PROUD to pull on the famous shirt. Perhaps Richard Cockerill should come and have a talk with the City players about team spirit, and passion!
foxaholic Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 I couldn't tell who was chanting at the start of the minutes silence, I thought it was the West Brom fans. Shocks me that it was L1, our fans are usually quite good at things like that. Tbh I don't think it was arranged too well, there should have been a whistle or something. I think the Albion fans thought the end of the last post was it . should have been done other way around
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 I think as long as we beat Plymouth yesterday's result won't be too bad. But there does need to be a few improvements. Constantly when an opposing player has the ball and is moving forward we all back off and give them the chance to shoot. We were lucky that against QPR their shooting was not great except their goal. Against WBA the same thing happened again. Yes, Weale should have had it but was anyone putting in a lot of effort to stop the shot? I also think we need to start having more longshots. We get the ball on the edge of the area and no one wants to shoot just try and walk it in. Wellens is probably the worst at this.
Head Honcho Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 9 points from 12 is still a good return so no complaints from me and the fact that I have WBA for the league never entered my head
maddog Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 Like someone said, we had a lot of chances in the 2nd half and we could have scored goals. I said after the game had Gallagher scored his tap in, everything may have been different, we could have won it 5-2. I think it's fair to say we dominated the 2nd half, although West Brom had their chances, we certainly seemed to have the majority of the play, a lot of corners, a lot more chances than them, and obviously Gallaghers miss proved crucial. Once again it was a case of us cheaply wasting good chances, we even missed a few at QPR when we won. Still the first half performance was another very poor 1st half. You could argue we've played badly in the 1st half at the Walkers against Swansea, Barnsley, P'Boro, Preston, Derby, Palace and West Brom. The quality of Preston and West Brom troubled us, but theres no excuse for the 1st half performances against the other sides. We've done well in 2nd halves at home though, it's about time we combined the 2 at the Walkers and had a good 90 minutes. I missed the Blackpool game, so perhaps we did it then.

You really are pompous , If you think Leicester were not trying then you really should not post on here. We are in a play off position with a third of the season gone and have played all the top sides along the way, yesterday we were beaten by a better side in the baggies and I think they will be champions by a mile come May. What is all this Tigers rubbish about pulling on the shirt of course they get stuck in its just a mass brawl that what rugby unon is.
GloverFox Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 ... WBA were better than us ...! ... what a complete load of shit! ... and as for ther minutes silence business, it was a complete and utter disgrace ... I don't care if it was LC fans or WBA fans; it was a total and utter disgrace and the people in involved should be ashamed (but I think they don't giive a shit! period and as such I hope they reap what they sow) the positives from yesterday (21:30 on Sunday and I've only just got home from the game ... !) in my opinion were massive ... and whilst we're not ready for promotion yet its clear we're finally moving in the right direction. As for Carson and his pathetic antics towards the end of the game ... what a complete and utter arsehole, I actually rated the guy previous to this game but he acts like a spoilt two year old.
lou Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 The minutes silence thing was a MISUNDERSTANDING! Once people realised they were supposed to be silent after the Last Post the silence was observed perfectly. I didnt sing but a lot of fans around us didnt know it was starting straight away and were genuinely mortified they had broken it. They usually blow a whistle to start it. As for the game we werent that bad just not one of our better days and injuries didnt help. I didnt think West Brom were that amazing to be honest. Just efficient. Had a lovely time at the Pump and Tap too with a gorgeous looking fella. Pity hes only about 6 years old

Tbf I don't think they knew what was going on, just a bit of a misunderstanding. They stopped chanting once they realised no-one else was. Thats how I saw it.

