SOCCERROO FOX Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 If we made the play offs i would consider undertaking the logistical nightmare of re-arrange my holidays to leave early and fly to the world cup after the play offs.
Donut Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 MAGNIFICENT win at Doncaster on tuesday night, extending the run, and cementing our place in the playoffs Im still refusing to think about the playoffs though, if we are STILL up there with say, 3 games left, ill think about it. I have always said that our lack of goals will eventually be our downfall, the reason we will miss out on the playoffs But im starting to think (and i need to put these thoughts on the back burner FAST) is that we are SO hard to beat, we might just sneak our way in with our knack of getting 1-0's and being defensively miserly. Every game is a game closer to the end of the season, and we are cementing our playoff place in the process If we WERE to finish in the playoffs, with the comparitively weak squad compared to the rivals jostling for a playoff place, it would only further illustrate the truly remarkable job Pearson has done with this group of players.
ramboacdc Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 i would but i know i cant get to wembley because i know ill be working as i work in a bookmakers.
shen Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Stop talking about playoffs! You'll jinx it! That's why Nigel Pearson is now talking about automatic promotion. Talking about letting a win get to your head!
Raj Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 OH Dear maddogg what have you done!!! Great to be Optimistic but best be realistic too as these things can always backfire!!!! Gotta say though NP has performed miracles in this League with these players and its great for the wanna be managers on FT to take a back seat for a while!!! No moans about MManderic lately either so things MUST be good!!!!
Jimbo Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Some reports this morning have us down as "keeping alive our hopes of automatic promotion" Surely a little too optimistic??
Rich Fox Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Some reports this morning have us down as "keeping alive our hopes of automatic promotion"Surely a little too optimistic?? Beat Forest on saturday and were only 4 points behind them.
Jon the Hat Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 I come in here to read about a sensible optimism re the playoffs and you people have moved on to automatic promotion!!! AAAAAAAAARGH I can't take it. The thought of making the playoffs and not going up is just too nasty for words.
AmericanScott Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Now everyone is expecting play-offs. When we finish in a respectful 7th-10th everyone will say "we're so shit wtf! I ain't renewing my ST useless bunch of cnts" As much as i'd love to make the play offs, i'm not getting my hopes up just yet. Ask me when there's 5 games left and we're still in the mix. Then we'll discuss Wembley and all that.

AAAAAAAAARGH I can't take it. The thought of making the playoffs and not going up is just too nasty for words. Who's moved on to automatic promotion? At the end of the day, or rather the start of the season, if someone had offered us a place in the top 10 we'd have snapped their hands off. If we don't make playoff's then sure most of us would be disappointed because of the position we are now in. But once the dust has settled we'll all realise that we've had a great season when you consider, not just where we came from last season, but the years of rubbish before that. And anyway, at least we should be safe from relegation now!
RowlattsFox Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Nothing wrong with a bit of optimism, what footballs all about. There's difference between being optimistic and expecting it, and I'm sure if we do not finish in playoffs then there will be idiots moaning but then I think we'll have them moaning anyway. Atleast if we aim for automatic we'll be in the playoffs if we fail

Fox92 Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 I love being fifth, I love it, having been so poor the last few years, the Premiership would be great. But, to prove that we are play off quality, we need to beat the sides such as Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City. So, saturday should be great. Exciting being in the play offs though, and if it's not settled by then, 2nd May should be a good game if 'Boro go on a steaming run.
Uncle Monty Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Yes Maddog!I'll hop aboard, I think we're closer to the playoffs than we think! You have to remove Cheryl, its far too distracting

Then we'll discuss Wembley and all that. Thats not going to happen we are too far ahead of the current 7th-10th place lot and theres no way all those teams will finish above us. I hate to even think about it but if we miss out on the playoffs, it's going to be 7th place which would be gutting. But i think we're more likely to finish 4th than finish 7th now.
Wycombe Fox Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 I'm aboard - the Play-Off Final's on my birthday. What a day that could be!!! Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, we've done much better than I thought we would. I never dreamt that we'd be in this position at this stage of the season.
davieG Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Foxes boss Pearson has a cunning plan Leicester Citry can emerge late from the pack, says Nigel Pearson Martyn Waghorn helped Leicester extend their unbeaten run to seven games and kept the Foxes on course for a second successive promotion after scoring the only goal of the game at Doncaster last night. Waghorn, on-loan from Sunderland, scored his seventh goal of the season to help lift City to fifth, while Rovers have now lost five of their last eight matches. Leicester boss Nigel Pearson said: “It was one of our games in hand and when you get three points it is pleasing. “We have had some difficult away fixtures recently so it was important for us to get a good result. The important thing is that we have taken advantage of the game in hand. “We have kept a clean sheet as well, although it wasn’t always a slick game. There were tough conditions out there but we stuck at it. We were resilient when we needed to be. “It is all about results at this stage of the season. We have been around the play-offs all year but now it’s all about doing all we can to finish the season as well as possible.” Composure On Waghorn’s winner in the 12th minute, Pearson added: “We executed it really well. It was a great ball out and Waggy really did show a lot of composure to score the goal. “It turned out to be the winner but we started the game unbelievably well and the first 20 minutes were as good as we have played all season. “We put a marker down at the start of the game and it set the scene for a good win.”We will look at the fixtures and do as well as we can in those games. "First and foremost we have got to stay in the play-off positions and outside of that it's whether we can run into a significant run of form. The three teams at the top are ahead of everyone else by quite a margin. "Having said that, history would say there is always a side that comes out of the pack at some point. I don't rule anything out."

Aim for the automatic promotion and should we fail, fall back on the playoffs Realistically though even a win against Forest and automatic promotion is still extremely unlikely. A playoff place however will be within our grasp if we win Saturday.
MC Prussian Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Promotion CAN be a good thing - it all depends on how wisely you spend, how you operate on a comparatively slim budget (*OXYMORON ALARM* unless you get some trustworthy investors on board *OXYMORON ALARM*) and what sportive goals you set yourself as a club. Birmingham and Stoke are currently two good examples, and they represent a model Leicester City should strive for.
Mort Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Would promotion be a good thing tho? I've never bought into the argument that it isn't a good thing for a club to go up. Yeah, it can be too soon or the club can be ill prepared, but a well run, well managed club can negotiate all of that. You'll get clubs that go up and then go mad with spending on new players, wages etc... but you'll also have clubs that go up and try and use the opportunity to consolidate, that way if they go back down their well placed to challenge for promotion again and if they stay up they are better placed to push on from where they left off. If we did pull it off part of me would worry (not least with MM's Pompey involvement), but at the same time we'd be in a very good positon to strength the squad and compensate for the eventual loss of some of our older players... still it's a long way off, so need to worry just yet.
Jon the Hat Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Yeah, it can be too soon or the club can be ill prepared, but a well run, well managed club can negotiate all of that. But what about us???
Vlad The Impaler Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 I think the automatic spot will go down to the wire. I said we'd finish 2nd at the start of the season Having said that, i do think we'll end up in the play offs
