Well has he gone then? Can this last few days in football get any worse?

England lose, Pearson leaves, all the backroom staff at Leicester leave... players?

Get any worse. ? It has for you. Dozey Dowie has thrown his cap into the ring. He's cheap. Talks the talk. Free agent so no compen payable. Very highly rated by those who know nowt about football. Loved by the media for his style and "Rentagob" quotes. Welcome your next manager.

From the local Hull rag

HULL City outlined ambitious plans for life in the Championship to tempt Nigel Pearson away from Leicester.

And that included committing to retaining a highly competitive squad – running on one of the Championship's biggest wage budgets of £15m.

Owner Russell Bartlett and head of football operations Adam Pearson consider the former Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough star to amongst the best managers outside of the Premier League.

And having learned of his growing frustrations at Leicester, they targeted the 46-year-old to lead a revival at the KC Stadium.

1x1.GIFThe Mail understands City's willingness to allow Pearson to bring his backroom team of Steve Walsh and Craig Shakespeare was a crucial part of the deal.

And, as revealed by the Mail yesterday, a pledge to find funds to allow their new manager to add some new faces was also a factor.

Pearson was yesterday completing negotiations which will see him finally confirmed as the new Tigers' boss later today.

A press conference is expected to be held tomorrow to officially announce his arrival.

His decision to quit the Foxes – a team he led out of League One and to a fifth place Championship finish last season – has shocked many.

But sources point to a frustrated manager who felt unsupported in the transfer market, and feared budget cuts both on playing staff and his backroom team.

According to sources in Leicester, the Tigers' approach came 'just at the right time', as Pearson was already feeling the time was right to move on.

His appointment ends a near two month spell without a boss at the KC – and comes just two days before players return to start their pre-season training.

City are thought to have agreed to paying compensation of around £350,000 to get their man in place.

But head of football operations Adam Pearson insists there has been plenty of interest in a role which remains 'highly attractive' to managers.

"Hull City is still a highly attractive job for many managers and I wouldn't say it has been difficult to sell the club at all," Pearson told the Mail.

"It is a great club which has always been tremendously supported, and Hull is a great city and a lovely place to live.

"People's perceptions of Hull change when they come and look around and see what it is like here."

Although City have lost two of last season's star players with Stephen Hunt and Steven Mouyokolo leaving for Wolves, Pearson stressed the Tigers will start next season with a 'strong squad' with 'significant Premier League experience'.

"Yes we have some work to do to get our playing budget where it should be, and we don't have a lot of money to spend," he said.

"But with one or two clever additions to the squad to add a bit of energy in certain areas we will have a squad that can compete strongly."

Club record signing Jimmy Bullard looks increasingly unlikely to feature when City kick-off their campaign under Nigel Pearson against Swansea on August 7.

Celtic continue to show interest, but City are seeking to cover the majority of his wages in any loan deal.

"We are planning for the season ahead now and leaving Jimmy to get on with what he wants to do," Adam Pearson told the Mail.

"If he wants to play Premier League or SPL football then so be it, but we have to plan ahead."

I wonder who Fulham's new manager will be? Had it not been for this Hull nonsense I'd have thought NP would have been very much in the frame for the Fulham job, which would have seemed like a more logical and progressive step for him.

Our manager Billy Reid is this morning being linked to the Leicester City hotseat, with the likelyhood that Nigel Peason departs for the Hull City post. From an Accies point of view I sicerely hope that it's all just paper talk, as he's managed to work wonders at our club, gaining the club promotion from Division 2 to the SPL in only a few seasons, and now we're entering our 3rd sucessive season in the top flight., achieving this feat with the smallest resources in the league. He has also helped maintain a great youth set-up at the club bringing through youngsters such as James McCarthy, who he gave his 1st team debut at the ripe old age of 15 and he's now went on to become a Premiership regular at Wigan Athletic. Again I hope this story is a load of b*ll*cks, but if true you will be getting an extremely good manager. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/2010/06/29/hamilton-academical-boss-billy-reid-in-frame-for-leicester-city-hotseat-86908-22368726/

Welcome to the forum :welcome:

You don't half sound like his agent! Have you got a CV you can attach :giggle:

Hull City may well be a smaller club than Leicester and the fact they have been relegated and have huge debts and high earners to clear, they are still an attractive challenge for managers out there. This is pretty much the same task Pearson is taking on as when he came to us and he has done a fantastic job with us, so in his eyes he won't be fazed or see it as a ludicrous decision,

In my opinion the fact we didn't go up last season is the biggest factor here. It was our biggest chance, riding high on the confidence of a previous promotion and not on the resources that we have. Our budget is evidently getting cut year on year and rightly so, without investment. Pearson perhaps thinks he's taken us as far as he can and with Mandaric being reknown as an impatient chairman, he could easily find himself sacked within the next 6 months and his stock fallen. But right now he is a manager in demand, so he's jumped. Taken a gamble, who knows if it will be the right decision or not.