Thats how I saw it. It was a misunderstanding from the WBA i believe. I didnt realise there was another silence as i guessed the WBA didnt and they started signing England England but promptly stopped when they realised it was a silence!
kimsalabim Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 Points from today's game:1) Never underestimate the power of a really poorly taken free kick. 2) Robbie Neilson really seriously needs to learn how to keep the ball under control if he's ever to be taken seriously as a right back in this division. 3) We allowed ourselves to get boxed in down the middle, took too much time on the ball and didn't get it wide quickly enough. This cost us. 4) I hope never to be involved in such a disgracefully observed minute's silence again in my entire life. 5) The Black Country pronunciation of "Leicester" is cringeworthy. 6) Marlon King will destroy Mattock in HMP Gartree. 7) We can't win 'em all, West Brom are a good side when all's said and done. 8) There's only one Ric Flair. 1: Agreed 2: Neilson is S**t 3: Typical of of when we play a good side, but only seems to happen when we play at home 4: Agreed 5: The Black Country pronunciation of ANYTHING is cringeworthy 6: Hope so 7: Why does it have to be a club i truly hate? 8: WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Raj Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 FFS we werent THAT bad!!! Could have got something, just miss that little bit extra which makes a really good team. Waggie,Fryaup,Berner,Gally all could have scored!! We just didnt look sharp enough,as if we were missing that extra 10% performance. Dont get me wrong, still think they edged it and it was a decent game at times,a few players were below par. though. Not very often i walk away after a defeat and im not that bothered but i wasn't on Sat. They did okay, considering WBA were 2 league away from us last season. Mind you that first goal was sunday league stuff....how the fcuk did it go thro??? Weale's still quality. Oaks is shite and im glad he's out for a while....mind you we've only got 2 games aint we this month??? McGivern actually played in some decent X's ,better than most. Just needed that little extra sharpness!!! Re Minutes silence..even tho Birch said after the horn they would have a minutes silence, think most people just wanted to applaud the trumpeteer cos he did a fine job...however it went from applauding him to singing and then like Lou said once they realised they should have been stum, they did!!! Up the City!!!
Fox92 Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 I think West Brom, just beating Preston, are the best team I have seen. But, I think Nigel got it wrong; Matt Oakley is never a right midfielder. And it's not fair because when he roams out of position, I mean its not its fault like, but it makes the other players look poor. To be honest, if we play 4-4-2 then we have to play two natural wingers with the best central midfield avaliable which is Wellens -- King. Sorry to Oakley, he has been a fantastic player during his career at Southampton, Derby and even Leicester but he isn't a right winger and the Wellens -- King midfield is great. West Brom attacked us, and we couldn't really deal with it. They looked like they were going to score every time they came forward. I think that Moore, Cox, Brunt everyone in that midfield and strikeforce could have scored. Bruno Berner obviousley is a natural full back and not a central midfielder. This is why I didn't rate him last season, he looks poor in midfield, the game seems to pass him. And, the goals, well lets not talk about them, the first one somehow trickled in and although the defence didn't close down Jara for the second goal, why did Weale dive? He could have stayed on his feet and just got his body behind it. Sorry, and I don't usually do this, but I do blame Weale for both goals. Now, I think, we owe Plymouth a real hammering.
Babylon Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 Bit of a strange one really, I thought West Brom were the better team footballing wise. Nice slick pass and move football and cut through us well at times. Having said that, I thought we could have come away from the game with something. We conceded two goals that should/could have been stopped by the defence or the keeper. Plus we missed a few chances that should have been converted. I came away thinking it was just one of those days, and that we won't play teams with the quality they have very often.

And yes you do usually do this you've been doing it constantly!
demon_dog Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 I sit in the kop behind the goal and felt sure that for their first goal the ball took a slight deflection, the second goal was a shot straight out of top drawer. Not many (if any) keeper could have stopped it. So to blame Weale is well out of order. Let's face it, we lost to the better team on the day, we could all say if or but or whatever regarding our missed chances, we lost, that's it onto the next game.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 With two weeks for people to moan, and moan, and moan, and moan, and moan, and moan, and moan about Saturdays loss, I wonder how many pages this thread will get to.
FantasticMrFuchs Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 West Brom had the extra quality that we lack, We were never going to win this match lets be honest. Poor bench selection no need for 4 strikers especially when Kermo & DJ were never going to get on ahead of Gally & Howard,All these strikers and only Fryatt really scoring regularly is disappointing really. So to me Dyer Or Adams should of been on the bench instead of Kermo or DJ Hurry up January transfer window ship some of the shiite out and get another goalscorer & Midfield and we can be pushing for Play Offs at best, Newcastle & West Brom are practically up already. Don't like the new L1 airport style security when there's still some folks coming over the barrier,And made my HT ciggie even more of a pain in the 'Arris Highlight of the day..... The Balti Pie

lou Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 Both West Broms goals looked really soft. I blame Chris Weale - hes the worst keeper weve ever had! Bring back David Martin!
