City's Shopping List

Flanimal speaks a lot of sense,

I think you're the first person who has ever said that on here. I feel like you should win a prize!

Guess what ? I still think he's ridiculously overrated.

Yeah we should definately be attracting the likes of Fernando Torres over wasters like Fryatt eh?

Posted

Some of those Fryatt appearances were a sub weren't they?

They are. I dunno the exact stats but he has come off the bench a fair few times both pre & post injury.

If he didn't get injured in February he would be up there with Nicky Maynard and Peter Whittingham in the scoring charts - I'm convinced of that.

i don't think he came on as a sub at all but i don't think he completed every game he played.

I've said this time and again but the amount of chances Fryatt misses is virtually irrelevant.

He's the only striker we've had this season who consistently gets into the right positions and makes the right runs. That's why he gets more chances (and therefore more goals) than anyone else, not because he's 'presented' with them.

Waghorn runs around a lot, but doesn't get as many chances because he's still learning where he needs to be at certain times and which runs to make.

This debate used to really irk me about Andy 'needs 8 chances to score' Cole. He still got 30+ a season, so who gives a shit? He's not superman.

No he wouldn't, not the way we play anyway. Unless you're going to consistently get the ball down and give it to their feet (which Leicester don't), that partnership simply wouldn't be effective.

Agree. We need someone who's a younger, more technically able version of Steve Howard to win the flick-ons and hold up the ball for Fryatt. Like it or not lads, we've already got a player like that in Kermorgant. I agree with you that CMS wouldn't be a good partner for Fryatt because of the way we play, it'd be a case of either or in my opinion, and Gallagher would probably be more than able to fill in for Fryatt if he was out.

While you are both quite correct in what you say, I find your assumption that we are never going to be anything but a longball team deeply depressing.

I suppose expecting City to spurn the 'hoof' and actually play some football is really asking a bit too much...

Why the resistance to avoiding the hoof.

The reason football is it's beautiful game is due to tactics, differing styles and formations. Having two robust sides playing 4-4-2 knock the ball around sideways is no more attractive than a counter attacking hoof ball (tbh regardless once confidence is built, the enjoyment and style is forthcoming).

It's like the media who have a resistance to praising a good defence in the same sense of praising a clever front pair.

City's best football this season has come on those few occasions that we have abandoned the long ball and attempted to play proper passing football. As recently as the game in Cardiff, our best period game in the 15-20 minutes either side of Kings goal, but sadly we could not keep it up.

I enjoy a hard fought scrap as much as anyone but a constant diet of 'hoof' can be a bit tedious. There is nothing wrong with the long ball as a variation, but if we are serious about promotion we need more.

Marbelladave, where was Wellens in that lineup?

If your looking for a RB. Then Seamus Coleman who is on loan at Blackpool from Everton looks like a youn great player, was impressed with him against Forest, but if they go up then I imagine they will try to get him. In my opinion I think we should look at a few fringe players of Premiership teams, I'm thinking Reo-Coker etc.

if anyone offers anything for neilson i think we should take it, he is apprently just like maicon in the scottish league though

For once probaby ever i 100% do not want us to sell Fryatt for any price.

You can understand cashing in on him after scoring all those League One goals when he was useless in the Championship previously but now he is too important to sell for any price.

Losing Fryatt and Waghorn would cripple our squad.

Gonna have to find 25 goals from other players. Hmm, Kermorgant, maybe? :sweating:

Fryatt is the only striker we have with good positioning sense and who has a bit of cunning in his play. What would we get for him? £3m, at the most? We're not going to get a better striker.

After our rumoured loan bid for him in January, Craig Mackail-Smith might be a possible arrival.

I like the look of Gary Hooper. Might be a good option with Scunnys need to sell to survive.

first half against coventry was amazing, superb football :scarf:

not sure what went wrong 2nd half :crylaugh:

Oh dear. Brace yourself for one surprising penalty.

Gary Hooper?

If so, a lot of clubs are seemingly after him and there's a big price tag on him. Remember Simon Cox? Similar saga will unfold in the summer, and I don't want Leicester to be anywhere near that mess. Reckon Nigel will just use the loan market effectively + make a few cheap but solid signings.

Well I clearly remember our two goals at Cardiff coming from lumps to Howards head. I certainly agree with the ability of mixing it up but there's a pattern that our best form came when...Howard was our point of attack.

In terms of football, always thought away at Sheff Yoo was a super performance which deserved more.

No chance i'm afraid. Already said he's prepared to sit out the remaining year left on his contract. If he were to move, it would be to another top flight team.

Doesn't ring a bell?
