Brainy Posted 19 July 2010 Posted 19 July 2010 Edmund stop trying to fit in by pretending you have contacts. You're embarrasing yourself.
Bert Posted 19 July 2010 Posted 19 July 2010 Wow. I'd never seen that video before. All I can remember is a mercury report with dj saying that he'd not said those things, which is why I said what I said. If he's given another chance, and takes it, just get behind him. You don't have to like him as a person, just support him if and when he plays for us.
Alexikokopops Posted 19 July 2010 Posted 19 July 2010 I want DJ to both fail and succeed in the hope it will shut everyone up one way or another. Is that possible?
Milans Foxes Posted 19 July 2010 Posted 19 July 2010 He said he didn't want to go back to Leicester, this was a Leicester with a manager in charge who didn't like him and didn't pick him. (and allegedly made him train with the academy because he wouldn't leave for a lower wage- but thats just hearsay!) Can any of you see it was completely reasonable for the guy to say that at that point in time. Now we have a new manager who may have sat down with him and told him he is part of his first-team squad and Dj may well have said "thats great, if Blackpool can't afford my wages then I'll stick here for another season and bang a few goals in and worst case scenario I can leave at the end of the season". So why do some of you have a problem with this?? If someone comes in and offers him the same wage he's on now and a fee, then its up to Milan and Sousa to make a decision, but up until that time arises, ffs get behind the guy and support the team. Otherwise, if you're gonna boo him and not cheer his name when he's banging goals in, then do us all a favour and go and support Coventry or Forest, seriously. In addition, much of his bad form for us, being offside etc was due to the injuries that were plaguing his career at the time. (I seem to remember him having a serious pelvic injury for the longest period of time). Anyone who has played football knows if you're carrying an injury, you have to make the runs that split second earlier and you get flagged offside. And I don't remember him missing chances either. I do remember him scoring a fabulous header against Chelsea and I also saw him absolutely rip Forest apart at the end of last season! (maybe I'm just an optimistic fan who gets behind the team whatever the situation!!)
lcfc_jme Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 If DJ has learned how to stay onside, wants to knuckle down, work hard for the team, fit in and play for us, then keeping him would do us no harm. I fear, though, that keeping him is probably going to make him the scapegoat for everything that goes wrong with us this season: not signing players and not being able to bring in quality on loan because of his wages, him not repeating his Blackpool form becaus he plays a bit-part, him not out-scoring Fryatt, and us losing games that he either stays on the bench in or plays for 10 minutes with next-to-no service. Tough seasons ahead for him and Yann if they both stay on so it seems.

(maybe I'm just an optimistic fan who gets behind the team whatever the situation!!) Right, I'm putting this to bed now because I can't be bothered to argue about DJ anymore Firstly what right have you to tell anyone to "do you a favour and go support Coventry or Forest"? Are you a better fan than everyone else then? I've listened to a bloke insult my club, a team I've supported for many years and I don't like him. You're willing to forgive and forget on the basis that he MIGHT score some goals this season. You don't care that he quite clearly stated that he'd rather play for anyone else but Leicester, so why don't you go off and support Blackpool when he signs for them, because you clearly think that DJ is bigger and better than the club. In addition to him being injured, he did have that injury but while injured I saw him not really looking after himself, not making any efforts to gain full fitness and basically not caring because he was still taking home his pay check. You use the most lame excuse I've heard for DJ's really poor positional sense. You don't rememebr him missing any chances? What about when he came back into the side? What about when Pearson gave him his 2nd chance (which was actually his 4th or 5th chance) Do you not remember his misses against Orient? Or a miss against Palace when he was clean through? (maybe I'm just a fan who's not going to argue for arguements sake) 4 goals in around 40 games just shows that, by the law of averages, he's missed a few DJ is a good striker, I'm not going to deny that. If he has made his peace and is going to knuckle down and work hard then good luck to him, I hope he does because we will have a very good striker with us this season. I support my team through thick and thin, I support any player who wants to be here. If they don't want to be here then I don't want them, no matter how good everyone else thinks they are. If people want to call me stupid for believing what I read (actually heard, straight from the horses mouth) then let them. If people want to question my loyalty to the club because I don't want a player who doesn't want to be here, and hasn't wanted to be here for 3 years, then let them. I hope DJ does bang in the goals for us this season, I hope that while he does this, he does not upset the rest of the dressing room. I also hope that this time next year he turns round and sticks 2 fingers up to his new found fans and buggers off some where else. I will cheer every goal he scores this season for us, just like everyone else, but I will never like the bloke
Babylon Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Don't care wither way. If Pearson was still here then I'd say move him on, but it's a new manager and a new start again so who knows. Not sure why people are so irate about it all.