I am a bit disappointed in him and it's easy to point the finger at Mandaric, but we don't know what has gone on here. Milan doesn't seem to have poked his nose in with Nigel as much as was claimed with other managers, but then Pearson has been a great success so a) why would he and b) there's no need for the stories to come out of such meddling.

It's now time to look to the future, Pearson leaving is a big blow. I liked the chap and no Leicester fan should under-estimate or take for granted exactly what he has done for us. We could quite easily still be in League One or even lower without him and the squad he has pieced together for less than a couple of million has given our fans an opportunity for the first time in about a decade of actually building some sort of rapport and association with our players. But we cannot let ourselves get too downbeat about Big Nige leaving either, that's his decision. I think he's made the wrong one, he was on the verge of building something with us and platforming his career as a manager but we can find someone else who can take over the mantle and complete this progression we have made.

The new man must'nt rip this squad and methods to pieces, we don't have the resources nor timescale to do that. But if they can build on what Nigel and his backroom staff have achieved, maybe with more emphasis on bringing through our own youth players who have had another superb season then there's no reason why we can't still push for a top 6 finish again this season. I'd like to see a set up that is more attacking if possible, but then every fan wants that and I actually think that for large periods of time our football under Pearson was very enjoyable to watch.

It churns my stomach to read names like Iain Dowie, but every time a club at a lower level requires a new man at the helm, the usual suspects get bandied about. Dowie scares me though as Milan has openly flirted with the pleb in years gone by and now he is very much available for us at the cheapest ever price............ FREE excluding wages. Horrifying. Lee Hoos played a massive part in getting Pearson the gig last time around and let's hope Mandaric has learnt to seek advice on managers before taking the plunge because we are in our best position as a club since he bought us and it would be criminal to allow all the hard work to be undone by another erractic appointment.

I don't know who i'd want in yet. I doubt it will be a manager from another club unless they are also in the latter part of their contract and could be secured for a pittance, but that would have to be at a lower level than us. I loved the work John Collins did at Hibs, loved him as a player too. But whether he'd get on with Mandaric is highly debatable as he's a big personality himself. Other managers out of work such as Southgate, Mowbray or Paul Jewell all come with question marks over their heads and it's easy to pick faults.

I thought the appointment of Pearson was a gamble and underwhelming, but we got that right so I pray for the same again.

Cheers for what you've done Nigel. I think you'll have your work cut out at Hull, but all the best.

Gutted. never saw this coming.

Back in the Shire - and caught BBC local news last night, could it be that the hull chairman (Adam Pearson) is some kind of relationship to NFP???

That would be the only plausible explanation.

I mean, leaving us for Hull....WTF....

I would take Sousa. Think he's a good manager and plays real football.

Go to a swansea forum and see what they think of him, you might change your mind.

Just because Sousa is foreign, fairly fit and was a quality player doesn't mean we should want him. He's done very weel at Swansea, but their lack of goals was outrageous and i'd be worried that's down to the style they play and not their lack of firepower. He was also very poor at QPR from what I recall.

Who has a season ticket at the Walkers? A holiday home I. Loughborough and has previously stated he'd kill for the job here?

Only bloody Kevin Keegan.

Possibly.

Very nice piece Rick, bit wordy for you, but pretty much on the money throughout...

All I would say is that I was not as impressed with the quality of our football as some, feeling that we were very predictable and over cautious.

That gives me some hope as I feel there is clearly room for improvement in our play without the necessity of wholesale changes to the squad.

This is why I have advocated going for more of a coach than a manager. A coach, such as Steve Clarke, would be accustomed to working with players he did not himself choose which I think would be good at this time.

He might also be prepared to leave our structure pretty much as it is as he takes time to ease himself into the management role.
