Jimothy Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 What's any of that got to do with this topic? Nobody's moaning about the team or the management. I think the point he's making is that a lot of us seem to like moaning so much that even when there is nothing to moan about, we find something. Can't moan about the team or manager, I know lets moan about the bloody radio commentry. We could be 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League, in the Champions League and FA Cup finals and just beat Man Utd 5-0 and some people would still find something to moan about.
Finnegan Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 If you listened to the Radio Five Live Sports Xtra commentary today and compared it against the clowns on Radio Leicester, you would realise just how poor Sinclair and Stringer were. You're kidding? I had to turn 5 Live off. I like 5 Live's grade A line up but I thought the xtra guys were just gabarge last night and listening to Blackwell's Yarkshir drawl fucked me off no end. Got no problem with Stringer, personally.
Raj Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Stringers no Nev Foulger BUT he does have passion for City and considering its his 1st year(i think) commentating he's okay really. Could be ALOT worse i.e Matty "you know" Piper!!!
Candidcamera Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 He can be in a world of his own but last nights match was late to come up on the player so I listened to 5 Live and that was dreadful. Not interested in describing what was going on at all. I was much happier with the Leics commentary.
Mort Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 The one plus is he isn't Barber... either way you'll never get decent presenters and commentators on local radio (at least not for long).
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 I think some people are lost in nostalgia and forget how bad old Nev could be... Keller............................................................ throws it to.............................................................. Matt... Elliott......................................................................... ............................... Parker now, for Leicester, plays it to.............................................................................. ........................ Guppy. Sounded sometimes like my attempts at commentary playing Sensible Soccer on the SNES; people were actually very glad to see him call it a day in 2004. There's nothing wrong with Stringer, his little tangeants are just to fill dead air, and inject a little bit of personality into his commentary. You get the idea of what's going on, although I wish people wouldn't use name frequency as a measure of how players have supposedly performed, you'll only ever get the clear picture going to matches.

Tbh, i'd rather hear that than 'Keller....who has gone for the trouser option today as opposed to the shorts, quite nice trousers too actually *makes shit trouser related pun*' and then probably miss out everything that's happening Not that i've really got a problem with Stringer, he does a job! Plus i'm usually at the game anyway so it doesn't affect me
Trav Le Bleu Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Seemed alright before, but he has become increasingly annoying over the last few weeks. Terribly unfunny and goes off on ridiculous tangents about things in no relation to the game.Sinclair is just as bad. With his 'lickle lay-offs'. Both constantly interrupting each other also. This, plus his constant "find me on twitter". You'd almost believe (I'm sure HE does) that the reason that you've tuned in is to listen to HIM. Oh, and has anyone ever tried listening to the RL coverage whilst at a match? It's amazing just how much he gets wrong, even basic stuff like which City play has got the ball (he mistook Gallagher for Dyer last night and he mistook N'guessan for Gallagher the Scunny match.)
Liamlcfc1 Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 i think Stringer is great plus he is a true fan
Monk Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 As much as I liked ol' Nev he was awful! You could switch the radio on and not know who was attacking. Nev was obsessed with the phrases 'back to goal' and 'the ball is bobbling around in the box'.
Corky Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 You're kidding? I had to turn 5 Live off. I like 5 Live's grade A line up but I thought the xtra guys were just gabarge last night and listening to Blackwell's Yarkshir drawl fucked me off no end.Got no problem with Stringer, personally. Kevin "Gallagher" Blackwell wasn't great, but the other guy, Nigel Adderley I believe, was efficient and I knew what was happening most of the time.
Shrenchel Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Oh, and has anyone ever tried listening to the RL coverage whilst at a match? It's amazing just how much he gets wrong, even basic stuff like which City play has got the ball (he mistook Gallagher for Dyer last night and he mistook N'guessan for Gallagher the Scunny match.) I think that says more about you than it does about Stringer. Unless you're an ADHD riddled child or a geriatric with fading vision, listening to the radio when you're at the game is about as mongy as it gets.
Webbo Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Stringer's all right. He's not as entertaining as he thinks he is but he's on RL, what do you expect?
Zingari Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 so long as we don't get Stuart Hall, I really don't mind Stringers ok , actually, Barber wasn't that bad , he was just unfortunate to be in the seat at our lowest ebb .
Pegosteve Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 As an expat I listen to the via Fox World to every game. I find him passionate about the club, he calls it as he says it if we are crap he tells us and he's honest e.g last night Berner should have been red carded. I think he does a good job don't knock him.
lavrentis Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Remember Sinclair with a microphone asking for opinions at an away game once walked towards me, with me clearing my throat only for him to walk straight past me Rejected. Don't mind them though.
Ron Combo Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 I like Stringer, at least he believes. Barber was unbearable. Which for local radio is going some.
marknotts Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 I preffered Jon Barber's commentary to Stringer's although I noticed that Barber sometimes seemed to be more excited when the opposition scored.

I think he does a good job don't knock him. But he was wrong on the red card. He's almost like too unbiased in attempting too avoid bias which is no bad thing I suppose regardless of how unfunny I find him and his basic errors. To me he's bit like that kid at school whose been told numerous times no-one likes him and he's no good at that, but he still keeps hanging around you and still keeps trying.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 Remember Sinclair with a microphone asking for opinions at an away game once walked towards me, with me clearing my throat only for him to walk straight past me Rejected. Don't mind them though. At the Preston game earlier this season, Sinclair walked towards me gripping his BBC mic. Asked me about Stevie Howard, Fryatt etc.. Was alright. Then some bloke standing with Jobber near the players cars shouts, "TOO RIGHT ABOUT STEVE HOWARD MATE"
isaidno Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 I think Stringer's class , a million times better than John 'the Ram ' Barber