davieG Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 From the Merc DJ Campbell and Nicky Adams could be reborn as Leicester City players under new manager Paulo Sousa, according to coach Chris Powell. Both striker Campbell and midfielder Adams appeared to be on their way out of the club at the end of last season. But both impressed Sousa during City's recent pre-season tour of Slovenia. Campbell seemed destined to join Blackpool in the Premier League after helping them win the play-offs during his loan spell last season, but talks have broken down. Adams rejected a move to Brentford in a bid to impress Sousa. Campbell has been the pick of the City strikers in pre-season so far, scoring in both friendlies in Slovenia, while Adams is being tried as a possible future right-back. "DJ, being the character he is, came back from a successful loan spell and has been terrific," said Powell. "But all the forwards have been great, because they have all scored, which is great for them. Every striker wants to get up and running and get off to a goal-scoring start in pre-season. "Players who have been on the fringe or out on loan last season can see a possible chance under a new manager. "Perhaps Paulo is seeing things in players that maybe the previous managers haven't. It is an opportunity for everyone. "I think Nicky is trying to take on a new position to establish himself. It is a new beginning. He was close to moving on this summer but feels he will get a chance under the new manager and wants to give it his best shot. He has done that. "Primarily he is a midfielder but I think he sees it as a possible way into the team. "He is quality on the ball. We have always known that. "But, coming from a deeper position, he has to see the picture differently. "He has to be more disciplined as a full-back and you have to defend one versus one quite a lot. It is a new position for him. I have helped him and he has been very responsive. Whether it is a long-term thing we will have to wait and see. "There is a big difference between playing in training and friendly games to playing in the Championship against an established left winger." City will take a full-strength squad to the Don Valley Stadium tonight to face Rotherham United, and Powell said everyone was looking forward to it. "We have four games now where we really have to iron out the teething problems which naturally occur when teams play a different way," he said. "We have to hit the ground running when we play these teams, starting with Rotherham. "We have three weeks to sharpen ourselves up. "It is good to be back home and we feel the countdown has started now. "Our fans will be turning up for games now and it will be good to see them. "They will want to see this new Leicester side in action and I hope they will be pleased with what they see. "We still have time on the training field and, hopefully, we will perform in those games and get confidence up, for players and fans alike. Bring on the new season."
Criggers Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 If Kennedy is as good going forward as I have heard and we have Adams bombing forward on the right, it's quite exciting. Back on topic, I would be surprised if nobody else on this board has worked in a job they hated, a new manager comes along and things change. I know I certainly have. And, along with that I started to get along with people I didn't before because circumstances were completely different. Why would this not apply to Campbell? Just face it, we're stuck with him for this year unless we get a silly money offer. Sousa obviously likes him or is at least giving him a chance and if he doesn't leave in this transfer window he'll be going for nothing anyway. For all we know he might be offered a new contract by January. If the guy is giving it a fair crack I really couldn't give two flying shits what happened in the past. Neither does Chris Powell by looks of it.
adversus_diaboli Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 I'd sell him to the glue factory. Bloke is a waste of space in my humble opinion. His lack of effort is what irks me the most. If he at least tried I don't think I'd hate him so much .
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 I think we all need DJ to come out and say either way whether he still wants to go or stay and give it a go here. If he said, 'I still think it would be best for me to go, and I'm looking to do so', I wouldt be disappointed, and at least he was being honest. If he said, 'I've tried to impress the new gaffer and want to stay here and prove my worth', I'd accept that and would be willing to give him another chance. Personally, I hope hesays the second option. We need this sorted out soon though.

rico Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Can't believe Blackpool would be willing to pay £1mil for Rob Hulse but not D.J. ! Story was in yesterdays Mirror
Bellend Sebastian Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 I can see you are undecided about dj.You could have least finished with "hang the dj" by the Smiths! Burn down the disco! Hang the blessed DJ! This was construed as being racist in some quarters at the time. Daft bastards
Bert Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 The reason why blackpool will pay 1m for hulse, but not for Dj, is because before they went up we quoted them a price for Dj, but now they've gone up we want more. Are blackpool really going to pay more for Dj when they know they could have him for cheaper?
Alf Bentley Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 2nd chance?? Really?? DJ has never been bothered about playing for Leicester since Allen, the man who signed him, left. Megson came in, he was still gash Holloway came in, he was still gash Pearson came in, he had the same chance as everyone else to impress, but he didn't take it. Lets not forget that at the time Fryatt was half the player he is today. Pearson sent him out on loan, DJ uttered the words "I don't want to go back to Leicester though. Anything but that" His general attitude stinks, he's all about himself. I can't believe people would defend him. Let's not forget that he himself scuppered a move to Blackpool not so long ago because he wouldn't accept their wage package. When they got promoted, and he knew more money was there in a higher division, he had the cheek to come out and say that he hoped Leicester did nothing to ruin the move for him. And on the subject of "his goals may get us promoted" What happens if he disrupts the dressing room and the team starts to under perform? What's better 20 goals alone from DJ or 15 from Fryatt, 10 from King and 5 from Dyer? I'd sell now, he's not worth any more risk. Put it behind us, grumble because if he goes to anyone else in this division it's a certain fact that he will score against us, but then we can forget about it. Good post, Jimbo. Sums it up well. Also, I disagree with the idea that "nothing matters, so long as he scores goals for Leicester" (which he hasn't, of course). I'm sure that I'm not the only one who'd struggle to applaud someone who has repeatedly expressed utter contempt for us, even if he turns into a football genius. I think a lot of people will feel very uneasy if he's back in blue without a major apology - and that could affect the crowd mood and club mood. Campbell DID say that he didn't want to go back to Leicester, "anything but that", as the video posting proves. A few months later, he grudgingly - and falsely - tried to deny this. Having learned nothing, he was recently quoted by Sky and the Mercury calling on LCFC not to do anything silly to jeopardise his move to his beloved Premiership wage packet, er, sorry, I mean "his beloved Blackpool" (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11728_6172225,00.html). I've not heard him deny those comments - or apologise for the earlier ones. I mean, if Adolf Hitler, Margaret Thatcher and the Yorkshire Ripper were talented footballers, would you feel happy applauding them in LCFC shirts? Granted, DJ is not a mass murderer, but his personal standards are clearly very low - and I'm not naive; I know it's just a business and a career to many footballers, some of whom probably secretly despise their club's fans, but have the sense not to show it. Unless DJ can give a full and honest apology to the club and its fans, I wouldn't want him here. Better cut our losses early. Give Blackpool a "take it or leave it" low offer (£700k?)...and no harm if that becomes public knowledge to attract other interest. If no interest is forthcoming - and no fulsome apology is forthcoming - then ship him out on loan. Otherwise, I can see this being dragged out like a poker hand between City and Blackpool until he goes cut price on 31st August and there are no decent signings left to use the fee on. (Here's some interesting comment from a Blackpool site: http://fansonline.net/blackpool/mb/view.php?id=426171 Oh, and the comment about him calling himself DJ is right; "Dudley Junior" wouldn't be seen as half as cool by some people....in fact, I might insist that all my work contacts call me "Cool Dude" from now on! DJ OUT!
Yojoe36 Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 He scored a hat-trick against forest. For that HE STAYS!!!! Only if he wants to.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 I'm sure that I'm not the only one who'd struggle to applaud someone who has repeatedly expressed utter contempt for us Yes, I think the players should really keep their contempt for us to themselves
milan_foxes Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 He scored a hat-trick against forest. For that HE STAYS!!!! Only if he wants to. Your not very clever are you.
Narborough_fox Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Another reason Blackpool will pay 1m for Hulse and not DJ is wage.
Bugg Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 I think Hulse will be on a fairly high wage actually, but I'm not too sure.
Narborough_fox Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 I think Hulse will be on a fairly high wage actually, but I'm not too sure. Not 17k though (that is what Deej is on isn't it).
Bugg Posted 20 July 2010 Posted 20 July 2010 Well, according to wikipedia, he is on about £600,000 a year which works out at about 12k a week, so yeah it is less but not a lot.
